  1. If you check the comments you'll see one from Nicola McAnna:

"The police told us that Sean had never searched for anything like that in the 4 years of the computers history. It was once and clearly an accident as deleted right away. Regardless of the circumstances you are still guilty of downloading it. there was nothing else there & no searches."

  2. A right couple of morons. 500 baht fine for assault though is ridiculous.

    it's about 2 days wages..

    a hefty whack

Less than 10 per cent of a minimum wage earner. Sorry, I think it is not a lot.

it is quite a lot.. it would be like a $300 fine here for a $3000 per month earner (which is a low wage)

it would be enough to stop a repeat..

especially as it would probably be the unhappy parents copping the fine

plus the media embarrassment and the apology..

i think it's more than fair punishment

    on a side point,

people complain that thai people get a discount for national park entry etc,

when a thai who works at burger king would have to use half their day's wage to eat a meal at burger king

considering that thai men have to watch foreigners swilling expensive beers

able to take out thai girls to restaurants and night clubs,

while they have to work and can hardly afford to drink one beer at the end of the day,

    let alone travel overseas..

considering all that and more, the behaviour of young thai men toward foreigners makes the behaviour of aussie men at home toward foreigners seem barbaric and inhuman..

i did a lot worse as a kid

i see kids do much worse every week in sydney

most of these acts aren't captured on camera to view though

  3. the sydney morning herald is one of the most trusted newspapers in the world.

they don't short cut. and if they aren't sure, they'll say so.

seems it was sort of both deportation and extradition.. as he was wanted on charges in germany..
although i'm not really sure that if you are returning back to your home country that extradition is the right word..

  4. Thailand should abolish the death penalty. It serves no purpose other than revenge which can never be equated with justice. Also:

    - The death penalty is never a deterant. Having it or not having on the statute books will not stop people killing each other

    - There have been too many people executed who have later been found to be innocent

but now and then you get a sick beast of a person..

of whom there are no doubts against their guilt..

    against their grotesque actions..

and like a rabid dog, you just have to put them down

anyone can imagine a scenario where an execution would be warranted

and not as a deterrent. it's so the animal doesn't hurt anyone else

  5. coaches? that sucks.. it'll be interesting to see if they enforce it..

the coaches i mean, not the police..

    and are they including trains?

i'd miss those guys walking up and down the train's ice bucket beers.

not so much the dining car double-price beer, but still..

i like it there as an option

and it's social.. i've met many thai people this way..

sharing a drink, practicing language, passing the time as the train rattles along

good to hear that boats are fine..

the big boat to koh phangan around full moon time can be great fun

not so much if everyone's sober

  6. He must have been in a fragile state to stab himself in his chest. I have to say this is the first time I have heard of suicide by that method, but although stretching credulity, he could have been emotionally a wreck and under the influence...

I'm sure the last thing the authorities want is another farang murder in Phuket.

A list of popular suicide methods.

    http://en.wikipedia....Suicide_methods

    ironic..

in the very first section of that wikipedia article (ie. bleeding)

it has the famous juliet suicide scene from shakespeare..

    she stabs herself in grief.

  7. How can victims of credit card ATM scamming "help to identify the man?"

Are you a victim? IF not, then you have no stake, why do you even care? oh yea, cause you want to criticize someone's poor use of grammar, I bet that makes you feel better! bandwagon troll

i think that was a reasonable question..

    nothing to do with grammar.

and i'd say the police caught the pakistani man from video surveilance of the atm and its surrounds.

perhaps they captured the number plate of his vehicle.

  8. AirAsia CNX-BKK for around B2000 (slightly more or less depending on flight) and around 1.25 hrs.

Any guesstimate on High-Speed Rail fares and travel time? If the same fare as AA, will take 300,000 passenger trips to GROSS the cost of the feasibility study.

They are doing more than one feasibility study 4 I believe. Two Bangkok to Chiang Mai.

