  1. Dear ThaiVisa users

This is a request for information/advice. I wish to transfer the proceeds from my house sale in Thailand  from my Bangkok Bank account to my UK bank account. I have internet Bualuang i-banking with My Bangkok Bank account which permits transfer but it has a daily cap and charges for each transfer. I am now living in the UK so cannot go to my Bangkok Bank branch in person. Any suggestions for which transfer method to get the best exchange rate and smallest transfer charges from anyone in a similar situation would be appreciated. Thank you.

  2. Not sure where you are located. There is a remote control vendor in Dao Khanong, Taksin Rd on the corner of the soi that leads to the public swimming pool. He has a wide selection of every brand. I have bought TV and AC remotes controls there. Most sizeable indoor and open air markets will have a vendor selling remote controls. Just bring your old one, or a picture of it if it is lost. Most market vendors will be able to point you in the right direction if they understand what you are looking for. Good luck.

  3. Thanks Utalk, it looks like it's the same place that Mickey suggested. I'll defo go and have a look. Yes, I was thinking that I could get a yellow flag boat to Bang Po and stroll along from there. It looks like I should find what I'm looking for.

If anyone knows of a specific manufacturer that they'd recommend along Pratch Rat Sai 1 / Soi 24 in Bang Po, that would be great.

  4. I have been searching around Bangkok furniture stores looking for a decent bunkbed for my two children; Koncept, SB Furniture, Index, Ikea have yielded nothing of any quality. I am hoping that someone could recommend a good furniture manufacturer who could build a decent bunkbed (with storage drawers and ladder) if he was given a picture of the design. I am living in the Rama 2/Chomthong area but I am happy to consider any recommendations within the Bangkok area. I would appreciate hearing your recommendation if you have recently had decent wooden furniture made for a reasonable price and you think that your manufacturer is versatile enough to construct a bespoke bunkbed. Location/contact info. of the manufacturer would be great. Thank you.

  5. Went with my 2 daughters and wife last week. 600 baht for adults 300 baht for kids. Free for under 5s. My wife didn't swim or go on any of the slides; there is no discount for this option. Bring your own towel. Towel rental is 100 baht. We had our water confiscated as we entered so we had to pay the Water Park's inflated prices. A small can of Leo was 65 baht and Heineken 75 baht. Bringing your own food and drink is not permitted, although it can be purchased there at prices that are not excessive, but not cheap. There were hardly any Thais there, mostly holiday makers. We got there around lunch-time and there was not one spare sun-bed; only 15-20% were occupied, the rest had towels etc perched on them to show they were taken. That was rather annoying, but it was high season. Get there early to get a place. My kids loved the experience. It's the first time we've visited a water park as a family and despite my wife having to sit on a shaded bench near the slides, we all had a great day out. It closes at 5pm.

  6. There's a great little corner bike shop on Chan Road - soi 18/5. It's a family run business and they speak good English. Whilst not an extensive choice, the quality of bikes is better than Big C and quite reasonably priced. Don't bother with Big C, the quality of service (and bikes) you get there is terrible.

  7. Naradiawas soi 24 (or Sathu Pradit soi 19 - same road) Belle Park and Bangkok Gardens are very farang/family friendly. Central Rama 3 is close by. There's a parade of shops opposite Bangkok Gardens and there are always a few private ads in the convenience stores' windows offering what you are looking for. (around 25k/mth) Worth a look.

  8. After seeing all the True Green Wifi adverts on bus stops around Bangkok, I have tried to register my phone online, to no avail. All the info is in Thai even though there is an English translation tab at the top which must be a decorative feature.

I found some info on Bangkok Post, but no registration details.

Does any one use this free facility? I believe the free service is 5 hrs/month. If so is the service reliable? Any advice on how to register for the free service?

My phone uses a 1-2-call SIM card and I have registered my phone for 5 hours/month of free Wi-fi for AIS/BB3, but there are no hotspots for this where I would like to use it for 1-2 hours at weekends.

I know that True offer 300 baht/month unlimited Wifi connection, but I am a 'light' user and if there is a free option then it makes sense to use it, if it's any good.

    Any advice?

  10. If you're downloading movies from the internet using torrents and want to add subtitles to them, try using www.subtitles.com. After installing this free service you right click on your downloaded movie icon and in the drop down box that appears, hover over 'look for subtitles' then select the language of your choice for your subtitles. To get your subtitles to play along with the movie, make sure the title of your subtitles is exactly the same as the movie apart from the last 3 letters eg The Great Escape.avi (movie) The Great Escape.srt (subtitles). When you select your movie, the subtitles will automatically play.
