Too True

Its called manipulating religion to your own ends.

Yes, indeed. But this does not give us the right to insult their religion. Do you agree?

Yet you are quite happy to insult their religion by saying that it's attitude towards women is wrong.

After all the above, I thought that my opinions should be clear by now. But apparently it doesn't seem so. First you must have noticed that the moderator wanted to make an end to this debate (post 54). However since you re-opened it by targeting my post directly, I feel that I have the right to respond.

The poster above referred to the "manipulation" of religion to satisfy own needs. If we agree about the definition of "manipulation", which is "to tamper with or falsify", you can see that my agreement with him was on the fact that indeed Islam is been manipulated by some men in the Muslim world to deprive women of their rights. Below is shortened list of women rights according to the Islamic law (I can provide you with references from the Koran if you wish), so that you can conclude by yourself how many of them are really granted for women in these countries:

1. The right and duty to obtain education.

2. The right to have their own independent property.

3. The right to work to earn money if they need it or want it.

4. Equality of reward for equal deeds.

5. The right to express their opinion and be heard.

6. The right to provisions from the husband for all her needs and more.

7. The right to negotiate marriage terms of her choice.

8. The right to obtain divorce from her husband, even on the grounds that she simply can't stand him. (pls note that God deeply frowns upon divorce as a solution unless there is hardly any other alternative but it does not mean that men have more right to divorce their wives than women do.)

9. The right to keep all her own money (she is not responsible to maintain any relations).

10. The right to get sexual satisfaction from her husband.

11. Custody of their children after divorce.

12. To refuse any marriage that does not please them

And more...

As with any religion, it is a question of interpreting what is written. You obviously believe Mulims are interpreting the Koran incorrectly. Clearly they do not. Do you deny that you would upset many Muslims by telling them that there beliefs as to the treatment of women are wrong and that they have manipulated their religion to treat women in that way? There is no doubt you would. Therefore I guess you must be saying that it is ok to insult Muslims so long as the insult relates to an aspect of their existence that you, personally, don't like. So what makes you any better than any of the other posters who have made any negative comments towards Muslims?
