busdweller Posted October 23, 2012 Share Posted October 23, 2012 Lai Thai is still trading as normal, I am currently staying here and was here before & durring the time Indian guy checked in on the 14th (and rudely bumped me over in the courtyard) & durring the time of Duangdeun;s (Jae Oi) horrendous murder... Guests will keep comming to stay as it is not in the National Media, & none of the guest who were present durring this time were evan made aware of what had happened. On the first night we were all very scared, plenty of Uniformed Police, Forensics Team & Media arrived whilst we were having dinner. The staff, reception evan the Police would not tell us what had happened. I learnt about this via Chiang Mai Local Newspaper online, & here on the Chiang Mai forum on the 19th/20th. It wasnt until the 19th that a Thai tour operator told us briefly what had happened. The Police havent approached any of the guests for whitness statements if there are any, and the only guests that left on the night of the 18th/19th are the one's that were in the same wing of the hotel which was a tour group. The Guesthouse staff have not talked to us about it, and of course most tourists have moved on, but there is a small group of people still here who were present. We are all praying for Jae Oi's family, I have been to temple to pray & lay offerings, & it is our hopes this bastard is caught.. Being the same age of Jae Oi & a Mother, this saddens me very much, I hope her children are well supported & her family finds the strength to endure. The murder was 8 days ago now and today is the firsit I have seen about specific nationality and maybe a name. As this was a guest house, the individual was required to show passport, point of entry into the country was to be noted as well as Tm card number. This info should have been available to the police immediately on arrival. I would have thought that the APB would have been out to all concerned within a matter of hours in the least. Police arrived at the scene with a rescue team and autopsy officers from Maharaj Nakorn Chaing Mai Hospital, where they found the naked body of a woman covered in blood on the bed, with a pillow over her face. Just been advised by one of the bar staff that the BIB will go through the role playing scenario at 10.00am tomorrow and have invited some staff and family to attend. Two sisters attended the funeral (one flew in from Germany and I think has gone now) the other as luck would have it has a BIB husband. One cannot but wonder that if the guest house (and its not a small operation) had done the usual/required checks at reception that this guy would not have done what he did, where he did (or alternatively he would have just found some other place I guess). Guess all we may have had is another girl/lady at another guesthouse I hope the guest house (and guest houses in general) tidy up their act a bit now and properly register patrons and their occasional "guest" or "joiner" at the desk. Goes a long way to protecting both parties. One cannot imagine the heightened anguish and anger of family and friends when they are at these role playing re-enactments. Hopefully apart from acknowledging the tragic loss it has a cathartic experience as well. The death penalty is too good for some people. . It makes me want to punch them in the face really hard, especially in situations where people have died. They have no respect for anyone or anything other than money.
