  1. A german reporter, saw it with his own eyes, innocent, unarmed people getting mowed down by the armys bullets.

From what I understand, he will submit his eyewitness account plus photo evidence he has gathered.

haha are you the german reporter???post a link when you decide to reveal your evidence

    :)

  2. According to Wiki:

Isan's total population as of 2000 was 20,825,00.

The primary rice crop in Isaan is sticky rice, accounting for about 60% of the cultivated land in the region.

Due the the desert-like climate and terrain, they can get one crop per year, two if they are lucky.

Where I live, near the Chao Phraya, they get 3-4 crops per year, and the rice tends to be Hom Mali (Jasmine) or high-yielding Hom Patum.

A large number of Isaan people work in the Bangkok and send money home.

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

    Hey Reds:

If Thaksin was really your friend, and not just using you as pawns in his Machiavellian plan to take over Thailand, he'd have developed better farming infrastructure in Isaan, and/or researched alternate farming plans, or encourage any other industry suitable for the region.

    Example: guayule

This plant grows quite well in desert climates.

What is this plant good for? Rubber.

Not just rubber, but hypoallergenic rubber, which is required in medical applications.

Thailand already is the world leader in Rubber, with all the processing infrastructure and techniques. But competition is close on Thailand's heals, being financed by the Chinese in neighboring countries. However, these efforts focus on the rubber tree, which is not hypoallergenic after normal processing. Guayule could potentially help keep Thailand ahead of the game, and give Isaan a new cash crop.

Well, maybe, Thaksin has his reasons for not coming up with ideas like that for Isaan.

Better to keep you poor and upset, so he can use you as pawns.

yeah issan has a desert climate eh! you just shot yourself in the head.

the reason people can get 4 crops where you are is the river! i live near the mun river and alot of villages here can get 3 or 4 crops also. the climates roughly the same over most of the north, north east, central and west. with the south and east(trat) getting higher and more frequent rainfall. and i know alot of people work in bkk.

they grow sticky rice because of the poor soils of issan, as central thailands soil is much more fertile so more quality rice can be produced

  3. Not that I disagree with your sentiments, I don't. But, I would suggest rice is probably cheaper from Burma these days and I guess the workers would come from Burma and Cambodia as many do now. Without government control of rice prices etc, many Issan farms would simply not be able to survive because you can be sure as hel_l that the rice mmillers and traders will not loose out on the deal. If ever the "reds" had a target it was there I would have thought.

got to say your are an idiot pure and simple, do you think that will happen? thailand the worlds biggest rice exporter will buy rice from another country???

also do you think it would be good to see all the poor rural people who work hard in the sun everyday for 200 baht or thereabouts lose thier income? what would they do? it would put the country baqck 50 years!

im enraged by you, if more people think like you then im not surprised there is so much poverty in this world

Actually its you who show yourself to be the fool. As is evident from anyone that can read, I was merely answering the hyperthetical question as posed by Tokay. I never said, or even implied, that I wanted Bangkok to get along without Isaan. No, to answer your purile and somewhat childish question - I do not think it will happen - I doubt anyone does. I also stated catagorically that I agreed with Tokay's sentiments (sorry it has more than one syllable - ask a friend what it means).

You will also see I am defending the poor farmers, and if you knew anything about the ecconomics here of the rice farming 'industry' you would know that the farmers are kept poor and oppressed by the middle men who make all the money - as my post clearly identified.

If more people thought like I do, then there would be a rice co-op for farmers who would get a decent price - not the 200 Baht you seem to think is acceptable and modern (not 50 years back [sic]) - for their rice, middle men would get a fair margin and no more, and the government would put subsidies where they belong and do most good. Wake up, this country is already 50 years behind - especially in Isaan - its new thinking and not a status quo these people need. Fools like you are happy to sit back and applaude their efforts while they break their back - how very communist of you. If this had been done years ago, then I doubt there would have been any riots this year.

firstly did i say 200 baht is acceptable? of course its not.. when i said it will put the country back 50 years i mean, like before when they were subsistace farming! ok maybe your not the monstor i thought you were. but how do you come to the conclusion that i just sit while they break their back? i actually help out with my wifes familys farm and obviuosly dont get paid for it.

