  1. Thanks for all your help, yes it was the one outside before you go in, I have used them many times in the past for 100/200 BHT (I lived for over 2 years before in Pattaya) I know not to use again, and will warn others. I knew I could do a VISA run for about 3000, so 2000 extra and no worry about walking over the boarder (that I remember doing before) and all day stuck in a mini van to me was worth it....just

Have to say I did not like the scare tactics they used, 'you can try your self at the desk, but you will get a larger fine if not registered' almost walked out then, well hobbled out.

Next time I will go my self next day after landing to register, or look at getting a longer VISA from UK before I fly.

  2. Was at the desk to the left just before you go in, they started at 6000 but came down to 5000 when I said I would just go to the boarder to do it.

Last time I used them was 100 BHT for them to fill out the forms (I think not a lot anyway) so was happy to use again, not sure what it cost now days to do a VISA run, but takes up a day, and as I said with not being to good on my feet, paid and vowed to make sure not to happen again... Had the 99 BHT breakfast at Retox to cheer my self up and got tablets for my foot before getting bike taxi back home, 3 days of foot on ice and the tables got me better to at least hobble around (tendinitis)

  3. Talk about timing..

I joined Revolut a few weeks back, with a £10 deposit, but they wanted about £5 for a card, so was thinking about it and was in no rush before I fly to Thailand

Anyway just got a email, and they are now sending me the card for free.

So anyone else not after the premium, just order it a few weeks before and wait to save your self £5, not a lot, but it might help.

    Cheers

  4. Coming over for a few month again soon to Pattaya, and looking at a Revolut Card as a back up

Exchange rate looks OK, bit better than Transferwise but need to pay a small fee upfront for the card (£5)

But when used to buy something (not ATM)  how many take the card, and when they do, do any then add a % on top, I know a few hotels over the years have wanted to add 2% even for debit cards not sure about restaurants.

    Thanks

  5. disgusted about the state of the kitchen last night i put on my best Brian Clough voice and told her 'it was unacceptable and unhygenic and if it was not cleaned in the morning she could find herself on the subs bench" this morning the kitchen was pristine,so told her she was picked for tonights game, but had to put in a good performance.Maybe the op could try this if unfamiliar with Mr Clough many interviews can be found on u tube.

    And Nigel Clough..

  6. A few years back I was working in Thailand, not working as we would see it anywhere else in the world, but I knew the risk and was happy to take it, and yes got court, fine hold my hands up and that's that. BUT my brother who was on holiday for 4 days in Thailand, was done for also not having a work permit as he was talking to me in my own home when they arrested me, so we must have been talking about work, and that is working. He has now invested millions of pounds in other countries exporting from them, as a hole Thailand has lots a huge amount over some small minded man being greedy and getting two not one.

So yes even on holiday they will get you for working in Thailand if they can, was told he needed to fill out a form in the airport cost 100 bht to say he is talking to someone that owns a company in Thailand,
even got a high powder Thai lawyer involved he was that incensed, all that did was get a lower fine but the words 'I can tell him how to <deleted> o** where you can not from the lawyer was nice

Also if this has happened to him, how many others get fed up and move there business away from here, a lot a bet

  7. So what about us foreigners that have some important work to do on our laptops , like answering messages to our business back home.

Will we be hunted down and deported?

Yes you will, my bother was talking to me in my house, that was over my shop, and he was done for not having a work permet as he was seen talking to the owner of the shop (me) He no longer has anything to do with Thailand,

  8. I am moving over to live in Thailand next month as I have been given a job by my brother to look after the exporting of gift items for him back to England (as well as Spain, and may be USA at a later date)

We will be going to the gift trade shop in April, as well as going to see firm's around Thailand. We hope to be exporting a container each month by the end of the year so will be over the 1.8m.

He already has offices set up in China and India where he gets a lot of his goods from so he knows it inside out from other countries.

This is all new to me and want to make sure everything gets of to a good start, any help would be very helpful, I am not sure about the best way to get paid, is it best to get paid in England, or set up a company in Thiland and get paid throw there, and as I can only own 49% can see this is not that easy to do.

I will also need to find a good company to ship the goods back, as well as someone that can do the paper work as I am sure it will be in Thai, yes I am happy to pay for a good person. I am not after doing anything underhand.

    Thanks for any help.
