  3. Hi.

Me and 3 mates are staying at KSR next week for the start of our first trip to thailand.

we booked online in a cheap hotel/hostel, looked alright and reviews were alright too so got involved very cheaply.

I know there has been the trouble recently and is this sitll having any affects on the area?

Also we are there 3/4 nights, what will the nightlife be like around KSR, and as it is my birthday on the Thursday what is one of the best places to go out (we are three 20 year olds)

    any help appreciated! harry

  4. Hi everyone.

Many thanks for all the help, it is all very much appreciated.

I think after seeing the advice everyone has left, we will decide a matter of days before we go wether to take on the likes of Chiang Mai or Cambodia, it is basically one or the other.

After we have done we will look at what people advised on here then head to the islands for FMP then after this we will head to krabi, phuket etc where we dont have a solid plan but we are all pretty adventurous etc so we will just get involved and see what we fancy at the time! Sound okay?

  5. Hi.

There are 3 of us travelling in 1 week to thailand, none of us have been before.

Our plan is to land in bangkok then to travel after 2 days to Cambodia to Angkor Wat. Could you please tell me the easiest route to cambodia from bangkok, i would ideally use train i think due to cost.

also then for travelling back, i would like to come via pattaya, how easy is this and how shall i do this?

Also then for the second part of the holiday we are looking at going to the south around krabi and phuket and islands around here, what would people advise for three 20 year olds, looking for a mix of culture and partying.

Many thanks, please help us! Harry

  6. Thanks for the reply, anyone else out there got anything to add? (please! :))

also one other thing I wanted to know, we land in bangkok about 4pm. would it be advisable to book a hotel for the first night(s) online before we go? and what is a good price, we would rather stay in actual hotels and probably spend about £40, so £20 each (or less!)

Also, because we are tourists is it likely any hotels would turn us away, even if we are prepared to pay (i.e because we could afford the more expensive ones)

    any recomendations, thanks

  7. Hi everyone.

I'm a frequent reader of the forum, know all you guys give great advice!

I am flying to thailand on the 14th june with 1 other friend. We are both 20 years old, university students.

We booked quite some time ago and looked at lots of possibilities, however recently obviously have been a bit worried with all the trouble.

I know you can read all the forums and advice you like but i was just wondering what you guys personally would reccomend for us to do when out there.

We are there for about 3 and a half weeks. We definetley want to go to the FMP on the 26th and were planning on having a few chill days around there on the islands. However also we would love to visit other, more cultural scenes of Thailand, which are obviously safe though.

In a 3 week period what would you reccomend. We have both saved up a lot for this trip and are open to any offers, whatever the cost! We would love to see cool things like a mix of say temples, old ruins, islands etc etc, just the standard touristy stuff!

One final thing, I have been told different things by different people, but do we need mosquito nets for sleeping at night?

Any advice you can give is VERY much appreciated, thanks, Harry!

  8. Again, many thanks for the help, I am very happy for the great information you have given me.

One final thing, can someone tell me a little bit more about the social aspect as regards to the bars/clubs. In places like Bangkok I expect there to be many clubs etc and less elsewhere. However on areas such as the islands where we will be travelling, what are they like for bars etc?

Also, what are the prices like for your standard kind of drinks at these places?

  9. Many thanks on the replies, it is a real help!

Is it easy to sort out tours once you get there? The worry was for us, was because we are pretty outgoing and adventurous that we would be tied down....

Is it easy to travel around Thailand considering we are just 3 english people? I'm 100% sure we are capable of arranging a "route" in thailand, however how expensive would trains be and also is it easy to get the right trains?

Also, I have heard very mixed reviews on Bangkok, ranging from very good to bad. How many days would you advise to stay there, we were thinking maybe 2/3 at the start of our trip and the same at the end (as we are flying to and from there).

Also, could you give me a little insight into the alcoholic drinks that are popular over there and any possible nightlife, I have heard the full moon party is a must and also there are areas in Bangkok which we would like to sample.

    Thanks :-)

  10. Hi.

There are 3 of us travelling to Thailand, on June 14th for 3 and a half weeks. None of us have been to Thailand before so need a fair bit of help!

First of all, one of my friends is keen on paying for a tour before we go, such as a northern thailand tour which ends up costing about £450 for 10 days. Is this advisable, or is it better value to make a plan yourself, and would this be easy for people like us?

Our possible plan was to Travel for about 9-10 days in land then move to the islands for the rest of the time there, how does this sound?

We are not going to book any hotels before we go and just sort it out when we get there, is this ok also?

Our budget will likely to be around £800-£1000 each for 3 and a half weeks, is this a good amount too?

What kind of places would be good for us to travel too, especially considering we are students and all outgoing, will be looking to meet loads of people, go out drinking a few times, but also sample the cultural side.

Any tips would be very much appreciated. Thanks
