  1. Hello everyone,

I am looking for some advice. We had a few trees in the garden for 5 years; we planted when we moved in. We had 5 cocoa trees; at some point they started to have this white stuff on them almost looks like mold or something.  Even on actual fruits, someone told my wife that it was a fungal infection, and we had to them down, which was not great as they took time to grow. Now my wife said we have to cut down mango tree, we planted it when we moved in. Now I want to have an opinion on this before I cut it down. I took some photos to show how it looks like. If anyone can tell me is there a way to save the tree and treat it, we have zero experience of gardening unfortunately, but I am looking to learn.

    I appreciate any advice.

    Correct.

Most immigration offices would even accept the bank book along with photocopy of pages.

You could provide a 3 month bank statement.

The main requirement for the extension is the financials.

Other items such as map to where you live etc are office specific.

Folk will (rightly so) suggest you make application for extension couple of weeks prior to expiry of current permission of stay stamp in case immigration want something you did not bring.

    For example a TM30 etc.

    Good luck

Thank you DrJack, I assume I can go and extend before that date, because money has been in the bank way before we even bounced in Chiang Kong. Last time they said for the first extension as we originally did before we lost that visa, for one day only statement. But heck I will do 3 because they always nitpicking on things. About other documents I am not sure, I need to go there and actually ask them, I guess.

I am hoping that the new regulation about tax for income from abroad is not in play here or at least for the first extension. Don't know who would think to tax a state pension, which was already a tax at some point, but let's see.

Thank you again for your help, I appreciate that.

Your father received a Non O visa and was given a 90 day permission of stay stamp.

After the 800k has been in his Thai bank account for 2 months he will apply for 12 month extension.

Obviously that application for extension must be made prior to expiry of current stamp. (March 15).

You can apply up to 30 days prior to march 15.

Thank you, so I assume all documents that are needed are the same as for Retirement visa extension, right? Wonder, why did she say I will tell you later.

I believe for the first extension of retirement visa; the statement doesn't have to be for a whole year, right?

  4. Hi everyone, a few months ago I posted that we were not able to extend my dad's retirement visa because we touched the money after extension. So, we were able to do a border bounce at Chiang Kong and comeback with visa exemption stamp.  Having collected all the documents as if I was extending retirement visa, we went to Phayao immigration.

After all the checks they stamped something and asked to comeback in a month, we did, and we got another stamp which I posted here the photo. Only this one is until March 15 now, I am a bit puzzled why it is not a year. The staff was as usual not friendly or helpful. She said this is not a visa yet, but it seems like it is.

1.. I asked does my dad need to do 90 days, she said NO.

    2. Most important question I asked, what documents do I need to bring next time, she said I will tell you later.

Can someone please explain what is that stamp and how is it going to work next time? What documents will we need next time?  Very puzzled, I really want to start doing it soon as next month I am planning to go travel.

    Thank you for your help.

Make sure that he has a flight out of Thailand within 60 days , a Thai rental contract and 10 000 Baht , those the the requirement to be allowed back in to Thailand again , and they are enforced

why is it so random? I just talked to a friend I didn’t see in a while, he did this a month ago and was asked nothing on the way back except for what is the reason for coming to which he replied crossing.

For rental contract what if he lives with me and my wife in the same house?

also for 10k would passbook will be enough?

He will get 60 day visa exempt whether entering by land or air.  There is no visa on arrival if your country qualifies for visa exemption.  There is no advantage to a visa on arrival anyway--the visa exempt entry can be converted to a retirement visa.

I need to check on that, he holds Lithuanian passport and I think there is a visa on arrival, at least there was.

Your previous thread explaining father situation did you consider option of flying out and return to obtain 60-day stamp

I think flying out if not only a tad more complicated but also more expensive especially during this time of the year. The plan was to get this exemption stamp and convert it to retirement visa again and be careful with money next time. I won't be able to fly with him to help him, if the border is crossed my wife could help with that.  Also isn't flying out and then flying in going to give you a tourist visa on arrival? Can that be converted to retirement?

  8. Greetings, so as I and quite a few people have said was not able to get visa extended for my dad (because of touching the money in 3 months).

Alright, so I wanted to ask a few questions as I have very limited time to actually do this border crossing. As far as I know there are 2 border crossings in Chiang Rai (that are not too far away from me), we stay in Phayao.

There is a crossing in Chiang Saen - by boat (think 150 baht) if not mistaken.

There is a crossing in Chiang Kong - by bridge if not mistaken.

    So, the questions I have:

1, How long does a person need to stay there before coming back for a stamp? (First it was straight away, then recently my friend said it is 1 day in Chiang Saen), someone here says it is 2 days in Chiang Kong.  Can someone clarify how many days a person has to stay in Chiang Saen and Chiang Kong especially if it is different.  I am busy with work, so it is difficult to find time, but I am trying my best.  I am hoping that one night is still possible in at least one of these places, some say can ask the border crossing staff (maybe).

