  1. I have a problem with Android OS. The flow, feel and overal user friendliness.

I tested it on Glaxy Tab and compared to iOS (that Im indeed spoiled by) on my iPhone, Android imo is not even half way there yet. Defienetly not on slates.

Im no Apple fanboy. Definetly not with jailbroken iPhone and all the problems and bullshit that go with it. But the Galaxy was jerky, choppy, bugy, chaotic experience.

  2. Im not sure where in Thailand you actually are (HuaHin ?). But in Bangkok your best bet is probably to go to PanTip or MBK shoping malls and find a mobile\electronincs repair shops there.

In PanTip they are all in one of the top floors (4th ?) and I think they are more hardcore fixers - dealing even with things that look really broken.

In MBK some of the cells sellers are fixing\'tuning' them too.

They might (want to) help you or not :)

Hope it helped you a little. Good luck.

  3. You can buy Ipads at many stores in MBK at around $500 USA
Last time I checked every grinning darky with golden teeth there was asking about 100 USD more for any model then is its price on Apple store or eBay. :\

I was luckier with my iPhone 3GS from MBK, but I got it well past the launch madness, only about 2000 B cheaper then eBay, without warranty of course, and after like an hour of bargaining with 2 'sellers' there.

Apple USA will not ship to 4th world countrie
God, they still do it, right? Apple.
  4. I dont know the current price, but last time I checked the "original" iPads in Bkk (sold by non official shops only of course) were more expensive then if you bought them from Apple directly or from eBay. All models. (Probably because of high demand - low supply in Thailand\Asia)

So I humbly sugest buying them elsewhere. (Possibly in your country)

PanTip and MBK had them both though.

Also electronics overaly are IMO very expensive in Thailand. Especialy considering low quality of non-branded products and no guarantee being granted by most shops (despite what they promisse you or not :). I was surprised that everything that I had to buy in Tailand was worse quality, but same or worse price then in europe.

    (Sorry for sligh off-topic)

  5. Chances are if you give it to a shop it'll end up with the geeks anyway, only the shop takes a cut.

Just for record: Dont count on that ! I have seen a thai idiot trying to pry-open a tightened phone case with ridiculous-size screwdriver until he chipped piece of the plastic (and didnt open it anyway:). Remember, this is thailand.

@Phatcharanan - so did you try to repair it ?

  6. What they'll basicaly do in the shop is open the phone, possibly take it apart, dry it with a hairdryer, put it together, try if it works .. (charge you 100-200 B for this afaik)

If it wount, they'll try to change battery and keyboard (charging you much more for parts and all)

You can do part one yourself at home if you want and if you'll find out how to dimantle the phone non-destructively. (I didnt manage that with my iRiver mp3)

A good advice from my friend: when you'll go to repair shop, prefer guys who look like geeks. (long hair, long beards, thick glasses, ..) Bigger chance there they'll know what they doin ;)

    Good luck

  7. I believe its another Apple marketing campaign, to remind the world that there's (overpriced, buggy, under-featured) cell phone from Apple they should run and buy. Nothing more.

For most of us with 'old' iPhones its just bunch of very minor updates that wouldnt normaly stand for major release.

-still no multitasking. Dont get fooled by Apple calling the thing they implemented multitasking. It isnt. (If you understand the technical side of iOS\iPh, you know what I mean).

-wallpaper for desktop .. which is a joke, since everybody who wanted it already have it for 3 years thanks to jailbreak community (and with more features too!)

-folders .. same as above. Should have been there 2 years ago. Implementing them now with big fanfares is just sad.

-iBooks. Wow! .. Exept we already have like 10 apps for that on appstore ..and possibly more from Cydia

-minor update to Mail app. Normaly not work mentioning, but they have to keep talking about it because theres not really anything else there :(

-probably not fixing the many different issues different iPhone generations still have (GPS not working?,Wifi have no reception?..)

-most likety (as many times before) breaking more things in the process !

-..and instead of fixing things they are wasting time on trying to prevent jailbreaking people from doing so, because .. well Because.

For iPhone 4 theres more stuff. The whole iOS 4 is made for iPhone 4, nothing much else

-Facetime - really usable maybe after 3 years from now

-gyroscope support - what for ? ask I as iPhone software developer. You were out of ideas Steve ?

-necessary framework for making the old apps work on new iPh 4 resolution - while most likely making them work even slower on all the devices

Generaly dont install it if you dont have to - ie if its not fixing some issue for you or until everybody migrate theyr apps to it.

Dont fall for another Apple hype.

