  1. Thanks for responding quickly. You are right, my visa is an O-A.

I entered Thailand October 12, 2012, so if I do not leave and re-enter Thailand before July 17, 2013 (the "enter by" date on my visa), my visa will expire on October 11, 2012 at midnight. Is this correct?

If I leave Thailand and return on July 16, 2013, my visa is automatically extended until midnight July 15, 2014. Is this correct?

    Thanks

  2. I have a non immigrant multiple entry O visa (retirement in my case) issued by the Thai Embassy in Washington, DC . It has an issue date of 07/18/2012. It also has a "enter before" date of 7/17/2013. It has NO expiration date. So, when does it expire? Do my multiple entries have to occur before 7/17/2013? I do not understand how the visa expiration date, date for last entry on this visa, and the date stamp I receive at the airport tie together. Will someone knowledgable please help explain all of this? Many thanks.

  3. I have several times been unable to purchase wine and beer (don't know about hard liquor) in grocery stores like Macro, Tesco and Big C between the hours of 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM, which is a big inconvenience as I usually shop in the afternoon. Does anyone know why sale of alcohol is not allowed during this 3 hour period? I also have been told that alcohol is not sold before 11:00 AM, but I've never tried to purchase it before 11:00 AM, so I am not positive about this time restriction. I live in Krabi province. Curious to know why. wink.pngbiggrin.png Thanks

  4. I am trying to locate a source for dymondia margaretae (Silver Carpet) in Thailand. It is an absolutely wonderful groundcover growing only about 1 inch tall. It is green/gray in color with yellow flowers sometimes. It grows in hot weather and sun or partial shade. It can take rain or dry weather once established .so long as the drainage is good. It is not invasive, spreading about 18 inches, but it will keep out weeds. It is a native of South Africa and is now VERY popular in the U.S., Australia and India because it will take foot traffic and you don 't have to mow it. I want to put it between large paving stones in my yard. I am sorry that I don't have a picture, but I don't know how to load one on the forum, but you can google it and find one. giggle.gif I live outside Krabi town, but there is nothing here, so a source anywhere in Thailand that would ship to me would be great.wai.gif

  5. I play tennis but have only been able to find two courts in my area which is actually Thap Prik. First is the Physical Education College. Its a dump and you can only play before school. The other times it is taken over by the informal Tennis Mafia which sells memberships to their group to play, but does not have an arrangement with the college--so who made these guys kings of the court and where does the money go?? Second place is Tera Park, a fairly nice place that the municipality is letting go to seed. Again, there is a local tennis mafia there as well which monopolizes the courts. In this case they just keep switching out players and adding new time just as if it were a whole new doubles group. Nice. ph34r.gif

So, I am interested in some place else like a private club or hotel. I am willing to pay. I just want a nice court and no Thai toughs to deal with. Anyone have suggestions?? blink.gif

  6. send a message to putu94.look for his name here on the fforum and post a message to him.. i dont know where he is situated but he has an aviary and breeds, he loves his birds, and perhaps he could bird sit for u.... itmight be worth the travel and work out the rest with him (maybe a barter for bird stuff from the states or something); whatever u do, make sure u stipulate what to do if a bird falls ill, how much money u would want to spend on vet/meds; if the bird dies/flies away.... all in writing so both sides are protected. i would not leave a parrot at a pet shop or a vet if they arent parrot oriented/separate facilities... especially if the conure has to be handled /played with etc... make sure the birds are id'd (leg band or whatever) etc... and what to do in case for whatever reason u dont get back on time or cant come back...

Thanks for all your good inputs. I have send putu94 a message; hopefully he will have some suggestions. Thanks again!laugh.gif

  7. I don't know Krabi, but in BKK there is Thonglor Pet Hospital in Sukhumvit. Very clean and well run. Bit overpriced for dogs, but I don't know squak about bird prices. I would imagine your best bet would be a trustworthy friend.