    I choose the Japanese one.

with tax and baggage it's around 3,000 baht...

and the train will be done with the chinese.. as has spoken about for 2 years.

look at the chinese trains.. light years ahead of usa, australia, etc.

    they'll get this right.

and you say demand won't recuperate costs..

but that's at current levels... expect the demand to increase.

    this is a good thing.

  9. oh yeah, about the 300 baht buses from khao san road to siem reap..

for most people this is really 900 baht

because they'll take your passport for an 'express' visa just before the border

    charging double the normal fee

i.e. 1200 baht.. when if you use american money the visa is $20 (600 baht)

and it only takes a couple of minutes to get it yourself

lots of people like this because of the convenience

but once you're on the cambodian side you are just getting shipped onto the ripoff bus anyway

the whole trip takes way too long

waiting for the bus to leave in the morning

    a slow drive

you have to wait in a huge queue for a couple of hours at the border

and waiting at the (fake) bus station for a slow bus

not to mention pressure to stay at commissioned guesthouses and to change money at bad exchange rates

    bring this new system on!

  10. good news about the train

the problem with the buses at the moment is tourists don't know about the cambodian side

so middlemen are making a lot of money

taking most tourists out to a bus station 7kms from the border and charging three times the price of the bus price

a fair proper bus service with everything in the open is surely welcome

in the meantime i recommend getting the 6am minibus from victory monument..

it flies to the border and you beat the crowds who turn up at midday

then there is a good hotel for about 300-500 baht (and some dirt cheap guesthouses) near the real bus station

buses leave in the mornings to battambang, siem reap and phnom penh

otherwise you could get a later bus to battambang and get another bus to phnom penh

or go with the crowd, share a taxi to siem reap and then another bus from there

i'm really looking forward to the train getting going in cambodia

great news all round.. especially as last year it seemed there could've been war between the countries.. good stuff!

but not her twitter nor photobucket account

and her facebook activity on statusbin is still in google cache

these are the worst type of girls.. and it doesn't surprise me she cheated on her boyfriend

nor made up this horrible lie

  12. Hi,

Could someone please explain to me why one would do this? Would it be to get an extra 14 days in Thailand?

I have extended my tourist visa by 1 month at immigration and would like to stay longer after that. Might have to start doing these types of runs soon.

    Thank you.

Re-entering by air gets you 30 days visa exempt entry. Remember if you do it after your visa has expired you may need an outbound ticket from Thailand when you check in to return.

Wow, thanks. Oh, I have an out-bound ticket from Bangkok currently scheduled for January. If I took a train to KL in Malaysia, stayed there for a few days and then re-entered Thailand with a flight to BKK would I get 30 days upon entry? Do you pay for those 30 days? How many times could I repeat this process?

    Many thanks.

30 days by flying in yeah, for free.

as a tourist, you're only meant to spend a maximum of three months in thailand in a six month period.

  13. Isn't it amazing that so many comments already criticise Thai standards.

If you don't like it, here's an idea: go home.

    Have some sense and compassion.

I am "farang" - but one thing I really hate about many other foreigners is the fact that they stay here and are waiting for the next chance to complain about anything in Thailand. You are right: Let them go home - nobody will miss them.

i have a feeling most of the thai haters are the ones who live in areas like phuket and pattaya.. places that aren't really thailand and filled with dodgy stuff.

as for you, i and plenty of other long-termer farang, we should probably increase the positive messages of why it is good here and how good real thai people are.

of course there are exceptions but not the rule.

and yes, as mentioned, thailand is a developing country. in 20 years the infrastructure has improved dramatically and each year the development accelerates. in some areas this can actually remove the charm of the place, homogenizing it into any other country. i really prefer a wet, open, ramshackle market to a shopping center that is exactly the same as any other country.

every day something reminds me why i love this country. it seems for others every day makes them hate the country more. i think they should look inside themself and ask why.
