  1. Thanks for the input. What I want is the easiest and cheapest way to stay. What I had read was that I have to go to Chiang Mai to get a new retirement visa with the two days' time lost and additional expense of hotel and so forth. So if it was just as easy to do 90-day check-ins or tourist visas at MS, I could avoid the CM trip. I didn't know they only give 30 days now. They used to give 90 days tourist visas at Phuket Airport.

Can I get a new retirement visa at Central Plaza?

I could not not find the procedure for mailing in the 90-day check-in. Do I just mail the old check-in slip from my passport and the new form with a self-addressed envelope (plus a change of address form)? In Phuket, they change the requirements every time you go. Sometimes they want photocopies of passport pages, sometimes not.

    Again, thanks for the help.

  2. I just moved to CR after ten years in Phuket. I have a retirement visa which is due for a 90-day check-in in June. I think I read that it can be done by mail in CR. Is that correct? How, when, what, where?

What is the easiest way to get a new retirement visa, which I will need in September? Or would it just be easier / cheaper to go to the border every 90 days instead to get a tourist visa (I don't have a vehicle)?

    Thanks for your help.

  3. The immigration office at Mae Sai would be the place. You can also mail in your 90-day report if that would be easier.

Or you can visit immigration at Central Plaza on the first Saturday of every month , their desk is by the escalator by Robinsons Dept Store.

    That is great news. Thanks!

  4. My boat has gone missing and it seems that no one knows anything about it. If it was a dinghy or a longtail or even a fishing boat, maybe that would be understandable. But this boat was a 70 ton 28 meter long steel hulled ex-German military patrol boat painted red and orange and fitted out as a party boat. I have run ads and sent out hundreds of emails to everyone I can think of, yet somehow someone towed this boat away from Ao Makham where it was tied up for six years behind a boat repairshop and made it disappear with no one seeing or hearing anything! There used to be a feeling of community here in Phuket but that seems to have also disappeared.

  5. I had to buy the entire contents of the little house I am renting and there is a lot of stuff that I don't need, so want to donate it to maybe a kids's charity or to individuals like Burmese laborers who might make use of it. There are pots and pans, dishes, plastic containers, blankets, towels and a lot more. Most of it needs a good wash and some things need minor repairs but for someone who has even less than I do, I know it would all be welcome. Would appreciate someone who can take it all at once.

  6. The founder and Director of Operations for this residential security consultancy is ready to retire so is selling new, independent branch offices of Maximum Security for a minimal investment. Buyers do not need any previous security experience as you are offered the option of having the Director personally train you if you so desire. All you will need to do to get started is the networking and marketing in the community where you want to live.

Because of our unique and advanced residential protections, our company appeared in major publications more than ten times in our first three years, more than other security concern in Asia. This includes Thailand Tatler magazine in Bangkok; Asia-Pacific Tropical Homes magazine, distributed in eight Asian nations; Property Report Thailand magazine, distributed nationally; Tropical Living magazine, both in the Experts Panel and then again featured in the following issue; twice in the Phuket Post Property Plus section; and twice in the Phuket Gazette. And the Director has been invited to speak at both the upcoming ISCPP Singapore Security Conference (building protection) and the Hotel Security Asia Conference in November. This means that the initial public relations, which usually takes so much time, cost and effort, has already been done.

We are the only security company in Asia confident enough in our protocols and methodologies to offer our clients a Double Your Money Back Guarantee should anyone in a residence for which we have developed and implemented a Total Security Program be injured by an uninvited intruder.

We do not sell equipment so there is no expensive inventory to maintain and we do not contract out personnel so minimal staff is required. Instead we provide expertise in the form of Assessments and Recommendations that offer the homeowner or property manager the opportunity to choose from the many options that will offer the home real protection as opposed to the façade of safety offered by alarms and cameras as pushed by major "security" equipment-selling companies.

    Email us for more info.

  7. I always give the standard 15% and maybe a little more if the service is very good. I couldn't enjoy the meal otherwise. I figure that if i can afford to eat in a restaurant than I am a lot better off than the poor server who is probably making less per month than I spend in a week. I still tip if there is a service charge as that rarely goes to the servers. The owners usually keep that as "reimbursement" for the salary they pay they staff.

  8. All of this talk about bar girls and scams is fallacious from the start. A scam is when one person fools the other into thinking something that isn't true. Any out of shape, wrinkled, ill-mannered, drunk too often old guy who thinks that a sweet, charming, beautiful, young girl is interested in him for anything besides his money is scamming himself. It doesn't matter what she says or doesn't say. He is choosing to believe what makes no sense at all so is 100% to blame for any financial losses he may incur. She doesn't have to say word #1 and the scam has already been effected by the guy's own delusions about himself.

  12. Beaches are closed regularly in other countries when conditions are unsafe and the same should be done here. It is unfair to the lifeguards to not close them especially in a country where employment is so tenuous and blame so readily passed down the pecking order. It is up to the provincial government to provide whatever is need to sufficiently post the warnings and to safely rescue the morons who then ignore them.

  13. I have been here for twelve years and am selling out of two businesses. I was a management consultant for almost forty years in several countries before landing in Thailand. It is incredibly difficult to do business here. The govt officials, cops and civil servants will drive you crazy and many farangs will cheat you every chance they get. If you are determined to live in Thailand, choose somewhere other than Phuket, Pattaya or Koh Samui and just live there for a couple of years until you get your feet firmly on the ground. Don't buy a bar, restaurant or guesthouse unless it will be the only one in a one-km radius and then ask yourself why no one has opened one there before or why, if its such a good deal, they are selling it. If you look at the listings of the leading business brokers in Thailand, the vast majority of enterprises for sale are from these categories for good reason. Farangs come here thinking it will be a fun, easy way to support themselves, then go out of business after a year or so and sell it to another farang who does the same. Go slow and be afraid, be very afraid.
