  1. For what it's worth I downloaded onto my Singapore phone and once you determine which code to put where worked okay - I took a screenshot of the opening page and put that in my documents for review at the airport (departure/arrival) and nobody appeared interested in it - wasn't even challenged to demonstrate it (however now that they have a 3 cases of people not going to the hotel, they might be actively checking) Now that I'm in Thailand I downloaded the app again onto my Thai phone and it works same as the Singapore one (not that I leave the house much here).

I had BUPA International cover when I arrived. I had to get a letter off them specifically saying that COVID was covered, and I submitted that with my insurance certificate when I applied for the COE. It was all accepted. Then I had to show copies again at the airport when I arrived.

I'm in the final days of the 14day quarantine - coming back after 18mos away. Fully vaccinated, and have Cigna Global Healthcare Insurance which covers COVID. However, I'm skeptical about why they define $100k as necessary, and think that if they can find a way to fleece the 'farang' for it they will, so i took out a supplementary local AXA insurance for 90days which i presented upon arrival to be used in lieu of Cigna - no issues, and for circa THB7,000 felt it was worth the risk rather than them hit my main healthcare in the event i was found to be positive.

3 throat and brain ticklers later - all negative just need to get home now and lock the doors - already told the wife that the 2mtr social distance for sex requirement is going to be tough.

ll I have to say to this government is #$%& %$#!!!

If they think I'm quarantining for 14 days after coming back fully vaccinated they have another thing coming.

Hopefully they lift this before I get back in mid June or I'm breaking out early.

I’m hoping so also, have a feeling someone didn’t consider vaccinated people when they blurted out the command. Expect it might revert sometime soon, but won’t hold my breath

  4. It’s real, lost a close work colleague from it in January - he was let go as the project starting mothballing. He went back to USA within a week he had caught COVID from his son-in-law and two weeks after he was gone. The current country I’m working in has strict masking and social distancing rules - the past few weeks I’m noticing an increase in foreigners being banned from working and being sent home due to breaching the rules. Has it been successful hell yes, has it been stressful yep - but having 1 to 2 community cases per week is a fair result. I’ve just got my second vaccination shot, but recognise that i could still end catching this virus as it’s not a magic bullet, but hopefully symptoms won’t be as severe.
Before I return in July I’ll get some form of covid insurance as I believe it’s better to have it than not use it, than not to have it and end up hospitalised - that would be a large financial drain.

  5. Like it here, but always wondered about Philippines if it would be any different (although I believe the food is not as tasty). Only other place I would have made a home base would have been Venezuela until Maduro screwed it up, defo would give LOS a run for its money many years ago...

I think there should be another referendum.

Brexit, and especially the way the Scottish people voted in that referendum, has

made the UK and union a different place to what it was at the time of the original

    independence vote.

I would imagine the outcome would be far closer, but it would have to be a hell of a swing

to make a convincing case for leaving, but if 52% is enough to leave the EU, then it should

    be enough for independence.

I'm a Jock and probably sitting on the fence in this one, i've asked questions (Taxes, Currency, Consulates, Armed Forces, etc.,) and never got any plausible answers. I don't think it has been thought thru' and while many want it, i'd say they would regret it later. The First vote and Brexit IMHO were not thought through - they should have set clear targets to initiate things - a 51% vote for is not sufficient, and the bar should have been set 75%/80% to initiate a move forward. The rules were set and Salmond/Sturgeon agreed that it was a once in a lifetime opportunity, BREXIT happened and it was a separate democratic vote again with no clear definition.

I'm sure many here have differing opinions, and i don't blame the English voting to get rid of us the way SNP pushes for it, i'd vote to get rid of them by giving what they want and watch them amble along as if nothing happened.

Choices do not include "all travellers entering Thailand should have vaccination certificate and do 14 days quarantine" which is my choice. If vaccines are not available for expats then it should not be a condition of extension!

I'm sure it will be available for expats, my guess is they are trying to determine how much they can extract from the farang-wallet. Here in Singapore it's free and we are currently getting the Pfizer vaccine with 3 weeks between shots.

Also get a free box of face masks and bottle of hand sanitizer.

Everywhere you go you need masks on, and a choice of the phone tracking app, or a token that can be scanned when entering any building or shop - this has reduced contract tracing to around 1.5days

  8. I'm mid-way through getting vaccinated before i return back to Thailand - two weeks left and then i'll get the second shot and hopefully a bit of protection and hopefully return in July.

