  1. OK well before this thread is closed I will just rush in with a quick review of Piggy's.

I tried the cheaper fish (not the cod) and chips plus an icy Heineken. The fish was moist and flaky and not a single bone to be found. No complaints there at all. I like the batter thicker and crunchier but I can live without.

The chips were hot but a bit soggy - but still nicer than most chips you get in Thailand -> Mike's Burgers chips are better. There was tartare sauce of sorts which certainly gets them a tick. Normally this has capers (grey/green bits) but this sauce had orange bits so I'm not sure about the deal there. Anyway certainly palatable. Staff friendly/welcoming.

Verdict=Would go again for the fish

My god this thread is still going??? hahaha just wanted to say that the chips in piggy's are the best ive had anywhere! so i dont know how anyone can say mikes are better as he sells french fries.

piggy's is the best in my opinion but everyone likes different tastes!

I wonder how much longer this thread will run!

what's next? the best ice cream shop please hehehe :D:D:)

  2. I just got back from eating at piggy's , well the food was great ! tasted good like back home! i eat all the chips and was very full. the bottle of spy i had was ice cold and i had a great chat with the lady owner who is full of smiles. all in all a great little shop.

i will be going back soon. a good meal with a spy under 200 baht!

and as another person said, the kitchen is spotless which is always a bonus!

we need more happy places like this in chiangmai ! A1 :)

  3. Can anyone tell me where I can buy fireworks in CM?

    Thanks

In the Warrorot market. Inside the large covered market area on the right as you turn at 7-11 towards the Tapae Rd. There is a little section with half a dozen stalls.

Yes the chinese market is the best! don't be smoking a fag when you go in though hahahaha :)

  4. I say; good luck to them.

If all someone has to do is sit somewhere on the street looking down on they’re luck and idiots give them money, I can see nothing wrong with that.

The so-called beggar makes a living and the idiot feels good believing he/she has done a good deed. So everyone’s happy all round.

The thing is these people are sometimes also drug users so by saying good luck and supporting begging your also supporting many other crimes!

people need to look deeper in to things sometimes!

  5. After a relatively good night out with the g/f, I got the bill. That was checked by me and all was in order. I counted the bottles to make sure, as we know mistakes happen. Bill was 665 Baht.

Yet, when the man brought the change back and I took the 200 Baht off the folder and left the 35 Baht tip, I suddenly realised I was 100 short. But he had wandered off quickly.

The g/f soon rectified that by talking to the man in question who brought the 100 back with no questions asked. He KNEW what he had done.

On the way out, the Boss was sat there. The g/f knows him from before and had a word.

Will anything happen? I doubt it. After all, what is 100 Baht. But, the male staff member knew what he had done. And I will make sure, in future, I do not tip any of the male staff while he is still working there. If the other male staff give me any quizzical looks, I will explain it to them. Never had a problem in 3 years with the other staff.

It is not the 100 Baht, but the principle.

A similar thing happened at the Pimarn Hotel over a year ago. The lady took 1,000 Baht off me for a 450 Bhat bill and gave me change for 500. I know it was 1,000 I handed over for the bill because I had been to the bank earlier and the ATM gave 1,000 baht notes. I had no 500's. Yet the cashier counted the receipts and the till money to find nothing amiss. (Of course not). The money was pocketed.

I defected from the Pimarn for 6 weeks and was asked back loads of times. But while she was still working there, I refused to go.

Both thought I was drunk. Foolish them :D

As I said, it is not the amount of money, but the principle of it. If they are (or one is) going to rob me of 100 Baht or more and get away with it, what are they going to do to others, Thai or Farang. Also, I tip every time I go. And it galls me to think one would thieve and put tips for the others in jeapordy.

Always check your change when paying with a 1000 baht in 7/11 too they have tried it on with me many times. i might be a girl but im not an idiot!

    :)
