Having said all that, stevie H you've got to be a muck raker to go through one guys posting history, however short if you're just a drinker there

Sounds a bit like you're a bit too involved in trying to do down MY pub. Are you sure you just drink there?

Thanks for reposting the plug about my liver and bacon though! It is very popular!

not a muckraker by any stretch, i'm a communications professional who spent long enough in pr and marketing to recognise an attempt at a structured campaign when i see one.

got no problem with your establishment at all millwall_fan, i don't criticise or denigrate anybody's business (and of course livelihood) on this forum, it's small time and peevish. i did though get pissed off at what were clearly direct attacks on tuskers bar.

and i can't stand liver as it goes. foul stuff.

Tusker's has had a quiz night, and the un-Irish Pub, and another place I forget, near Adam's Appn.

The other place is Garden Bar at Lotus Hotel on Viangbua Road, as already mentioned by other posters. I think their monthly quiz is tonight.

The biggest giveaway is that they openly discuss their adventures trolling at Thai Visa - usually in private rooms like Bedlam. If you have enough posts, you can read about all kinds of nasty stuff. :)

Sorry you've lost me. Ulysses

Other forum, bedlam? Can you share with us publicly or by pm or at least give us a clue.

There does seem to be a lot of activity on this and the Marios forum by the same posters.

Sorry, but it is against the rules to point out a particular forum that purposely works at spoiling this one, but I'm sure that someone will clue you in.

Bedlam is a private forum in Thai Visa that you need 500 posts to view. At one time, it was supposed to be less moderated than the normal forums, but I get suspended almost every time I go in there, so I purposely avoid it. :)

We all agreed to abide by the rules when we signed up, even rule no.21

21) Not to discuss moderation publicly in the open forum; this includes individual actions, and specific or general policies and issues. You may send a PM to a moderator to discuss individual actions or email support (at) thaivisa.com to discuss moderation policy.

What happened to the topic about quiz nights ?

There are some forums that actively promote hate, libel and slander in the name of "free speech", but hide or change anything critical of that forum - in other words, they are hypocrites.

At least Thai Visa is trying to do the right thing and actually pays attention to laws that protect everyone from lies and defamation by twisted Internet sickos.

The reason why Thai Visa has so many advertisers is because they are professional and popular and businesses want to be associated with them. Almost no one wants to be associated with scumbag websites with no worthwhile supervision. The funny thing is that they can not figure out why they do not get any advertisers. :)

I think it was concluded.. :) We got a great overview of the places that have quizzes and when they're held, the way they're organized, etc. Nothing much else to do but banter now. :D

Without knowing which odd-ball website(s) you speak of it's hard to comment. And I don't visit a forum for the advertizers but for the people and their opinions.. In fact I don't see any advertising on any website anywhere. Courtesy of Firefox and AdBlock Plus; I don't even see the logo. (Made a point including that as it now includes the name of a newspaper I really despise. (Not even sure if I'm allowed to say THAT but it isn't in the rules so I guess I'm clear)

Almost no one visits websites for their advertisers, but advertisers make it possible for the websites to operate and even throw free parties every once in a while.

No money no honey - I'm sure that you are a familiar with the expression. :)

Well, commercialism was not among my reasons for moving to Thailand. And indeed I don't plan to visit the party. I looked at the listing though.. Hundreds of people! Compare that to just a couple handfulls who post here on a regular basis.

EDIT: Nothing to do with Thaivisa though; 'large congregations of Farangs' were also not among my reasons for moving to Thailand :D I don't even like bars/pubs owned by Farangs. (with just one notable exception but I don't want to turn this into a pub-topic. .... oh wait.. :) ).

All I can tell you stevie H is that it had nothing to do with me or The Olde Bell. I don't rubbish other bars.

why would any business owner be 'concerned' that a competitor is allowed to pay for advertising? this is the nature of competition. you pays your money and you get certain business benefits from it. and i don't see why you should have any beef with thaivisa since without sponsors who pay good money to promote their businesses, the forum would not exist.

you last line appears to contradict your first in that post by the way.

I have no objection to people paying for ADVERTISING. That, as you say is the nature of competition. It is the way that the payment buys positive forum content that is wrong. It is misleading to members and leads one to the impression that sponsors establishments are the only ones with any events or happenings that Thaivisa members may be interested in.

Had a fun morning at the Expats club on Saturday morning, It was the first time I'd been for over a year and they had a quiz put together by Pedder from The Olde Bell Pub in town, My team didn't win, but it was a pleasant way to spend a morning. Thanks to all concerned.

I am closing this thread in line with this forum's policy on using the forum to promote one's business. Please read the forum rules again before posting as we do tend to take a hard line on serial spammers.

Further such posts will result in more formal action than just thread closure.
