    Hi,

Could you tell me if there is some polluted or potentially flooded area in Khon Kaen city ? Where should i live and avoid ? Northern part, southern.... ?

    Thanks !:wai:

Average air pollution in KK town

  2. Thanks Rdrokit for this information, do you live there ?

No I live in JoHo but we do own farm land up there as that is where my wife is from. When we bought the land 10 years ago we thought about living there but 10 years ago Non Sung was too rural, didn't even have a 7/11. Now it has a 7/11. Lotus Express and many more new stores. If JoHo keeps growing we will sell our house here and move to Non Sung.

Ok i see, do you feel the polluton where you are ?

  3. Hello, my wife is from chayaphum, she would like to live closer to his family because we live now in phuket, I chose korat because it's a big city, there's good schools and university for my kids and I think it's a good place for start farming, land is quite cheap...

I guess you could only do the Buddhist marriage, considering his family.

Are you really such a dreamer to become a farmer in Thailand? My mother and father in law are farmers and i can tell you that they're poor.

I'd like to be honest with you. It seems that you've met her/him in Phuket right? Now's the time when the shit seems to hit the fan. All love stories seem to start like that. I mean those with a tragic end......

Some wanna move closer to the family, some give you other heartbreaking stories.

Have you ever read the book "Private Dancer?" If not, please buy one copy and read it immediately.

You're talking about good schools for your kids, but you're looking for cheap land? Korat is the "Gate to Isaan" and the pollution there's breathtaking. Really breathtaking.

How long have you guys been married?

Thanks for your advice, i know a bit about what you say, i live here for 12 years and i'm married for 7 years with 2 kids. About the farm, i don't expect to earn enough money to live, it's just to keep occupy my wife smile.png However i didn't know about the pollution in Korat, thanks may be i will reconsider my choice...

Any agricultural area in Thailand will have poor air quality when fields are being burned.

Also, Thai farmers are not very careful about the use of chemicals.

It is not uncommon to find used containers from pesticides and hernicides on the roads or on the banks of irrigation canals.

As far from income from farms, you can do alright, but I would not depend on it for my only income.

We ( my wife ) own a few farms.

We lease them out to family members to work and we do make considerable money from them as well as help out the family.

There are also more factories being built in the north all of the time..trying to avoid the flooding problems around bangkok

This has actually made the land values go up in areas suitable for building factories..

But, some of the factories are also major sourced of pollution in the area.

I'm not trying to scare you away, but these are thing to be aware of before relocating here.

I love living here for many. many reasons, but like any place you might want to live, you need to weigh the good against the bad and then decide if it's right for you and your family....or not!

    Choke dee!

Thanks for your interesting point of view, i'm not sure now if i want to live in Korat :) I'll come a few weeks for vacation before to decide....

  5. Have you ever been to korat and the surrounding areas?

It does not sound like you have.

    You should visit first.

At least look at a topographical map of the area.

It is called "The Korat Plateau" for a very good reason.

    Choke dee!

thanks i did, the province is big and there's a lot of mountain in Pak Chong area too...

You will do the following: You will rent some accommodation in the area for the duration of 6 months. During this time you can look at "land for sale" among other things. You will discover, that a good part of the land for sale have only inferior land-titles or none at all. = Hands-Off !!

If you consider Farm-Land at 500'000 Bht per Rai as "cheap", you must really start to do your homework. (Not only limited to "Land-Values".

    Cheers.

Thanks for your reply, of course i plan to rent a house first for 1 year an then i'll invest but if i can get some advices from this forum members...

  8. I plan to live in korat with my little family, may be I ask to much but I would like to find a place to buy a 5 to 10 two land for farming pretty cheap (less than 500.000 THB per rai), not more 20km from the town for my kids to go school easily, in a quiet and a green area and if it's possible with a mountain view. Which area I should look for please ?
