  1. why is it so random? I just talked to a friend I didn’t see in a while, he did this a month ago and was asked nothing on the way back except for what is the reason for coming to which he replied crossing. For rental contract what if he lives with me and my wife in the same house? also for 10k would passbook will be enough?
  2. I need to check on that, he holds Lithuanian passport and I think there is a visa on arrival, at least there was.
  3. I think flying out if not only a tad more complicated but also more expensive especially during this time of the year. The plan was to get this exemption stamp and convert it to retirement visa again and be careful with money next time. I won't be able to fly with him to help him, if the border is crossed my wife could help with that. Also isn't flying out and then flying in going to give you a tourist visa on arrival? Can that be converted to retirement?
  4. Greetings, so as I and quite a few people have said was not able to get visa extended for my dad (because of touching the money in 3 months). Alright, so I wanted to ask a few questions as I have very limited time to actually do this border crossing. As far as I know there are 2 border crossings in Chiang Rai (that are not too far away from me), we stay in Phayao. There is a crossing in Chiang Saen - by boat (think 150 baht) if not mistaken. There is a crossing in Chiang Kong - by bridge if not mistaken. So, the questions I have: 1, How long does a person need to stay there before coming back for a stamp? (First it was straight away, then recently my friend said it is 1 day in Chiang Saen), someone here says it is 2 days in Chiang Kong. Can someone clarify how many days a person has to stay in Chiang Saen and Chiang Kong especially if it is different. I am busy with work, so it is difficult to find time, but I am trying my best. I am hoping that one night is still possible in at least one of these places, some say can ask the border crossing staff (maybe). 2. Are they open 7 days a week? I was planning to go on Friday and if it one night then comeback on Saturday, is it going to be possible to cross on weekend and get a stamp? If there are 2 days that would be Sunday. 3. Lastly, what kind of things are around there in terms of hotels, restaurants, convenience stores, not important for me but for my dad yes. I really appreciate your input and any help, this place has been really helpful.
  5. I really hope something can be done, but if not then I guess it is what it is. I will need to look up all the Laos rules I guess, since I haven't been there in a while, if visa is needed or not.
  6. Thank you for the information yeah that is a bummer that you can't just do it in one day anymore like it was in the past. Now I have to stay overnight there. Actually, on that topic I do need a Laos visa I would assume. Last time I have been to Laos was 2016 in Vientiane, at that time I needed a visa. I hope there is no rule on which crossing can you get visa and which you can't.
  7. Thank you so much, I will plea his case and see what they can do. But our immigration (Phayao) is insanely difficult to work with. I did talk to them about it about 2 months ago. They said most likely won't extend, also said maybe you can get him on dependent visa (but we have no embassy or consulate here and that requires birth certificate for procession). I have read the link you posted and as I understood that 60-day exemption in Chiang Saen, is able to be converted to non-O again. May I ask what is needed to for exemption? Just passport or some other documents or fees? Laos visa of course I think, doubt they operate in the way Mae Sai did back in the days that for a fee you can just come over.
  8. Greetings everyone, I am in the need of advice. Maybe 4-5 months ago I posted about a "small" issue I had with my dad's retirement visa, in short due to immigration not saying it and his bad eyesight, that part that you must not touch 800k, Well touched it, around 100k a few weeks after extension (other than that everything else is good, never dipped below 400k, money is there 2 months prior to extension) . While I am hoping for the best as we are planning to go this Wednesday or Friday, I am also prepared for the worst. We live not very far from Chiang Rai, and I have heard that there is this boat crossing in Chaeng Saen, not entirely sure where, but I have heard about it. My question is if we go that route, cross the river (apparently now have to stay overnight) then back, apparently you get 60 days. Is that 60 days a tourist visa? Is it possible to convert it to retirement when we get back, and start that whole process again? Are there any other better options? I am looking at what is available, I haven't left the country since 2020 personally, so I know there are a lot of changes that were made for example Vientiane is no by appointment only and takes months, which would not work. Singapore only makes visas for those residing in Singapore. Considering that my dad is old, I am trying to see what the simplest way would be to go about it. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.