  4. fyi . the heartland of thailand is bangkok and the central provinces , NOT the north or northeast (issan).

How do you think BKK would get along if Issan stopped the delivery of food to BKK and all the Issan people working in BKK just packed up and went home? Where do you think the working class comes from? Without them, how would the elite in BKK get by?

    Curious.

From Laos,Burma and Cambodia where all the hard working folk come from now. There's not a days work in most of them from issarn and thats from experience.

wow, i must stop reading these forums as im getting angry now!

you obviously dont know anything then. the people of issan have to work hard to feed themselves! :) and they work hard for 200 baht a day or even less in some cases...grrrr...whats your experience? did you go to kao yai for the weekend?

  6. or some were thrown away by their owners to conceal their identity.

in an another thread "Thailand-Live-Today-Live-Saturday" there is a quotation of 1000 cards http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Thailand-Liv...14#entry3631514 - we will never know the truth

if they wanted to do that then they would destroy them! all reds are not the bad guys!

this is just another example of poor people being exploited plain and simple, most of the protesters were paid and given food and also you have to remember alot of the people from rural thailand are simple people and dont have much how do i say savvy

  7. I suppose this just confirms the obvious....It ain't over yet

It's over. The more the reds burn, the deeper they sink themselves. No one has to discredit them. They are doing a good job themselves.

They should leave Thailand in peace.

i wouldnt say its over, do you think all the reds who didnt burn, loot and commit other crimes are going to give up? and the paid scum, do you think no one has money left??? this wont just blow over as some think.

also id like to say to all the people on this forum who are crying out for red shirt blood should take a step back and think about it, lots of innocent reds aswell as a small minority of scum bags. so toi say all reds are scum or worse terrorists is a bit strong do you not think?

one more thing, how can thailand ever be a real democracy? when even at local levels the elections are full of bribes, like i stated the other day my wife got 500baht for voting in the local election for the village of about 250 people

  8. i know its the sun, but check this out

"The war is over for the time being. Now everybody is looking for red-shirts. But in two months time things will start up again. The attacks will begin".

  9. of course the simple/rural people would believe all that hype and propaghanda, with thaksin fuling the fire from afar...if you live in the north east you will know that basically alot of people are of peasant stock and thats just a unfortunate fact, so they are actually a bit ignorant about the world...

so please dont label them all as reds and certainly not terrorists.

the real terrorists are thaksin and co not the poor they brainwashed with populist policies.

also its common knowledge they get free food and money, some are so poor they just have to follow the money like the poor sheep they are.

find the real trouble makers fast before they are brainwashed futher and commit more crimes against this wonderful nation.

    smile thailand peace

  10. yesterday was sitting watching the news on channel 7, was trying to keep up to date with the goings on and they stopped the news coverage to show us csi newyork, in the episode it had cops putting flesh eating bugs on a body, then putting the body in acid to remove the last of the flesh!

now this strikes me as crazy, why put something like this on during serious times like this? i mean i know its only csi but it was really gory...then it would flash back to the news in bkk!

but thailand does this all the time with violent movies during daytime tv. do they not think this can affect people? kids especially...look at america.

    peace for thaitown x

  11. Actually it started with Abhisit, who knew very well what would be the outcome of a harsh crackdown, yet insanly and irresponsibly proceeded with it.

Of course, blaming everything on Thaksin is the convinient excuse that relieves one of using the grey matter... as to the real cause of the problem.

There is some relief knowing that one day Abhisit will pay for his crimes behind bars.

I guess you must be a red shirt supporter, probably living somewhere in Esan listening to all the crap regurgitated by PTV. Was the government to do nothing? They gave the red shirts plenty of warnings and enough rope to hang themselves with. Thaksin has a hel_l of a lot to answer for. I hope that the government issue an Interpol arrest warrant on treason charges and bring him back to face a firing squad, but start shooting him in the ankles first and then all the way up to his squarehead. Total meglomaniac and probably insane. Doesn't give a dam_n about anyone else but himself. Absolute prick.

you just summed mr t up perfectly. total meglomaniac and probably insane!

im in issan and his populist policies have had a positive effect on healthcare and schools... but i feel because of this many rural poor are brainwashed into thinking the sun shines out of his arse.

although now im sure they will change to thinking the reds are bad...tonight the wife says people have changed abit thinking the reds are just too crazy.

also did thaksin recently say the guerilla word?

