  1. How can you assure someone that it's disgusting without having tried it. I suggest therefore you purchase a jar and then post your comments.

In the meanwhile, I will try it myself at only B79 a jar.

    A very unhelpful post.

    Enjoy.

Maybe the Oxx is really a PORKER? Don't be put off by his/her Asinine comments.

I'll be trying the Paste and thanks for the tip. Have been trying for years to find all the ingredients for a decent Indian Curry in Chiang Mai but without luck.

    Thanks again!

Try Indian Gourmet Kitchen for really good curries and sides. All frozen and heat up just great. They deliver too. Here is the link: igkcm.com

I've tried Pataks and Sharwoods and I have to say I don't care for either of them. I tried the large frozen packs of sauces from Makro and I don't recommend them. They one I tried wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great either. Add to that, the messing about of defrosting, either refreezing in smaller bags or cooking a large batch and freezing them. Then you end up with a freezer full of one type of curry.

Since then, I've been ordering from Indian Gourmet, a Chiang Mai delivery service of frozen curries. I've ordered five times now and everything has been superb. Their food is so much better that the frozen curries you get in Rim Ping or Tops and you get more for your money. It's almost as good as being in an Indian restaurant back home!

  2. So, we had the curries last night and we were blown away. The wife had prawn bhuna which was absolutely delicious. My friend had tikka masala which was equally as good. I had chicken curry. It wasn't like chicken curry I've had before in restaurants back home. It's their house curry or specialty dish. Quite spicy and very aromatic. It was superb. The naan was great as were the bhajis. I haven't tried the bombay potatoes or dal yet, but if they are anything like what we had last night, we're in for a treat.

Without a doubt, these were the best curries I've had in Thailand. My friend and I both agreed that we couldn't believe we weren't in an Indian restaurant back in London. Add that to the prices of everything and wow! All of the portions were very generous and really good value for money in my opinion. Both myself and my friend will definitely be ordering from them on a weekly basis. No more trips to the supermarket only to find things out of stock, and I don't need to cram loads of things into my freezer because it's free delivery. Highly recommended.

Facebook photos are mouthwatering enough without your post 555 and despite the annoying music on their website we'll give IGK a go.

Hey Rob, you can always turn your speakers down. guitar.gif If you go on their site again, look to the left of the home page and you'll see a play/pause button for the music. I quite liked it because it reminded me of the music you get in Indian restaurants.

Do you have a contact number for them,?,it sounds great

Their website is igkcm.com, check it out.

I've had the dal and bombay potatoes and they were great too. I'm putting in a second order tomorrow plus one for a friend.

  5. I was looking at the Makro but could not find any, where they hid, aehh...placed it?

As you walk down to the freezer cabinets from the front entrance, they are over on the right hand side, towards the area where dairy products like milk and butter are stored. You will have to slowly walk up and down the first couple of lines of freezer cabinets and you should find them. They sell the bags of curry sauce, they also sell catering size packs of Samosas and Onion Bhaji, as well as the packs of Nan Breads. They are there, saw them yesterday !!!

I made a trip to town today to go to makro for the curry supplies. I couldn't find any frozen bags of curry sauce. All they had were thin naan bread, a kilo bag of dal, and an expensive bag of onion bhajis. I didn't fancy the dal because i'd have to defrost then refreeze in containers. Also, without the curry there's no point in the dal. Maybe I just didn't look properly, but I checked every freezer. It's an annoying thing with supermarkets in Thailand; you never know for sure if they have what you want in stock.

Anyway, 50 minutes each way with nothing to show. Gutted! I'm going to take a chance and order some items from Indian Gourmet today and hope they can deliver to Lamphun.

As the original person recommending I feel responsible. Makro definitely had the curry sauce bases a few days ago, when I posted, I checked. I can only assume others reading this thread got there first and bought them all. All I can suggest is keep checking, they have had them most of the time for more than a year now.

It's not your fault Pat, don't worry about it. Maybe it was my eyes not working properly.

Anyway, I got my delivery yesterday from Indian Gourmet Kitchen. I'm a bit of a miser when it comes to money, so I weighed everything. The curries are a generous portion of about 400gms, dal also 400gms, naan 190gms. The dal works out about half the price of the Makro one. The bhajis also are about half the price. The naan is about 1cm thick and quite large. You get 380gms for B70 compared to 400gms for B105. So one the whole, this seems to be very good value. Tonight we eat, which is obviously the important test. I'll let you know tomorrow.

