  1. That's a never ending debate with no definite answer. We are all different people and so are they.

I personally saw the "evolution" of a normal thai girl working hard for peanuts in bangkok. She is now a hardened bargirl, already divorced and in search of another farang. I don't like the change because IMO she has some bad influence on my wife. But what can you do about it ?

  2. What model was it ? I'll bring two 360 consoles with me to Thailand and hope they will live a long live. One has already been replaced and the other is a recent one.

Did you try the hot towel trick ? :)

  3. So it seems there a bunch of different providers that offers different stuff but in the end it's all the same. The school in the village has a satellite dish for internet. So I guess there is no ADSL otherwise they would use that.

So my only solution if no ADSL seems to be CAT CDMA or AIS. I already have that GPRS USB modem from a few years back but the internet was so slow ...

I heard that CAT CDMA is really better but a bigger investment ? And can you download how much you want or is their a monthly limit ?

Seems I'll have to forget play online games on my computer and find a new hobby then :)

  4. Not sure whats available in your area. Here in Korat where I live there is a choice of TOT or TT&T. I have tried both and TT&T works the best in this area. I have the 3Mb Indy package for 595 baht per month and can download movies and watch streaming video. When I was in Lotus the other day there is a True booth there and they had a banner that read "True+3G+WiFi" so maybe Issan will be getting 3G which would be good for all who do not have telephone land line service.

What can you tell me about your connection ? Is it unlimited and do they throttle torrents ?

I know that the Chaiyaphum Lotus has a 3BB shop. Is that your connection?

I'll be living in a village +- 80 KM from Chaiyaphum so not sure about ADSL. My wife told me there is a phonebooth in the village and I think I saw the landline. I don't know if it is TOT or TT&T.

  5. Hi,

What internet connection do you guys use and where are you located ? For what usage ? (downloading, surfing, gaming, ...) and are you happy with it ?

I'll move in a village near Chaiyaphum and need to know what options I have. If I can't find a good internet connection to play online games on international servers (need low latency connection) well then I'll just settle for another connection enough to download movies (unlimited?) and if that's not available too (I'll be damned :)) then just something enough to surf and chat with the family. I'll need to find a new hobby if I don't find a good connection :D

    Thanks

  6. Hi guys,

I'd like to buy some mutliplayer (offline) PS2 Games in BKK to bring to the place I live to play with the locals. What games would you suggest ?

What do the locals play in their internet cafés on the PS2? Winning Eleven that's for sure, any other titles?

    Thanks :)

  7. Yes I'll try that or try to play games in an internet café near the village to see how the ping is.

True doesn't ever cover the area (or maybe it does and their website is not up to date).

But I won't buy a gaming computer for solo games, that's for sure. If the internet is bad, I'll just buy a 22" LCD screen for my netbook so I can surf and watch series.

I'll have to play console games and offline ... but there are good multiplayer games to play with the thai locals :)

  8. I have a lifetimbe sub for Star Trek Online. But I didn't know that I'll be in thailand very soon so if anyone is interested to take it over from me, send me a message :) Otherwise I'll wait to have a computer & internet to play with it :D

  9. Any other feedback about online gaming ?

It seems that the internet in Thailand is very very far away then europe or the US. It's pretty sad because I enjoy online gaming, and now that I'll be living in Isaan, I'll have more time to play.

  10. That's right. It would be stupid to invest in a strong gaming computer if the connection is bad. And I mainly want to play online games on the PC. For solo games, I can use my game consoles.

Even if I won't purchase a gaming computer before 2 or 3 months, I won't be able to know if the games are playable because I'll only have a netbook in the first months.

    Any feedback welcome.

  11. Hey, Thanks for the good advice. I'll take my time to check out all your links and I have a few others in mind. I will be in Thailand in March but don't think I'll buy a gaming computer before June or July ...

But I have another big questions who would make a big deal about online gaming, the internet connections ?

How would you qualify the internet in Thailand ? Is it enough for gaming ?

And like I said in my first post, , I will be living in a small village not far from Chaiyaphum. The fact that there are not many internet users in that area (compared to Bangkok, for sure) will it make the internet faster or does the location doesn't have any impact ? I don't even know if I could have a connection there ... By satellite maybe but even then, is that reliable?

    Thanks again

  12. I'd rather prefer to have some of your advice on what pieces to buy first. I'm not up to date with the new hardware yet :)

    I'll definitely have a look @ Pantip.