  9. Thanks for the advice, it seems it really depends on the immigration office. Here in Phayao, they are pretty strict compared to the other places I have dealt with. I just though me going there might make things worse. I was thinking as the worst-case scenario of going to Laos later on before extension, I assume Viantiene still does visas right but only by appointment? Singapore says they only do it for nationals of Singapore. I really hope it just goes through without an issue, but highly unlikely. May I also ask, if we leave on this retirement visa and make new one, I assume we need to make Non-O retirement again right, or like tourist across the border would work?
  10. No unfortunately he doesn't. Only has one bank account, we had 800 there then dipped to under 700, right now it is at 600. We are transferring now in segments.
  11. Hello everyone, I really really need an advice. Me personally I have been on working visa since 2016, so I didn't have much experience with retirement visa. My dad came over in September last year, we put 800k into bank account and in December extended his visa. I helped him with the forms (because he can't see well) and dropped him off at the immigration and went to take kids to school. When I came back to pick him up everything was done, the lady office told me. Please do not go below 400k and next time we will need a 12-month statement. Yesterday I was going through his documents just to see what's what, I notice this paper that he signed that said 800k after extension must not be touched for 3 months! The problem is I just saw this paper yesterday and literally 2 weeks after extending his visa, he bought a scooter so he can commute around. What should I do now? I have no idea. I wish they would have said so to me, when we extended. If I go and talk to them, will they just suddenly say that his visa is cancelled, and he must leave? Or that he overstayed? Next renewal will be in December, I don't know if there are any options that we have like leaving the country and making a new retirement visa? Our immigration here in the small town is pretty strict and very meticulous, when it comes to paperwork. Can any please give any advice on the best course of action, I really feel like if he has to leave, he will go back home, which would be heartbreaking for me.
  12. Well, that's what they told us. I think there was a paper they gave us that they wrote by hand, not sure if my dad actually has it, but still. If they deny it and the visa can't be extended, we are really screwed. He was already very surprised by the amount of small little things here and there, so this would totally put him off.
  13. Wait a second guys, this really worries me and something is not right. I went with my dad to do his retirement extension in December last year. This was his first extension since arriving here. We did it in Phayao immigration (they were open for 5 years but still say they are new). I specifically asked the lady who extended the visa about money. The ONLY thing she said and wrote on paper is this: You can use your money after extension but make sure it doesn't go below 400k, you need to make sure the money is all there before you extend the visa. And we will need a bank statement for 12 months. Thats all. Now we have touched the money after visa extension, but it never dropped below 400k. So what does that mean that he won't be able to extend this year in December? This is absurd, surely there must be a way.
  14. Hi everyone I have a few questions about extending retirement visa for my dad here: 1. Does it have to be any particular type of account? Regular, savings or fixed savings account? 2. Long long time ago for my marriage visa I used fixed savings account to get decent interest, but now that you need to leave 400k after extension I am not sure how it will work or if it will work at all. Does money need to be automatically taken out once let's say 4 months fixed savings account is reached the date. 3. The lady at KTB told me foreigners are not allowed to earn interest, which sounds absurd, not that it matters much but that lady was wrong about so many things in the past. 4. Any advice, preference people have for bank of choice? KTB, SCB, Krugsri, Kbank? Thank you.
  15. Greetings everyone, I am trying to help out a friend and wanted to ask a few questions especially about visit the wife 60 days visa. Now my friend was on the marriage visa prior and unfortunately did not have enough funds to extend it. He then left a country and came back on visit wife 60 days visa per entry, if not mistaken it is allowed to be used twice a year and each can also be extended once, so apparently 2 visas pe 2 extensions am I correct here? Also, can I ask he go out on a land border but comeback on a proper visa? So, in short, he used 2 visit the wife and 2 extensions on those and 1 30-day extension if I am correct so far. What would be the best option for him to go about now? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