    2. Are they open 7 days a week? I was planning to go on Friday and if it one night then comeback on Saturday, is it going to be possible to cross on weekend and get a stamp? If there are 2 days that would be Sunday.

    3. Lastly, what kind of things are around there in terms of hotels, restaurants, convenience stores, not important for me but for my dad yes.

I really appreciate your input and any help, this place has been really helpful.

I can tell you from experience that if you take any money out of the 800K before the allowed to date..They (CW) will not give you an extension. You, as I have to.. must exit and start over again.

Follow the good Dr's advice above. No prescription needed.  😆

Ever notice that the TM 87 and 86 are exactly the same except for the number in the upper right corner...tit

I really hope something can be done, but if not then I guess it is what it is. I will need to look up all the Laos rules I guess, since I haven't been there in a while, if visa is needed or not.

Visa exempt entry via air or land border requires your passport.

    No forms No fees.

He could exit Thailand turn and reenter and receive a 60 day stamp.

Now regarding the thread link I posted earlier you will see that to obtain the Non O retirement the 800k is needed to be in bank on day of application.

Note: also needed to be shown as coming from abroad

In your father's case that should not be required as the funds have been in Thailand for some time.

The process is not difficult and outlined in that thread.

For the non O application from visa exempt entry he uses TM87.

Thank you for the information yeah that is a bummer that you can't just do it in one day anymore like it was in the past. Now I have to stay overnight there. Actually, on that topic I do need a Laos visa I would assume. Last time I have been to Laos was 2016 in Vientiane, at that time I needed a visa. I hope there is no rule on which crossing can you get visa and which you can't.

  11. 4 minutes ago, DrJack54 said:

You are referring to visa exempt entry.

Currently that provides a 60 day stamp (permission of stay)

That plan is for need to start over.

Sometimes due to error with financials as in your father's situation.

    https://aseannow.com/topic/1311886-visa-exempt-to-retirement-extension-process-and-cost/

I would plead his case with immigration, however more than likely will need to "start over"

I assume he does not have a reentry permit in his passport.

Thank you so much, I will plea his case and see what they can do. But our immigration (Phayao) is insanely difficult to work with. I did talk to them about it about 2 months ago. They said most likely won't extend, also said maybe you can get him on dependent visa (but we have no embassy or consulate here and that requires birth certificate for procession).

I have read the link you posted and as I understood that 60-day exemption in Chiang Saen, is able to be converted to non-O again.

May I ask what is needed to for exemption? Just passport or some other documents or fees?

Laos visa of course I think, doubt they operate in the way Mae Sai did back in the days that for a fee you can just come over.

  12. Greetings everyone, I am in the need of advice.

Maybe 4-5 months ago I posted about a "small" issue I had with my dad's retirement visa, in short due to immigration not saying it and his bad eyesight, that part that you must not touch 800k, Well touched it, around 100k a few weeks after extension (other than that everything else is good, never dipped below 400k, money is there 2 months prior to extension) . While I am hoping for the best as we are planning to go this Wednesday or Friday, I am also prepared for the worst.

We live not very far from Chiang Rai, and I have heard that there is this boat crossing in Chaeng Saen, not entirely sure where, but I have heard about it. My question is if we go that route, cross the river (apparently now have to stay overnight) then back, apparently you get 60 days. Is that 60 days a tourist visa? Is it possible to convert it to retirement when we get back, and start that whole process again? Are there any other better options? I am looking at what is available, I haven't left the country since 2020 personally, so I know there are a lot of changes that were made for example Vientiane is no by appointment only and takes months, which would not work. Singapore only makes visas for those residing in Singapore. Considering that my dad is old, I am trying to see what the simplest way would be to go about it. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

    @sup3r1or

Despite people saying nothing will happen believe me it COULD indeed turn into a situation that will have to be addressed when he goes for the new extension

Unfortunately, that you nor he noticed the paper that states the seasoning isn't gonna cut any ice with the immigration office.

The rule is written clearly, the 800k has to be in the account for 2 months before you apply for your extension, it has to stay in the account for 3 months after the extension takes effect, and then the balance can't go below 400K baht the rest of the year.

Now most offices require you to get a print out from the bank of the year detail transaction report showing the balance on the account (and every transaction) for the previous year <- That's how they can check if you followed the rules.
    BUT
    Some don't ask for it

What I'd say is, Don't let the balance go below 400K baht and get it back to 800K baht 2 months before you will have him apply for the next year extension.

Go to the office and apply for the next year extension about a month before this one expires, with the documents copies, bank letter, bank book update, like you had this year (new ones though 😛 ) and act like everything is okay. DON'T say anything about you/him pulling the balance below 800K before the 3 months was up after he got the extension.

Believe me IF it's gonna be a problem they'll catch it.

If they do catch it; they'll either say he has to leave, come back free stamp entry and start the whole process again (90 day non-O, year extension etc) OR they'll offer out a "for a fee it can be okay" solution 😮

Either way nothing other than those two things will happen. He's far from the first foreigner who didn't understand the seasoning rules,

At this time do nothing, other than make sure you follow the seasoning until you go apply for the next extension.