Thanks. I'll keep them in mind if I can't find something closer. I REALLY appreciate your help.biggrin.gif

  8. I live in the Krabi area and I want to put rain gutters on my house. I would like PVC ones that are UV resistant. I found some at Home Mart and have tried 3 times to get them to come out to my house to give me an estimate. They have not come. I complained to the staff at Home Mart, but they said there is nothing they can do because the sub the work. Does anyone know another source???? jap.gif

  9. Hi--I'm in Krabi and am also looking for an attractive shed that won't rot, rust or fall apart in the first 24 hours like some local structures I have seen. PLEASE does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks a bunchjap.gif

  10. I have a friend who is Thai who has been through several female maids. They have all had to quit even though the working conditions and pay are good. Each one has said that they were having to go home to live with their parents because their husbands have girlfriends and are spending all their time and money on them. So, I imagine business would really be booming is all these less fortunate ladies could afford private eye services and the courts would enforce support for wives and children left behind. I also found out from this friend that there is no such thing as "pro bono" (free) legal services available to these poor ladies in Thailand. Not good.

Wish there were a gutsy private detective who would investigate and report (perhaps to Richard Barrow who could publish it in the paper) on all the government employees and elected officials who benefit from their positions through graft. I was hit up the other day at the Immigration Office for information by someone whose job it was to provide such information free as part of his/her job. Sad.

  11. I live in the Krabi area and will be returning to the United States later this year for a few months. Since the U.S. requires that birds (even U.S. origin birds, which mine are) be quarantined at a USDA facility for 30 days, I do not want to take my two birds home with me. I would like to find a place to board them while I am away. I have looked into two places, one vet and one pet shop and would not board at either place because they were dirty--both the cages and the facilities. Can anyone recommend a clean place where I can board my Small White Crowned Amazon and Blue Crowned Conure that is clean, provides some attention and healthy food??? I would really appreciate some help on this. jap.gif

  12. This would be a wonderful time for Krabi (I can't speak for other areas) to introduce building codes which would require new construction to be able to withstand storms and floods better. The damage in the area is so sad, but many of the destroyed buildings were so flimsy they did not have a hope of surviving even a lesser flood.

It would also be a good time for whatever entity controls licenses for fish/shrimp farms, rubber plantations and palm plantations to refuse to renew permits or otherwise discourage the rebuilding/redevelopment of these entities. We all know (if we read or happen to live near one of these farms) that the fish and shrimp farms are polluting both the land and the water, and palm and rubber plantations use land which could be used to grow crops. Just a thought. rolleyes.gif

  13. Pizza company is typical American crap !

Agree. Since when does pizza come with little hot dogs on it? dry.gif

I like La Panza and La Frenza both in Krabi Town near Chao Fa Pier. Both serve more authentic Italian style pizza.

  14. Thanks for all the suggestions. Since I was quite sure the problem was beyond by capabilities (and I'm fairly computer savvy), I sent it off to Phuket Alpha. The top cover needed to be replaced which of course required ordering parts, so I'm glad I sent it in. The service was very good and the cost reasonable, so I was satisfied. My only complaint was it took a little longer than expected for it to come back after the repairs were done and payment was wired, but it was less than a week I think so its hard to complain really. Also, if I had picked it up I could have paid with a credit card, but I was doing everything by mail from Krabi and they can't take cc payments other than in person. A change in that policy would be nice.

  15. jap.gif

See them fairly reguarly around homein phuket, the average thai's mouth starts watering the moment they sight them

Sadly true and probably accounts for the lack of many creatures my wife says she used to see as a child but have since gone.

We get some nice green bee eaters on our land and a quite a few others including this lot.

Would you identify the birds in your photos? I have seen the two on the left on my property and had no idea that there was any bird as large as the one on the right that has escaped the barbecue grill here in Thailand. Thanks

  16. I have bought several over the years, I have only found them in Bangkok, but have been told by local electrical supply stores they can order what ever size you need.

I forget the name of the electronics mall in Bangkok but it is in the same complex as the Asia Hotel in the Dong Muan area, lower floor.

Thanks to all who replied. I actually just stumbled on one in the cosmetic department of Tesco. Amazing what you find when you are not looking !

  17. :) I am living in Krabi and I cannot find a pet store that carries parrot seed. I also will likely need to board my parrot when I return to the United States for a visit, as the U.S. now requires a 30 day quarantine at a site located quite a long way from my destination. Does anyone know where I can buy the seed and/or board my bird while I am away? I am willing to travel, but not hundreds of miles. Thanks
  18. Hi-

Am new to the Krabi area and have had great difficulty finding quality products. Right now I need to find 110-220 converters for printer and power tools. Anybody got any suggestions of where to buy good ones?

    Thanks,

    Dustbunny :)
