A great post, sir. Please correct me when I'm wrong here, but the drugstore, or pharmacist isn't at Ubon rd junction. The photo seems to be made from the railway and the next junction after the one you see on the screenshot is the world's famous Ubon road, also called highway 226.

The pharmacists, an older Chinese couple seem to have the best variety and knowledge about any medical question and they both speak a very reasonable English.

May the lord be with you and your loved ones.

Thanks for the photo I know where this is & will give it a try.Main drug is MADOPAR and is for Neuropathic pain in my feet.maybe under another name here.

Some new reading glasses should be on top of your shopping list.

Many thanks for all the information about the visa I,am working on it. Sorry about the original post I didn't realise that some members could only deal with one subject at a time we all learn something new everyday, eating Thai onions for the last 30 yrs has affected my brain, hence the prescrption drugs needed. All the best, Noncooner!!

Outside a 3km radius of my own village I wouldn't have a clue of any of the names of the other villages in my area. Perhaps there's another falang who lives within 3km of you who also reads the Isaan forum. On second thoughts, probably not. Then again maybe I'm the only one here who hasn't heard of the famous Nongkoon village

Yeah I know - "sarcasm is the lowest form of wit". Sorry - couldn't resist.

Very few meds in Thailand require a prescription but you are likely to need a large regional city pharmacy, and even then there is probably only one or two in any such city that has an extensive stock. The abundant small pharmas are a waste of space for anything other than popular Thai meds.  Within this eastern part of Lower Isaan I travel 85km to the city of Ubon to find such a pharmacy (corner of Luang and Prammathip in the old Chinese part of town opposite a Yamaha dealer if anyone is interested).

If you do happen to need regular quantities of expensive meds it's worth considering stocking up on a Bangkok visit. Eg, a non-standard antibiotic I take prophylactically for a lung condition costs 160 baht for a week's supply in a particularly cheap good Bangkok pharma I use, 180 or 200 in that Ubon pharma (seems to be a bit variable there), 320 baht in a popular falang pharma on Sukhumvit Rd Bangkok and as much as 500 baht if prescribed in a private hospital pharma!! There's a very cheap local made version at 100 baht, but it's worse than useless for me - that's not a condemnation of all 'local-mades' though as I have had no problems with local made versions of other popular antibis.

I can see by your reply you are a man of substance,as I come from a tiny country called England where most people have Google earth. Nonkoon Village is about 5klm from Yangnomchoi 15 klm from Sisaket and 60 klm from Ubon and is famous for the onions you eat with your thai food. Just had 3 days of the Onion Festival and is great fun.Your support of Arsenal tells me a lot about you and resilience,as a Stoke supporter all my life I must be one of the few present when they beat Chelsea in the League cup however no one has more cups that Stoke, most people all over the world drink from them. Thanks for the info about prescription info I'am often in Ubon. If you are ever down here I.am not difficult to find there is only 1 Farang in the village me!! Many thanks

  4. Good morning, just settling in Nonkoon village and will have to go to Laos in March to get 1yr extension for marriage, mywife would like to take her 6yr old neice with us.She lives with us nr her Grand mother but her mother lives in Bangkok!! any information would be welcome. Also any information on obtaining prescription medicines in the area.

  5. Sorry about not replying sooner, now back in UK & have contacted company in Bangkok nr embassy. There was a lot of conditions from my divorce in Thailand and these need to be translated into English, no one in the village could do it for me and thanks to all the good advice from you all,it seems to be getting done for my return later in the year

  6. Many thanks for all the replies,it has kept me busy all weekend. I have gone the legal way & seen a lawyer, he states Toyota will do nothing until 3 payments have been missed then they will be after my wife for payment?? I have all the documents including the copy of the blue book, she does not have the keys & has never made a payment so she can fight me for it. There has been a lot of hits to my problem so I guess a lot of people are in the same boat, what does surprise me is the number of Ex pats who say just give it to her & put it down to experience!! I can get a lot of experience here for 1.2 million baht. It is up to us to take everyone of them to court & the more we do it & win the word will soon get round & the Yak Yak may stop. By the way I'am not a newbie, been coming here since 1986 & what a change in the attitude of the girls, Money Money Money & scew every Farang you can, so Lads start to fight back & maybe The Thai Government will listen ?? Keep you posted on the out come.