Lammbock, is it ok if that shop just mount the whole computer without installing any OS ? If not, Linux is free so they can install that and then I could format and install my copied OS at home.

And what about discounts and bargaining ? What would be a reasonable discount ? How to negotiate a good deal ?

  13. Hi guys,

I can't bring my computer with me in Thailand so I'll need to buy a new one. Could you guys give me some advice on what to buy and where to buy a good gaming computer. Between 30.000 and 40.000 BAHT.

It doesn't need to be the best, just a solid dual core gaming computer to play some MMORPG's with a 22 or 23" LCD screen.

I know some websites : http://www.invadeit.co.th and http://www.thanni.com. Can they mount the computer for a fee too?

And about the internet, I will be living in a small village not far from Chaiyaphum. So far I don't know anyone who has internet there but will ask when I will be there. Any advice on that too?

    Thanks guys :)

  14. Thanks for the replies. The Krungthai hotel seems ok but I don't know if they have a fridge, my wife won't stay in a room without fridge. I'll try to ask them if they have it, otherwise I'll stay at the Bangkok City Suite, it's not far from victory monument too.

  15. Can anyone give me some advice on a cheap hotel for 2 or 3 nights in the Ratchathewi district or near the Victory Monument ? I'll have to do some shopping in the area.

Just need a room for 2 adults with shower and AC. The rest is bonus. Cheap would be <800 Baht.

    Thanks

  16. I'll have to apply for extension based on marriage soon too and in Khon Kaen. The place where I opened my bank account was bangkok. Can I get a letter from any bank branch or do I need to get it where I opened my account ?

    Thanks

  17. Ok thank you guys. I'm likely to apply tomorrow for my first NON O visa so I'll write 90 days on the form. After the first 60 days I'll go to the immigration office and apply for an extension based on marriage.

I'll try to keep the 400K until the visa is approved and in my hands but I'm also planning on buying a car, so will see if it can wait or if I'll need to spend that money right after my application.

I still have a question about the single or multiple entry.

    - Let's say I will not ask for an extension based on marriage but choose to do the border runs. Then I need a multiple entry, right? I guess it can be done with a single entry one + re-entry permit but that would be more paperwork and is best to do with a multiple entry one.

    - Do I also need to write "90 days" on the application form for the multiple entry visa ? The 90 days are renewed each time I leave and re-enter the country, is that right?

A lot of questions but I'll like to have everything done the best I can and not have to re do it all again. Paperwork can be sometime a pain in the ass if the clerks are in a bad mood. ^^

  18. I will soon apply for a Non O visa but not sure what's the best between single or multiple entry. I don't plan to travel to other countries, just to stay in Thailand, but you never know ...

What's sure is that after 2 months in Thailand I will aply for an extension based on marriage.

    So :

    - If I apply for a single entry visa, can I change it to a multiple entry when extending it or is that not possible ?

    - On the application form, "duration of proposed stay" : I wrote 365 days. Is that ok ?

About the extension based on marriage :

    - I will "save" 400K+ on a Thai bank account on my name 2 months before going to the immigration office for the extension. Can I spend that money the next day after my application or is it safer to wait that the extension is granted?

Oh and what are the required documents to apply for a Non O visa ? I guess just my passport and the form will do ? (I have a Belgian Passport)

    Thanks a lot

  19. I'm seriously hesitating between the Isuzu DMAX 4 door/AT and Toyota Vigo 4 door/AT. I will visit their respective showrooms when I'll be there.

    DMAX or VIGO

We like the VIGO better for it's look but it could be that the model (see link) is not available with AUTO transmission. Price is same same, has AT and maintenance and spare parts would be cheaper I guess? Could the difference of interest between Isuzu and Toyota be important?

  20. Your post reads like you are looking for coin mechanisms. A coin mech can be adapted for your purpose and has been already. You could purchase them online or purchase existing coin op games or vending machines and remove the coin mech to use it for your purpose. A new one has the advantage of warranty, manual and wiring harness in tact. Check compatibility with Thai coins. Most today can be configured. A google search for "coin mechanisms" would provide you with a list of manufacturers and distributors. Best of Luck.

That's it. Thanks for the right english term. English is not my main language so sorry :)

    I found this : http://www.weavefuture.com/coin_op_system_...r_controler.htm

It's what I need. The model 3. is for playstation 2. I will look more closely but if anyone know where I can find those in Bangkok, it would be perfect.

    Thanks :D
