  1. I would suggest u rent yr car from a car rental agency. if you have an accident and it comes out she rented the car to u then i'm fairly

sure the insurance company will say the insurance is void. Then you will be footing the bill. Also u dont know what type of insurance she has

    e.g. comprehensive or 3rd party.

    Do it the easy way.

good luck no matter what u do

    cheers mark

  2. based on my experience running a lease hold guesthouse i would assume this place cost will work out to around 245,000

per month all in. its all about room occupancy, room rate, year round. lets just say u have 50% occupancy year round and yr room rate

is 700 baht per nite. so thats 7 rooms at around 700 baht per nite by say 30nights which give u roughly 158,000 baht p/mth. yr total cost are 245,000

per month. Revenue from the bar/restaraunt really dont make u that much.

on top of this u still have to pay for a work permit if u can get one. 5 million baht purchasing goodwill. The goodwill should

be reflected in the accounting books. Its probably based on the numbers and some quick accounting one of the worst deals

i have seen and should not go ahead.

Of course just my 10 cents worth.

  3. maybe this has something to do with it

On March 19, the moon will be 356,577 kilometres from Earth, the closest it has been since 1992.

The lunar perigee, or supermoon - a term that Mr Nolle said he coined in 1979 - takes place because the moon does not orbit the Earth in a perfect circle, but in a slightly elliptical manner.

"Supermoons, in fact, have a historical association with strong storms, very high tides, extreme tides and also earthquakes," Mr Nolle .

"Supermoons are like eclipses. We have roughly five to six per year ... and so it can be very close to Earth but we don't have to have one at the maximum close approach to have a notable effect."

Mr Nolle said the most recent supermoon on February 18 had an impact on Earth from February 12 to 21. He drew a link between the lunar phenomenon and the Christchurch earthquake, which hit New Zealand on February 22.

  4. think the op will need to get a 2nd hand bike. u overcome yr illness???

    cheers mark

Is there any organised form of transport between Maeramphueng and Ban Phe? I mean songthaews or that sort of thing...

There is a songthaew but I don't know any scheduling of it. Could be hourly, or just whenever enough passengers load it up.

So, transport does exist, but you're almost better off to try a motorbike taxi (no idea of the price) between Mae Rampheung and Ban Phe. Prefer my own motorbike, myself laugh.gif

  5. why not try ban phe opposite koh samet island. it happens only on the 16th april here. a brilliant day with a good mix of locals and farang.

ban phe is 1 hour drive from pattaya. the best venue is christies who out on music all day, cold beer and they normally go thru 22 water tankers

in that day. absolute blast and friendly

  6. just stick with your uk licence. dont know too much about colour blind issues but seems funny yr okay with traffic lights

and not with a board with the colours on it. What happens if the traffic lights are dirty, low illuminating etc are u still ok with them

    cheers mark

I have the same issue, red/green colourblind. Here in Chiang Mai, the colour blindness test is done at the hospital, then at the test centre you have to differentiate between dots on a board, red, yellow, green and blue - I can do that easily, but the dots in the book I'm hopeless with. If I can differentiate between green, red and yellow I don't see a problem.

The dots in the book are what I've done medicals with in the UK,these have picked up the red/green problem and also indicate that I have a minor problem with those colours.Did an internet test last night and the results said ''minor problem''.

The colour test at the test centre is look at a board from about 3-4 metres while the lady quickly pointed her stick at various colours. The board is old and faded and the circles look like they've been coloured in with crayons.

I know it's my problem as everyone else has passed it,just seems crazy that Dr's in the UK say I'm fit to drive 40 ton artics or 53 people on a coach but a Thai lady with a stick says I'm not fit to ride a motorbike over here.

    Thai logic eh ?

  8. i'm an aussie. birthdays here arent a big deal so my advice is dont get worried about it too much. trivial lies well i guess we all do it

sometimes and i think some thai girls do it for different reasons but i think essentially its just a cultural difference and them not

wanting to get into a conflict/debate over something trivial. Just love her protect yr monetary interests and enjoy yr marriage.

    cheers mark

ps no way u shud even get anyone else to talk to her about this. total loss of face

and yr marriage will go belly up

  9. i agree that 30-40k is enough in BKK.

    finy

From what you described you should be fine on 30-40k. Many farangs live out here quite comfortably on that despite having partners to support and going out regularly. You probably would not want a bike in Bangkok.

    You will not need 70k

  10. I live in Ban Phe. maeramphueng beach is ok and has quite a few retirees there. Maybe Ban Phe is a better place. it has tesco markets pharmacies etc etc. or Lae mae phim beach which is 22 kms east of ban phe. the beach at maeramphueng isnt to clean as are the beaches in the ban phe area mainly litter from koh samet island floating this way. however i am impressed with the lea mae phim beach and its cleanliness. this area is a big area for scandinavians.

hope this helps. let us know if u need more info

    brgds mark

  11. Mark from Bedrock Guesthouse often responds to travellers' question's without touting for business for his guesthouse. I'm more than happy for him to post his regular deals here. As already mentioned, don't open the post if you don't want to read it.

Keep up the good work, Mark - I might actually stop off for a couple of nights when I'm there in June.

thanks for your support. I'm not sure what peoples problems are. This is a benefit for Thai Visa members not the general public.

    cheers Mark