  7. Thanks for the many varied replies, I was married legally in Bangkok Reg Office in 2004 & all purchases Car,house built & land purchase purchase came after so maybe the threat of court action for half will carry some weight? I have my bank book showing the large withdrawals to coincide with the purchases so that might help. Any e.mail address for Isan lawyers & I will send a copy to Sunbelt for information. I can sympthise with the Car Driller as I feel I will drive it into the Mekong & watch it go to Cambodia before I give it to her. Why do they claim to be Buddhist & live by thier beliefs, Ihave the car & my wife has no idea where I@am as I have moved 3 times since I left.

  8. Advice needed by anyone in same situation or been there?

Short version, Married 2004 to Thai Lady, retired 2006 & moved here, built house, purchased land & then the violence started & she made my life a misery so I left 2 years ago. I purchased a new car from Toyota , paid 215,000 depsit & rest over 4 years, met with my wife some months after I left & she agreed to let me have the car when paid for because it was in her name. 9 payments left & she says she will claim the car because it is in her name but she has not paid one baht towards it. Trouble finding English speaking lawyer in Issan so has it happened to anyone else or any advice what to do next. I have stopped payments now & waiting next step from her or Toyota

  9. There was a thread on this somewhere but I can't find it. Download the passport renewal form & payment form from the British Embassy website. I sent a copy of the information details of my old passport plus a copy of the last page to prove that it was full. I sent it direct to the Embassy in Hong Kong by ordinary post[ cost 32 baht[you can send by DHL if you prefer but it is only paper] Thats all you have to do. DO NOT SEND YOUR OLD PASSPORT. I received my new one back in 3 weeks & it cost £137 in HK dollars including the return by courier. If you take your old passport to the British Embassy in Bangkok, they will send your details for you but if you pay in Thai Baht it will cost you about £160 because of the exchange rate. British Embassy told me to cut off the corners of my old one myself. Have since had my Visa transfered & been to Camdodia to get another 60 days. Immigration just told me to show my old passport & everything was ok. Hope this helps, I had no problem at all doing it by myself.

  10. Just had my new passport from Hong Kong in Sisaket.Sent photo copy of Details with last page showing it was full with 2 photos & debit card details from Website. Sent it by ordinary post, cost 32 baht. Arr back last Monday via DHL total cost in HK Dollars £137. Says issued by FCO not Kong Kong. Have to visit immigration Thursday to get Loas visa transferred then onto Border for 60day stamp so hope no problems, will let you know now. Embassy says my old passport now viod so cut corners off yourself. Hope this is helpful??

Chippy how many days in total did this take??+ the same Uk or Thai bank debit card

Took about 3weeks and was UK debit card. I enquired at British embassy was to 7610 baht at present rate of 49 would have cost £155 or more. There is a special telephone number so suggest you ring them to see if they accept Thai Credir Card.

  12. Went to Laos Wenesday & Thurday & got the Red Stamp after 4 consec Double Visa's, some people in the queue for collections had been to Savannakhet 4 times & were told they would be refused if they came again but were given Double visa at Veintiane, so my guess is the ones who went in Sept 2009 & had the Red stamp will be refused, I don't think it depends on your country as I'am British but the fun & games seem to be coming soon. by the way there is only 1 window , the other surprise was arrived about 9am & was given no 54, very few in line. The other odd thing was the Stamp was on the very last page of my passport so I now have to get a new one so hope I will be OK next time?? Good luck to all the applications at the end of March & keep your fingers crossed!!
