Traveling to Thailand with 16 YO Daughter in December. Want to do the test & go 1 day hotel & test. Anyone know the score on 16 YO traveling from UK only allowed 1 vaccine? Can they use this scheme or not classed as fully vaccinated.
thanks for any heads upngainfish, Have you had any luck?
I'm in the same boat, 3 of us fully vaccinated but Thai stepson has only 1 jab as per UK guidelines.
It seems wrong that he can't get to Thailand to see his Thai family without having to do 10 days quarantine, especially as the UK are only recommending 1 dose for now.
Has anyone been able to get a second jab for under 17 year old? (We live in Wales so rules are slightly more strict)
p.s. we have flights booked with Singapore Airlines to BKK but at the minute it would be nearly double the price to rebook to Phuket to do the Sandbox where apparently 16 year olds can travel with fully vaccinated parents without restrictions..

By the time you have taken to construct your post and waited for replies you could have searched Air Asia or one of the comparison sites and had your answer in minutes. Why bother asking on here?
This is a Forum for people to ask genuine questions, some people want first hand advice. So as you said, 'Why bother' replying if you are just going to post negative comments. It's people like you that give this Forum a bad name.

Just an update on the above, there was a bit of a delay and some questioning when entering on expired Thai passports. An immigration official was called and after a lengthy conversation all were allowed through.
My wife was told that they are clamping down on this practice for one reason or another, even though the Thai constitution states it will not deny a Thai citizen entry.
We will make sure we renew them before entering next time just in case.
Thanks again for the replies, we had a great time but now back to reality until the next trip!

Thanks for all the helpful replies, I have managed to convince the wife that they will be ok.
They will be leaving & entering UK and Singapore on UK passports & entering Thailand on expired Thai passports, while we are there they will all get new Thai passports & we have all the correct documents.
Thanks Again

Apologies if this is going over old ground, I did do a quick search the forums but anyone else with any experience of this please let me know so I've got more ammunition to convince the wife????
-
Thanks Ubonjoe, that's what I thought, I just need to convince my wife as someone she has spoken to at the Thai passport office in Thailand told her that she won't be able to do this & would need to either renew her passport in the UK or enter on her British passport which would mean having to get a visa as we are staying over 30 days.

Hi All,
I have searched with differing & out dated results as to whether it is possible for my Thai wife & step children, who have dual nationality (UK & Thai Citizenship) to enter Thailand on their expired Thai passports & get new ones while we are in Thailand.
They will leave the Uk on their British passports but as we are staying over 30 days if they are able to enter on their expired Thai passports this would mean that they wouldn't need tourist visas.
Thanks
p.s. I am trying to get through to Thai consulate in the UK to find out but it is difficult to get through to speak to anyone.

HI All,
We have submitted a settlement visa for my wife's son, they have already interviewed my wife's mother, who her son lives with in Thailand but The Embassy called my wife in the UK to ask for the other Grandparents phone number, they have also contacted my wife's mother again to get this number which we don't have.
Is this common practice, as we believed that they would only interview my wife's mother? It was mentioned in the application that the other Grandparents see the lad from time to time but not the father.
Thanks

Hi all, My wifes sister applied for her settlement visa on Monday 24th Feb got an email on Thursday 27th Feb and picked her visa up the next day, Approved!! Anyone know how this is possible, she said there were quite a few there to pick up their visas that had only been put in that week

|Hi all, my wife's Daughter will be travelling to the UK with her Aunt & we need to write a letter of consent for her to show at the check in, border control etc. Do we need to get this notarised?
Many Thanks

If her visa is valid for six months then there is no legal reason why she cannot stay in the UK until it expires. (Remember though that the 6 months begins when the visa is issued, not when she enters the UK; unless she asked for a specific start date in her application.)
People's circumstances do sometimes change whilst they are visiting friends or family in the UK enabling, or even requiring, them to stay longer than originally intended and the UKBA are aware of this.
BUT:
From what you say she has not applied yet.
Saying in her application that she intends to stay for one month when she really intends to stay for 6 is obtaining a visa by deception.
If this is discovered at the application stage she will be refused a visa.
If a visa is issued and the deception then discovered at UK immigration (they may question her and they will have access to what she said in her application) she will be refused entry.
Either way she could be banned from visiting the UK for 10 years.
Even if she does manage to enter the UK and stay for longer than originally intended, in any subsequent UK visa application she will need to explain why she did so, and how she was able to do so; especially if she used a job or similar as a reason to return.
Best advice, if she intends to stay for 6 months then that is what she should say in her application.
She has already applied and originally intended to stay for just 1 month but now her boyfriend will be away working for up to 4 months so she wants to stay for longer if possible. She doesn't have a job in Thailand, her boyfriend supports her so that won't be a problem & she also has property & land.

Hi All, I know that a Family Visit Visa to the UK is valid for stays of up to 6 months but would it cause any problems at passport/border control etc. if when my wife's sister was applying, she stated that she was only visiting for 1 month when she will in fact be staying as long as poss. before the visa expires. I know my Wife did the same when we applied for her first Visit Visa with no problems, but I have heard stories of people being grilled when trying to enter the UK under these circumstances.