Thanks for the advice, it seems it really depends on the immigration office. Here in Phayao, they are pretty strict compared to the other places I have dealt with. I just though me going there might make things worse.

I was thinking as the worst-case scenario of going to Laos later on before extension, I assume Viantiene still does visas right but only by appointment? Singapore says they only do it for nationals of Singapore.  I really hope it just goes through without an issue, but highly unlikely.

May I also ask, if we leave on this retirement visa and make new one, I assume we need to make Non-O retirement again right, or like tourist across the border would work?

  14.  Hello everyone, I really really  need an advice. Me personally I have been on working visa since 2016, so I didn't have much experience with retirement visa.

My dad came over in September last year, we put 800k into bank account and in December extended his visa. I helped him with the forms (because he can't see well) and dropped him off at the immigration and went to take kids to school. When I came back to pick him up everything was done, the lady office told me. Please do not go below 400k and next time we will need a 12-month statement.

Yesterday I was going through his documents just to see what's what, I notice this paper that he signed that said 800k after extension must not be touched for 3 months! The problem is I just saw this paper yesterday and literally 2 weeks after extending his visa, he bought a scooter so he can commute around.  What should I do now? I have no idea. I wish they would have said so to me, when we extended. If I go and talk to them, will they just suddenly say that his visa is cancelled, and he must leave? Or that he overstayed? Next renewal will be in December, I don't know if there are any options that we have like leaving the country and making a new retirement visa? Our immigration here in the small town is pretty strict and very meticulous, when it comes to paperwork.

Can any please give any advice on the best course of action, I really feel like if he has to leave, he will go back home, which would be heartbreaking for me.

Different offices have different interpretation and enforcement. If that is what phayao office says, and its in writing, you should be fine.

Well, that's what they told us. I think there was a paper they gave us that they wrote by hand, not sure if my dad actually has it, but still. If they deny it and the visa can't be extended, we are really screwed. He was already very surprised by the amount of small little things here and there, so this would totally put him off.

  16. Wait a second guys, this really worries me and something is not right.

I went with my dad to do his retirement extension in December last year. This was his first extension since arriving here. We did it in Phayao immigration (they were open for 5 years but still say they are new). I specifically asked the lady who extended the visa about money. The ONLY thing she said and wrote on paper is this: You can use your money after extension but make sure it doesn't go below 400k, you need to make sure the money is all there before you extend the visa. And we will need a bank statement for 12 months. Thats all.

Now we have touched the money after visa extension, but it never dropped below 400k.  So what does that mean that he won't be able to extend this year in December? This is absurd, surely there must be a way.

  17. Hi everyone I have a few questions about extending retirement visa for my dad here:

    1. Does it have to be any particular type of account? Regular, savings or fixed savings account?

    2. Long long time ago for my marriage visa I used fixed savings account to get decent interest, but now that you need to leave 400k after extension I am not sure how it will work or if it will work at all. Does money need to be automatically taken out once let's say 4 months fixed savings account is reached the date.

    3. The lady at KTB told me foreigners are not allowed to earn interest, which sounds absurd,  not that it matters much but that lady was wrong about so many things in the past.

    4. Any advice, preference people have for bank of choice? KTB, SCB, Krugsri, Kbank?

    Thank you.

  18. Greetings everyone,

I am trying to help out a friend and wanted to ask a few questions especially about visit the wife 60 days visa. Now my friend was on the marriage visa prior and unfortunately did not have enough funds to extend it. He then left a country and came back on visit wife 60 days visa per entry, if not mistaken it is allowed to be used twice a year and each can also be extended once, so apparently 2 visas pe 2 extensions am I correct here?

Also, can I ask he go out on a land border but comeback on a proper visa?

So, in short, he used 2 visit the wife and 2 extensions on those and 1 30-day extension if I am correct so far. What would be the best option for him to go about now?

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

  19. My dad is coming here and I am trying to organize him a retirement visa. Since when that 400,000 must remain in the bank account started? This was definitely not the case. What is the reasoning behind this keeping 400k in the account, apart from hoping that the person passes away and they keep the money. What happens if you take it out and then put back 800k prior to extension? Will they cancel your visa immediately or just not extend it next time?

  20. I highly doubt any of these people had real military combat experience (including the army), the amulets of course will protect.

However, where were all these volunteers in Afghanistan, Libya, Syria AND MOST importantly Palestine or YEMEN where genocide takes place. Oh yeah, afraid of sanctions or cross path with uncle SAm or Israel.

They have zero understanding of this conflict. They will be surprised what national battalions are up to it's either do what you are told or get shot on the spot.

  21. Greeting,

My insurance is due to expire with Tokyo marine. The  renewal is very expensive. So far I have managed to find 2 great deals one from Direct Asia and another from Roojai. DirectAsia is a bit cheaper but provides higher cover than Roojai. Roojai looks good but the damage cover (for car) is only 488k, which is half the value of the car. I can't change that. Direct Asia gives 550k.

Did anyone ever dealt with any of these?