  6. WOW.

Why do you not make your own sauces.

So easy and you can freeze a few portions for future use and add different type of meat each time if you want.

Build a house, no problem. Strip an engine and rebuild it, no problem. Cook, forget it! Unless we are talking about a can of heinz spaghetti.

  8. I might try the frozen sauces at some point, but I like the idea of just being able to grab a curry from the freezer on a whim. Are those sauces very sugary, because the Patak ones are really too sweet for me? What size are the frozen sauces? Single portion would be a good idea, but can you refreeze them if they are too much for one? Or how long do they last in the fridge? Thanks.

  9. I've tried both the curry companies in Rimping and I wasn't impressed. I live quite a way outside of Chiang Mai, so getting to eat Indian food is difficult for me. I bought up a large selection of curries from Rimping on one trip to CM a few months ago, but I was disappointed with most of it.

  10. I found this curry company on facebook. I think I will give them a try, but i'd like to know if anyone else has tried them yet. They seem to have a good menu and they deliver the food to your house. They are called Indian Gourmet Kitchen igkcm.com if anyone has tried them, i'd appreciate a review.

  11. Hi Thanks for the comment

I know its crap ( my names not woody) but I couldn’t be bothered writing some long winded account of another rice scam that no one seems to have mentioned, at least you read it.

I recon the miller would have made about 40000 by claiming our rice under the scheme, if this a common practice the millers are making money hand over fist and the government is getting screwed.

As far as fruit carving I tried that and I was lucky to come away with all my fingers, I made a point of not shaking the millers hand because I have problems counting up to eight.

Another scam I heard is that some farmers have ballast tanks in the trucks that they empty after dumping the rice prior to being weighed on the way out, although I can’t verify it , may be a myth.

I woke up the other day looked at my rice and said hey.

It’s ready to harvest and thought what I should do to get my pay.

Well I aint in this bonus scheme so all I get is the market rate.

I’m standing there thinking this when along comes a guy and says Hi.

Hi says I and he says wait I can get you over the odds it aint no lie.

I’m no fool and told him so.

But he said no so let’s just go.

So we cut the rice then head off to the Millers place.

We got there and I’m looking at the farmers.

They all standing about waving papers and looking keen.

With stamps and seals and other stuff its quite a scene.

Well we weigh my rice and then were down the road.

We stop where we aint seen and count the money and I get my pay.

Its 3 Baht over the market rate so I aint complaining.

Before I leave I look back and see the miller counting

The guy who cut my rice gets his share.

    But I don’t care.

I can feed my family pay my bills

Going back home I see the farmers, what a bunch..

I’ve got my money but you’re gonna feel the crunch.

As to the quality of your skills as a “songwriter” – ever considered a career in fruitcarving?

  15. I need to get security bars for the windows. I've had a couple of quotes around B50,000 for three double doors and seventeen windows. The company that supplied the windows stopped making bars a year ago and thought the quotes were high. If anyone has had lower quotes I'd be interested in knowing where they got their bars. Thank.

  16. I have been looking for ages for sardines in vegetable oil, but with no sucess, a friend of my actually found some and bought the the lot . but hasn't seen any since. I cant understand the fasination for fish in tomatoe sauce.

I don,t hate tomatoes but with fish it just seems odd.

  17. Hi what i am trying to do is retain my multi entry Marriage visa and work part time.

In the past i have been continously employed and have just got visa extensions each year.

THis year my contract was not renewed so i got a marriage visa in KL.

I have now been offered a job teaching part time(no teachers licence required acording to the education department) at a government school.

I think i can go to the employment office with my paperwork and get a workpermit but i'm not sure, i really would like to retain my 15 months on the O visa and not change to another hisa class. If anyone can advise me it would be most appreciated.

  18. My Query sort of fits with the last post.

I am 63 and have a British passport, and have had a Thai wife for the last 7 years.

For the past 5 years I have been working and not had to worry too much about a visa as I have been getting 1 year extensions.

My Boss told me on Friday I would not be getting another contract, not a worry except my visa runs out next Sunday 28/2/10.

    My thoughts are these

1 I drive to Vientiane and get a tourist visa (60days)

2 As I am going to KL with my wife in April while there I get myself a non o visa on the basis of my marriage ( I can’t quite hit the income requirements for a marriage visa).

If this idea sounds ok I would appreciate any feedback or any advice on a better way to achieve the same final result, ie a 12 month visa.
