Thailands Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra attends the 11th ASEAN-India Summit as part of the 23rd ASEAN Summit and Related Summits at the International Convention Center, in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam, 10 October 2013.

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has invited Japan Inc to take part in Thailand's Bt2-trillion transportation development project.

She also proposed to Myanmar to jointly develop a "trilateral highway", creating land bridges between India, Myanmar and Thailand.

She discussed these issues during bilateral talks with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Myanmar President Thein Sein on the sidelines of the 23rd Asean Summit in Brunei, PM Office's spokesman Teerat Ratanasevi said yesterday.

She briefed Abe on the progress of the mega-infrastructure project. She also asked his government and Japan's private sector to join the project.

Teerat said Abe was interested in having state agencies and the private sector become involved. Japan is not only keen to help roll out the high-speed train network but also to provide consulting services on train operations and ticketing systems.

Abe expressed sympathy over the flood situation in Thailand and asked the Yingluck government to take special care of Japanese factories.

Yingluck told Thein Sein that Thailand was ready to help Myanmar in achieving its reform agenda and to collaborate in trade and the development of the Dawei special economic zone.

The two leaders discussed the problem of smuggling across their borders, which cost the countries in lost tax collections.

Thailand was also eager to work with Myanmar on the implementation of the National Single Window, an electronic system ensuring secured and efficient electronic exchange of trade-related documents through a single point of entry.

The 23rd Asean Summit ended yesterday in Bandar Seri Begawan. In a statement, it was revealed that the grouping grew 5.7 per cent last year, was able to maintain its level of Foreign Direct Investment inflows at US$108.2 billion and recorded $2.47 trillion in total merchandise trade.

The leaders were also of the view that against the backdrop of weaker global growth, regional growth is expected to moderate in the immediate term. Nonetheless, in the longer term, economic activities in the region are expected to remain robust.

A number of measures - 279, or 79.7 per cent - of the AEC Blueprint have been implemented, encouraging the leaders that the regional integration would be completed by 2015, which would enhance Asean's competitiveness and continue deepening and broadening the regional economic integration.

To spur infrastructure development in the region, Asean also looked forward to the commencement of the Asean Infrastructure Fund's (AIF) lending operations this year. "We believe that AIF is an integral component of Asean's efforts to strengthen regional physical connectivity, and narrow the infrastructure development gaps in Asean."

Politicans, beggars, bar girls,and/or piano player in a whore house. Old Harry T. had the sense to know which was more respectable of the first and the latter. The PM seems to be deciding which of the first 3 occupations she is really capable of carrying out.

It can sometimes be almost impossible to find a good fit for the individual who has no experience, knowledge, nor understanding of the countries need, when the short list is comprised of incompentants.

23rd ASEAN Summit ends on a good note

23.jpg

BANGKOK, 11 October 2013 (NNT) - The 23rd ASEAN Summit, held in Brunei Darussalam, gave Prime Minister and Defenses Minister Yingluck Shinawatra opportunities to meet with leaders from different countries. Some highlights include Japan’s wishes to invest in Thailand’s infrastructure and Myanmar’s intentions in pushing forward the Dawei Deep Seaport project with Thailand.

According to the updates by government spokesman Teerat Ratanasevi, Myanmar’s President, Thein Sein, has agreed on opening borders with Thailand to boost trade and add more convenience in traveling between the two countries - with Myawaddy and Tachileik being the focus for development.

The Prime Minister has also urged Myanmar’s president to take into account the great importance of the Dawei Deep Seaport, which will eventually link East Asia together as one. Both sides agreed there should also be additional foreign investors in the project. Further talks on the development of a road to connect India, Myanmar and Thailand will continue when both countries meet with India in the next ASEAN +3 meeting.

Ms. Yingluck also met with Japan’s Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, to discuss the progress of his country’s investment in the 2 trillion baht mega project. Mr. Abe replied with enthusiasm. As Japan’s Shinkansen’s bullet train had never had an accident in over 50 years, Mr. Abe said that Japan would be happy to assist in giving consultations in organizing the project's basic infrastructure and related systems.

