  1. nearly as bad as the poppy bar on beach rd ner soi8. that had a refit and a mecong and soda jumped from 25 bt to 85bt  land of smiles my arse. land of scams.

What do you think pays the bills? Fresh air :o

Thats the trouble dave a lot of people who are quite willing to pay 4 or 5 quid for a drink in the UK come to Pattaya and only pay half the price and whinge about it, that is if they have ever been to Pattaya at all.

  2. The Howard government has finally achieved it`s objective of depriving almost two thirds of the working population of their rights in relation to employment protection.

OP you should seriously consider working for yourself.

Cutting your holiday entitlement is one thing....but having your enjoyment of Pattaya seriously curtailed in this manner could well affect your attitude to working for such an employer.

Make the leap...jump the jump...work for yourself and control your working life and in so doing you will be able to visit Pattaya as often as you would wish.

In the meantime, being my own boss I will ensure that the flag is being waved (the Britsh Flag of course) during your absence mate.

    :D  :o

The new IR laws aren't in yet. Howard only only released the paper yesterday but they will be in by the end of the year. billyboy check what award you are under at present as it may not affect you for some time yet.

  3. Depending on what you want, the Penthouse Hotel might be worth a look. Theme rooms, jacuzzi rooms, Go-Go bar downstairs, more beer bars and go-go bars just outside the entrance.

They'll even arrange to pick you up at the airport, with a bottle of champagne and a "kitten" to keep you company on the way back (for a fee of course).

I would suggest that what ever hotel you decide upon, only get a room for 2-3 nights at first. Then you can look around for something better, or cheaper, or closer to where you want to be and so on.

Mate the Penthouse would have to be the biggest shit house in Pattaya, cockroaches, bed bugs and other crawly things, yuk. And prestige even though the company is paying I hate paying joiner fees as you will at the Marriott.

  4. Never been to Pattaya before and I would appreciate some recommendations - not wanting to spend more than USD100 per night at most.

I recommend you spend less money. Only a fool would spend $100 / night in Pattaya. $30 tops. Sandy spring on Soi 13 is first rate for about $30

If you want to budget $100 dont waste your time in Thailand. Thailand is for cheap living and there is no place worth $100 / night in Thailand.

Your right with the comments you made here Khun Larry and the Sandy Spring is a top choice. Any one who spends more than $40 US on a hotel in Pattaya is wasting money. So prestige give the top end hotels a miss and don't take any notice of the people who recommend them.

  6. samran I can see were you are coming from but in Australia a Federal Government Minister cannot pass a law on his own, it must go before Parliament. That is what Government legislation is all about. The whole topic of the thread was just a simple question but as some of the members suggested the law was passed by the Thai Government that foreigners must carry there Passports as a means of ID.

    Bigmike.

  7. Having worked for the Thai goverment, I know for a fact that laws take many years to come into being, from inception, through the drafting, vetting and eventually passing though the parliament.

This is the same in most democracies and Thailand is no different. If it is a ministerial order, then it is as good as a law. For the sake of efficency, ministers anywhere in the world are able to issue orders to change rules which are essentially administrative. (Eg, to change a parking find doesn't need parliament to approve it)

In my experience, even under Thai-Pumpkin-Thai (think about it..) and Dear Leader Thaksin, ministerial decisions made under the former Democrat government are still binding unless ammended.

    samaran.

Here in Australia no law that is passed in Parliament is law until it is gazetted, that means that it is published.

  8. There is a discussion on another board about tourists carrying there Passports around for ID purposes, so is it necessary to do so. I have heard that a drivers license for eg with your picture on it will do as a means of ID. As the other board points out there is nothing at at the Airport Immigration on arrival to indicate to new arrivals that you are required to do so ???????.