I would be curious to know which of us used the SCS when applying to see if that made any difference.
We did as we thought it was best to make sure we had all the necessary documentation.
I'll hazard a guess at none at all, Stanaris.
My wife will apply for citizenship later this year and we'll opt for checking service to negate the requirement for her passport to be submitted with her application. We travel to LOS the week after the application is submitted and expect no preferential treatment. We just require my wife to retain her passport.
We didn't use SCS but I did email the UKBA to see if there was a possibility of speeding up the application as we were waiting on the outcome of her daughters settlement app. ( which was approved as soon as we emailed the copy of the approval letter for my wifes ILR)
Not used an agent for any of the 5 visa applications we have made so far, just plenty of advice & info on this lovely Forum, so thanks to all.

I think you need to give more details.
You say "bring your wife's daughter to the UK" that suggests you are both in the UK and the child is at home in Thailand.
How old is the child? Is her father on the scene? If she is not with her mother, how long have they been separated? Who looks after her now?
Hi, yes we are in the UK & her daughter is in Thailand, she is 11 in november, her Father has nothing to do with her but has agreed to accompany my wifes sister to apply for her Passport, Visa etc.
My wife has been here for nearly 2 years & we have been back to Thailand twice since then & we keep in regular contact through Skype.
She lives with her grandparents & my wifes sister but we send money for her upbringing & make the decisions regarding her schooling etc.

Hi, we are currently planning to bring my Thai Wife's daughter to the UK. Are there many people who have had difficulty applying for this type of visa from the UK rather than going to Thailand to apply in person? Any advice would be appreciated.
-
You say that you want to bring the girl to the UK. To live or for a visit?
If settlement, you may have a problem.
From what you say, the child's father takes an active interest in her upbringing. This means your wife may fail the sole responsibility criterion.
Yes we are applying for a settlement visa, but the Father has nothing to do with his daughter at all. He was contacted by my wifes sister to ask him to go in person when applying for the passport. He has given his consent to allow his daughter to come & live with us in the UK.
She lives with my Wifes Mother & we send money for her schooling, maintenance etc. & make the decisions regarding her upbringing etc.

Info from Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.
Notes :- If necessary, both parents who cannot accompany the applicant under the age of 15 to apply for an e-passport, may designate a representative to do on their behalf.
A representative is required to submit additional documents as follows :
(1) a letter of Authorization from the applicant’s parents giving he/she the authority to sign a parental consent form in front of the Passport Office’s authorized personnel
(2) a parental consent letter signed by the applicant’s non-appearing parents
(3) original Citizenship I.D. Cards of the applicant’s parents
(4) the representative’s Citizenship I.D.Card (original document)
- A parental consent letter and a letter of Authorization must be notarized by the Thai district registration office or the Thai embassy / consulate–general abroad.

You could use one of the honorary consulates in the UK to get notarization done.
Info on Hull website: http://www.thaiconsu...ifications.aspx
Thanks for the link, I have been trying to contact The Thai Consulate in Liverpool (as I live in North Wales) to see if they are able to notarize the Letter of consent rather than having to travel to London to get this done.

Hi All, My Thai wife & I are preparing to bring her daughter ( 9 yrs old) to the UK.
My wife has been with me in the Uk for nearly 2 yrs, I am aware that she is able to send a 'Letter of Parental Consent' to her sister, who lives in Thailand so that she is able to take my wifes daughter, along with the girls Father to apply for a Thai Passport.
Do we need this signed, stamped etc. by the Thai Embassy in the UK, & is the Embassy in London the only place able to do this?
Are there any other documents needed to do this?
Any thoughts, advice would be appreciated
Thanks

Just looking for a bit of re-assurance I suppose. Embassys closed for another day & still no sms. They phoned my Wife twice on Tuesday, the 2nd time asking about her son & who was taking care of him. Might it be this reason that ours is taking a while longer. My wife has 2 children, 1 lives with my Wife & her mother & the other with her ex's mother & father.
Just getting a bit anxious now, I've been fine until my Wife got the calls.
Congratulations AllThaidUp by the way & good luck to those still waiting.
Hi bryangiggs, just so you know sms's generally get sent about 10am Thailand time.
It's not unusual for the embassy to ring multiple times, they ring when they are unclear about some of the detail provided.
Did you apply for visas for the children ? Do you intend to in the future ? The embassy probably want to be clear on this point as who has sole responsibility for care of children plays a big part in deciding if settlement visas should be granted for them.
My wife applied for her son at the same time she applied for herself and providing evidence of who cared for her son on a daily basis was a big part of the application.
Your wait should be over soon though.
We havent applied for Visas for the children this time, we wanted to get my Wife settled 1st & save some money before applying for the kids. I think its just that we know we are close to finding out & I am getting a little impatient now whereas I had been fine thus far.
Thanks for the reply, like I said i just needed some re -assurance.

Hi, I've spoken to the local vaccination centre & the lady there went to her manager & although they were sympathetic, they said they could not physically book him in as he doesn't fall into the eligibility criteria.
I'm waiting to hear back from my GP to see if he could possibly give me a letter to explain the circumstances, but I'm not holding out much hope.
