  1. When i was in phillipines last year i tried to obtain a visa from the Thai consulate , but they said no , so i emailed the last place that i had one ( Hull ) and asked them what i should do , they said it was perfectly OK for me to fedex it to somebody in UK who would pass it on to them , as long as i had already been stamped out of thailand.

  2. just curious and looking for some inspiration (not related to retiring, running a business, or teaching english :o ) and knowledge that could help me or friends looking to come over to thailand in the future. what can a farang do to make money in thailand?

there are thousands of people in pattaya in the export business , you just have to find something to export.

  3. professor..come on..these guys are talking about small fish when there is great sport to be had in bangkok..

siamese carp over 200lbs, mekong catfish over 300lbs , arapaima over 400lbs.

i stayed with these english guys that have a place just near the lake.

    check them out.

    fishing in thailand

OR you could just go there yourself and not pay 6-10,000 Baht a day for something that will cost maybe 1500 all in if you go yourself.

The so called secret spot is Bung Sam Larn in Bangkok at Thanon Navimin Soi 42 (just off Ramkhamhaeng) the local guys will be more than happy to help you tackle up and recommend bait etc, all you need to do is ask. Plus its much more fun trying to learn the place yourself and asking the locals what the score is. Rather than have someone do all the hardwork for you.

I guess you mean "Pet Fish"? Wana read about the truth of those "monster fish", then start here: http://www.megafishingthailand.com/content/view/185/45/

"this fish was stocked in May at 47kgs how can we be sure when we have 153 Mekong's, well this is a sad but funny story...

when our Mekong's were delivered the supplier handed us a piece of paper stating fish number weighs so many kgs when asked are they tagged no he proudly announced we weighed them then scratched a number on each ones head! Horrified we quickly checked one in the lorry and sure enough there neatly engraved on the poor sods head is his ID number."

As for comparing this "fishing/fishery" to anything in the wild, is like comparing a proper hunt for a Elk or Deer, to going behind the barn with your 36 Magnum and shooting a tied up grain fed monster Hog. :o

  4. Back in the UK I used to love going fishing, in particular fly fishing. I've been to some of the fishing lakes around here and whilst they are fun, I'm just getting a little tired of them. It's also becoming progressively harder to cast the line out after 10 bottles of Chang.

    Does anyone know of;

    1. any places you can go fly fishing in or around the eastern seaboard?

    2. any good sea fishing places, or boat trips / sea-angling clubs?

    I don't mind travelling a bit and making a day/weekend of it.

    Cheers.

  5. Onward tickets are a requirement for 30 day visa exempt entry and it is being enforced on that border. Normally that would mean you have to have a valid airline ticket/reservation for exit of Thailand within 30 days (although train tickets have also been accepted); but at that crossing (if I am not mistaking - someone please correct) they have a special bus ticket at 200 baht you have have to buy to satisfy this requirement.

It actually says on the wall at thai immigration that all you need is a bus/air/train ticket out of thailand dated before the 30 day expiry date , yes you can buy a bus ticket cambodia-thailand-cambodia for 200 baht on the cambodia side

  6. Lest we forget Weho, the kind of people taht are drawn to Pattaya. Whilst many of the real expats are decent guys, the fact that it also attracts the lowest scraps of western society.

Losers arrive in Pattaya. Losers kill themselves over a girl. No mystery why people kill themselves.

It also attracts even lower scraps from thai society , unfortunately that's all that's available to us farangs to get involved with.

  7. I visited an old friend up country where he lives in a little village with his Wife, her Kids and extended Family the other day, and frankly I was shocked!

He has gone completely Native......Dressing Thai, speaking Thai, eating Thai, waiing all over the place etc.

I asked my GF what the locals think of him. She told me that they laughed behind his back.

Now ain't that sad? There he is integrating himself to death, and they think it's funny.

And this got me thinking. At a time when Thailand is becoming more and more Westernized, what possible reason is there for us Farangs to go the other way?

By all means respect Thai customs, Religion etc, but keep your own for Gawd's sake!

I know, I know most of you do. But there are plenty of peeps who are losing their identity.

    And I think it's a shame. Agreed?

If he hadn't been a bar hopping drunk whoremonger to start with , he would never have got married and ended up going native.

    i pose the question,

is it better to be like this guy and go native, or is it better to be a bar hoping drunk, hormonger at a sea side resort.?

ill answer that one so none of you guys get confused. :o

i'll go with the guy going native. :D

    thank you very much. :D
