  1. My fiance and I are waiting for her petition to get approved to go to America on a K-1 visa. Since we are both living in Thailand and coming to America, I will not have proof of income because I will not have a job once I get back to America. To help us out, my father is going to sponsor my fiance.

    Few questions:

What should he write in the field for, "Relationship to Sponsor"? Future Father-In-Law?

Second, my father has a lot of accounts at a lot of firms/banks. To make things easier, can he just show proof of income from his employer to show he can support her or does he really need to supply EVERYTHING? (Stocks, Bonds, Bank Accounts, ETC.) He makes way over the poverty level.

    Thanks

  2. Paranoid I think.

    You should be ok. :)

I am also wanting to go from CM to Vientiane soon to get a double entry tourist. Do you know the most comfortable way to travel? If someone could post their experience of the various options and approximate costs i would be very grateful.

just go to any travel agent on the moat and ask them for a vientianne visa run and that you want to come back to CM. private van 2 way was like 1,800 roundtrip?

  3. I am a student at CMU that got their visa cancelled. I am going to Vientianne this next week to get a dual entry tourist visa. I have one or two questions: Can they deny me a visa? Before getting my ED visa cancelled, I was in Thailand for almost a year straight on tourist visas. I heard awhile back that they were really cracking down on farang living here on tourist visas. Another question: If they see my ED visa that was validated in June, would they have any questions for me as to why I am requesting a tourist visa instead of an extension?

I know I'm probably being paranoid but I just want to know. Thanks to all that reply!

  4. i just got back from CMU literally 5 minutes ago. my visa expired on sep. 5th. i gave my passport to the LI on the 8th for them to take it to immigration and get it stamped. everyone said not to worry as everything would be taken care of. overstay would be taken care of, everything would be fine. i went in there 30 minutes ago to pick up my passport and looked at the stamp. no new stamp. the immigration would not stamp the passport and would not give me an extension.

the program was going to be turned over to the far eastern university but now they will not take us in. one of the reasons why i signed up for this class was obviously to learn thai but i also got sick and tired of leaving the country every 3 months. CMU will not give us a visa and neither will far eastern. so basically everyone who is at CMU is up you know which creek with out a paddle.

i have no clue what to do now. im on 17 days overstay. i have been here for the last 2 years on tourist visas. i have a question: do you think i will have problems getting a tourist visa now since i have been here for so long on tourist visas?

    thanks

  5. I had a non immigrant type "b" visa when I first came here and it expired in 2008. Since then we have traveled for about 4 months together on and off through Vietnam, China, Nepal, Singapore and Malaysia. In between the visas received from those countries and returning back to the States twice, I have been staying in Thailand on tourist visas. I am currently on a tourist visa. While we wait for her visa to process to get back to the states, which I understand takes about 8 months, I am going to get an education visa starting next month.

  6. I asked this question about a month ago but I have some new questions regarding this subject. I am copy/pasting the question but I am asking some new questions:

I am 27 and she is 27. We met in America while I was studying at College/University and she was doing an Au Pair program there. Before meeting, we both had plans on coming back to Thailand. Me after I graduated and her after her Au Pair program was over. It was just completely coincidental that we met and had these plans!

We moved here in October of 2007. We have lived together here for the past two years. In that time frame, her mom has dropped the hint a few times that she would like us to get married. The thought of us living together while not being married kind of upsets her! Here is the thing though...I have not had a job or proof of income since coming here in 2007. I saved up USD 25K before I left America and I have been living off of the sale of stock and interest that the accounts have made since then. We would both like to get married, but I just don't think that the government will let us!

Since I wrote this and posted this question, I have done some more research. I took a look at the marriage affidavit at the U.S. Embassy website and it states that, " My occupation is _________ and my income is _________$US per month."

    My questions are:

    1) What do I write down in both blank spaces? I don't have an occupation and I don't have an income. I'm 27 so they might find this kind of suspicious.

    2) Can the embassy deny me permission to marry because I cannot prove proof of income to support my wife?

Thank you in advance for all those who help. I know that a lot of people like to joke around on here and while I am a joker myself, I would only appreciate real answers!

  7. Are you talking about an Immigrant VISA (IV) or a Non-Immigrant Visa (NIV)?

If you both want to get the IV, if you're going to live and work in the U.S. saving $$$ before coming back here. the process could take some time dependent on a lot of factors.

Please clarify, which visa are you looking for.

    Mac

more than likely a non immigrant visa...thanks!

  8. My girlfriend and I would like to go to America to save up enough money to buy a house and start a small company here in Chiang Mai. We are planning on getting married in October or November and hopefully being able to get to America by January. What would it take for us to get a visa for her? She has been to America before as Au Pair 2 years ago when she was 25. Will that help in getting her a visa? What is good proof that she intends to come back here? Any ideas or comments are appreciated!

  9. I just joined this forum and I am not exactly sure where to post this at!

Anyways, a little history about us: I am 27 and she is 27. We met in America while I was studying at College/University and she was doing an Au Pair program there. Before meeting, we both had plans on living in Chiang Mai. Me after I graduated and her after her Au Pair program was over. It was just completely coincidental that we met and had these plans!

We moved to Chiang Mai in October of 2007. We have lived together here for the past two years. In that time frame, her mom has dropped the hint a few times that she would like us to get married. The thought of us living together while not being married kind of upsets her! Here is the thing though...I have not had a job since coming here in 2007. I saved up USD 25K before I left America and I have been living off of the sale of stock and interest that the accounts have made since then. We would both like to get married as well, but I just don't think that the government will let us! I know that we need proof of income of 40,000 baht per month?

We are planning on leaving Thailand in July to go travel for a few months before returning to America. She is going to go study there and I am going to go find work. We plan to save enough money for a down payment on a small house and start a small business back here in Chiang Mai.

    My questions are:

    1) Are there any loopholes in the system that can allow me to get around the proof of income rule?

    2) Would it be easier to get married in the U.S.A?

    3) How far back do the government(s) look at income for proof?

    4) Any other advice is welcomed!