Also dont buy iPhone4 if you alrady have iPhone. It doesnt really do anything marvelous worth spending the more money, dispite fanboys and Apple screaming about it 24/7.

Do you want the next best toy ? Buy Nintendo 3DS or one of the 3d notebooks.

    ----

Im early adopter iPhone user and registered iPhone soft. developer for 3+ years now. Using iPhone 3GS (..with badly working, still unfixed, GPS and Wifi)

Im not iPhone hater - I still love it, but Im trying to stay reasonable facing the bullshit shower from Apple again and yes, after few years with Apple product and being Apple developer, I am an Apple hater actually.

  8. it would be best to dress conservatively & neatly ......... it worked and I got my first ever extn.

    This was on Koh Samui.

It's taken as a sign of respect, no matter what you think.

I have seen well dressed people being denied a visa for no reason. Didn't matter at all if they had a suit on or not.

The fact that you are dressing your way and have personal positive experience doesnt imply anything. No matter what you think or expect or being told. :)

(Of course I try to dress nicely when I go to any gov office, and I try to behave respectfuly. In any country. But I wouldnt be so foolish to derive a result from that. Especialy not in (SE) asia.)

  9. its on 3g network for sure

max speed is about 3.1 mbps

u can use it almost everywhere in Thailand (if u can get reception on ur cellphone u will be able to use the internet device

    Wrong again.

    1. CAD is NOT on 3G network! It is CDMA standard = whole different system, frequencvies etc. NOT COMPATIBLE with 3G!

    2. You will never get 3mbps speed. Mostly not even 1mbsp. For speed tests for different Thailand locations search this forum.

  10. ..

u can use it in most of the places in Thailand(if ur cellphone has reception so does the internet device)
Not true. CAD doesnt by far have the coverage the cell operators have.

Now it would be your turn to provide evidence for that if you want to state that.

    "not including Bangkok"

Exactly. Thats a huge down, for the money they want for theyr services imo.

"..but according to CAT they will pretty soon be able to offer service in Bangkok area"

Sorry but .. ROFL! You are 9 years in Thailand ? I have heard this maybe 3 years ago and they still didnt do s**t about it :D You should really know better.

"..as well because they have bought up or Hutch joined them or something."

Nobody joined nobody. Again: They are bullshiting you :D

now, tell me what part of the information that i've given is untrue or misleading?
    Um, all ? :)
  11. I've lived 9 years in Thailand, so? what does that to do with the matter?
I written it all there. How can you be so naive ? It looks like some guy at CAD told you the info you stated above and you just believed it without any research or testing and just dumped it here, possibly misleading more people.

Hard to believe those 9 years. It loosk like you have no idea about how things work in thailand or how broken they all are, that is.

when u buy cat cdma from CAT they give u 12 months warranty
(omg) No, they give you theyr word on that :) And its mostly worthless. Did you actually try to fix some problem with them ? Or any thai company\person that sold you something (even with "waranty") ? Guess not :D
maximum speed that u can archive with the device is 3.1 mbps
Ah, right. With the device :D. I can agree with that.

But certainly you will never get that speed with CAD.

Check speed tests in other treads in this forum for more factual evidence (you request).

  12. 11 months warranty from CAT

    no

the maximal speed that u can get is 3.1 mbps

    no

u can use it anywhere in thailand

    no

bangkok .. u'll pretty soon be able to, according to CAT

    lol !

Im sorry but how long are you in Thailand to be so naive ?

Or are you a CAD salesman ? The included contacts kind of point to that.

Anyway ALL information given by your are untrue and misleading.

  13. There is no 3G coverage in ChiangMai.

(Basicaly 3G is only available in Bangkok and only on a few specific spots.)

Anyway iPhone 3G can be used even without 3g coverage of course.

(I hope this is not the king of 'girfriend' that misteriously fell in love with you forever after you met in a thai bar (where she works) and needs some money from time to time to fix family problems. = payd companion fooling stupid foreigners :))

  14. Im european, iPhone user since 2008, but wanted to get the new one with GPS (and 32gb).

Got myself White 3GS 32bg at MBK for 25 500 Bt (after some usual bargaining with guys at the stalls).

No passport, no work permits, not having to get married in Th to steal my wifes ID, no cavity searches .. :D

Guess you US guys always have to do it the hard way (joking :))

+Im registered at both US and Czech AppStore. Just in case.

  15. Just bought iPh 3gs with GPS in Bangkok. Works fine for me. Using DTAC GSM.

    What GPS soft r u using ? Or just a GoogleMaps ?

I think I have read that also other people are having trouble with iPh GPS going totaly wrong. Cant remeber where I seen it though, sorry.

    Might be worth googling though.