The Premier’s meeting with UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, was also noteworthy; as Thailand was praised for its successful implementation of its 30 baht healthcare scheme. Mr. Ban also expressed his hope that Thailand would share its accomplishment with other countries.

ASEAN promotes cooperation among Asian countries in trade and projects.
Japan is the most expensive country with the largest debt.
Thailand wants to work with a country where salaries and costs are highest.
Beginning Thailand'll just borrow 3 instead of 2 trillion.

Japanese transport system is the finest and most expensive in the world. but Thailand needs a good base with a long life.
The floods are not only the problem of climate change, but especially under-invest in a functioning sewage system.

The corruption would address can produce a lot of money but that topic is avoided.
So Thailand will be over 30 years still a country with much problems.

Maybe Azerbadjan can help wth the watermanagement, because they have got never problems with waterblink.png and have a lot experience with corruptionbiggrin.png

Not too sure about the Japanese being involved in the construction process of the propose high speed rail links.

The use of foreign labour in the last Japanese railway building venture in Thailand could hardly be described as ''ethical.''

Two members of my family whose names I know and whose memories are respected by me each year but who I never met died as a result of their ''employment'' on that particular scheme..

When one considers the track record( no pun intended) of the actual management and progress of that project it left much to be desired , vandalism by freedom fighters and enemy action etc etc. .

No, the Japanese should not be considered for the funding of nor the construction of the rail way in my view.

There it is again, Yingluck is again linking the 2.2 trillion baht loan with Thaksins investment vehicle The Dawei project. What idiot apart from Thaksin would invest billions of baht on developing infrastructure in another country with an unstable government and where you have limited control?

Certainly not Japan.......

Efforts by the Thai government to attract Japanese investment in a port-industrial complex at Dawei on Burma’s southeast coast are doomed, a prominent regional economist said.

“I don’t think the Japanese are at all interested in Dawei. To the extent their name keeps cropping up, I expect it reflects the desire of the zone’s promoters, now essentially the Thai government, to have them involved,” Sean Turnell a professor in economics. http://www.irrawaddy.org/business/japan-interest-dawei-industrial-zone-seen-unlikely.html

From his meeting in October 2010 to discuss, amongst other things, the signing of the joint development treaty of Dawei Port. The agreement was signed the following week.

The development package is believed to have been given a final push by the October visit to Burma by Thailand’s Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, whose pro-democracy principles appear to have been replaced by economic pragmatism, say some Thai commentators.

Despite continuing blocks on land trade due to border closures around Mae Sot by the Burmese junta, Abhisit has instructed Thailand’s commerce ministry to hotly pursue two-way trade, said the Bangkok Post.

“Thailand is finding it more difficult to preach to its Burmese neighbor about the promotion of democracy and respect for human rights,” said a Bangkok Post commentary. “Today, Mr Abhisit has followed in the footsteps of Thailand's past leaders, even when he previously profoundly criticized them, particularly the billionaire Thaksin [shinawatra], for being obsessed with economic gains at the expense of promoting democracy in Burma.”

I will make this brief because this post is against forum rule 22 and 31. Abihist didn't invest any of his or Thailands money in Dawei.

She want to know from the PM from Japan how to survive with one of the highest debt of the world, because Thailand is racing that way.

The corruption from the following projects:

  • rice subsidy plan (not to count, but the Big money flow to wrong places, also the rice goes out the warehouses.
  • Water management will be a disaster if you go collaborate with countries with less experience
  • The infra-structure will be done like the Italian maffia. Bad quality so every 5 years you have to invest again.
  • The many officers which ask money to do many services on all the departments.

Thailand is not the most important country in Asia and over 30 years it will be the same, but their figures will be much better, because they think optimistic but not realistic.

And figures are only figures, same 2 or 3 trillion baht. It is only a figure.