  12. hi everyone! i have a friend coming from the uk on the 2nd of june, does anyone know if the airport has taken extra measures to stay open? i have to go with my pregnant wife to pick him up and just hope the reds arent near the airport again! anyone can help me? will it be open i hope so much :)

  13. ok, never realised this was so common. can i just switch off the cut off? or do i have to unplug aswell? can i make a earth conductor on my water tower?

If you want to be lazy and just turn the switch off you may as well not bother at all just leave it on.

what? im not lazy, was just asking a few questions. do you think someone would be too lazy to pull out a few plugs? <deleted>?

  14. hi, hoping someone can help.

as the summer storms hit our village there was a power surge and in our shop the fridge and chest freezer are now damaged.

as i dont know anything about electrics, i have no idea what we need to stop this happening. also can it do the same to your tv? also are mobiles dangerous with lightning? i know we have an earth for the hot shower, but now im generally worried about all my electrics as they are typical thai style :)

  15. Hi! in april last year i started to but a few plants to brighten up my patch of dirt! this ended up being somewhat of an obsession. my garden is now full of palms, bird of paradise, succulents and some small fruit trees. i never knew anything about gardening and still dont know much...so...anyone have a mature garden and if so do you use chemical fertiliser? organic? or just water?

any tips on gardening would be sweet!

    :) cheers

  16. If you're talking about the Sirindorn Dam.............it's located south east of Ubon city :)

yes,iv'e not a clue where i'm going, probably end up in cambodia or Laos :D

sirinhorn is a nice area but just up the road is khong chiam, which has some nice places to visit and is right on the banks of the mekong.

    check out khong chiam mate

  17. 1600 trees/Rai or 1 tree/sq m . It's going to be a little crowded isn't it?

how many trees can you get in 1 rai? i thought 1600 sounded alot. anyone grow bananas? my father in law did here and said its good but he never pumped water to irrigate in the dry season so didnt get fruit worth anything during dry period, but said he got a good crop in the rain season.

any pointer? like where can you get the right type of banana? and if this is really viable?

  18. Hi Gardenubon

Don't see why you would want to cut down Cashew nut trees to plant rubber. Rubber will not make a return for 7 years and will cost more than you think. Jim

yeah i like the cashews but everyone here is statring rubber and about 9 years ago the father in law did start 40 rai and then by advice of 1 friend cut them all down as this freind said you cant grow it here so he stupidly cut them all down and did cashews instead. now the 1st year here people are getting rubber and he feels stupid i guess.

yeah did a bit more reasearch and not sure about farming in general, we have land but im not sure if i want to invest cash as i dont think i will be working on the farm too much.

cashewnut trees are nice and not too much hard word as you get the shade although i hate the moot deang when they have a nest up the cashew with all that fruit!

thanks and the cashews will stay for the time being and dad in law has nearly 2000 cashew trees so its nearly time for harvest.

If water is not a problem then why don't you try "glua koi"? Lady finger banana's are hot the trot for the export market getting 18-21 baht per kilo. You get a return in about one year, figure it out, 1600 plants to the rai @ 25 kilos per plant @ 18-21 baht per kilo = B720,000 - B840,000 per rai...the exporters say that 4 rai will provide enough for them to come from Chiang Mai and collect them. :D

    i'm thinking i must e dumb. :)

    why? what you mean?

how much does the outlay cost? that seems amazing money.done alittle research and the land we have has good drainage and some is on slopes. will this help as i just read growing on slopes is good for the drainage issue, but what i read is from qld australia. as much info as poss would be great! thanks

is this correct? 1600 plants to the rai? is that not alot? if this is true then that sounds amazing and im off right now to do a little reasearch as i know nothing about this. thanks tpi