I think everybody has a choice to get it or not, but also feel that those who opt not to get it, be it National or Expat (in any country the vaccine is available), should bear full medical treatment costs if they catch COVID as the facility was available to reduce the chances of catching it if they had received the vaccine.

  9. As previously mentioned, when carrying a passport in thailand (or anywhere for that matter) there is a greater risk of losing/getting stolen. After the Malaysia plane that went missing it was noted that two of the passengers were travelling on passports stolen in thailand, and so they went on a tirade about this....now it looks like they have forgotten about this and opening up wider opportunities to have more passports stolen as opposed to solving the issue. TIT they will do as they please and to be honest if we are not happy how they run things we can either 1) accept it, or 2) move on.

To Thai Visa - Does this mean the THB2,000 fine mentioned a few days ago has now increased to THB20,000?

  10. You will have an uphill battle, and need to provide evidence against each item they have mentioned in their refusal letter.

The person reviewing your case is looking at what has been provided and evaluating whether your GF is going with the intention of not returning, so the more documentation you can provide to suggest she has assets back in Thailand and has a strong case to return back to Thailand the better chance you have.

Back in 2006 we made an application using the people that pester you at the Visa application centre and it was refused, even though she had been the previous year to visit her sister and me (I was working abroad, but managed to come back to visit her during her stay so was not mentioned on the visa application) - a point they mentioned in the refusal. She had been advised not to mention me because I was not working in the Uk. As there is time limit on the refusal appeal we decided to wait the year and reapply - this time I prepared the package, bank statements, pictures, invitation letter from family, addressed points on previous refusal and why I could not provide telephone lists (most of our correspondence was by SMS using pay as you go SIM cards), etc,. If you don't have the information don't make things up politely advise you do not have that information but do have x,y,z. We got the visa and three more successful applications. I have even questioned the visa issuing body on one occasion as we had requested a 2yr visa but only received a 6 month as to what else was required as I thought i had provided sufficient documentation and they requested return of the passport and reissued a 2yr visa. So they can be very fair if you have all the information available.

I find it a lot easier to prepare the package myself then I know who to blame.

Good luck with your application, and don't make things personal with them because they refused or you will both lose out. Look at what they are asking for, if you can make things clearer, do it, they process 100s of applications a week the easier things are presented to them the better chance you have.

  11. I don't think it will ever improve until the people who are setting the rules/regulations are people who actually sat and passed driving tests abroad and realise why it's harder to pass the tests abroad rather than Thailand. They are unlikely to fix a system when they do not know any better and no matter how much we point this out it won't make a blind bit of difference.

No doubt it will be put down to drink and it's only a matter of time before it will be a total ban during these days and then they will scratch their heads why things are still not getting better.

  12. My 5 cents worth - I'm in the process of applying for a Work Permit for Canada along with my wifes TRV but as i'm a Brit we flew to the UK. We are now in the 12th week of the process and have no idea when we will be successful as the Embassy will not commence any dialogue (it was over 7 weeks before we received a file number - that was when we were asked to take a medical).

Although i could go back to work at my job outside of the UK, my wife is stuck in the UK, and fortunately she has a sister to stay with otherwise we'd be paying for a rather lengthy hotel stay.

Bear in mind i already underwent a 6-8week process to obtain a positive Labour Market Opinion prior to making my application - it really seems like they (Canada) do not want people to visit their country...

Had we done my WP then apply in Bkk for her TRV it would be at least 4months more on the process.

  13. I don't think posting the rejection will help your case, if anything it might be detrimental for future applications, especially if it is viewed by people at the embassy.

I'm not sure how you made your submission, by yourselves or using a third party - a few years back myself and my then GF (now my wife) used one of these people at the Visa section to do our application and it was rejected as we had not satisfied them that she would return from the UK (despite she had already been across visiting her sister and we met up then too), so we had to wait 12 months before making our next application.

this time i prepared the package myself, and included answers to the rejection letter to demonstrate we could satisfy their requirements and received a 6 month visa, last year we applied for a 2 year visa and got a 6month one initially, but when i asked the question what were we missing to get the 2year one, it was reviewed, and replaced with a 2 year visa.

A lot of it depends on preparing the package and ensuring you have everything there, if you can't provide certain things say so and explain why you can't provide - any ECO worth their salt will take this into account.

As other posters have said, i think that the time spent with her is still too short for them to feel comfortable - is this right, probably not, but the chances of getting someone else within the Embassy to change that decision would be very difficult. Build your relationship in the meantime, get fotos of the two of you together lots of them in different places (make sure they are in prime locations, and not sitting in bars)....

    Good luck for the future.
