  1. To follow up on my previous post..............................

Pla Para very kindly got in touch and I obtained a lot of informative advice from him via an exchange of P.M;s / Emails.

Yesterday, my lady and I visited him at the Temple outside Rayong, where we were made most welcome. He is a very affable and straight talking guy. I have a lot to thank him for.

  2. I'm not an expert. I'm living in Pratamnak with connections at 2 addresses about 350m apart ( View Talay 3a & Park Royal 3a ), both from 3bb ( 10/1 Premium ) - which on a good day are crap !

In order to try to prove the point, I did a search for an Upload / Download logging program and found ADAST This program produces a log and graph of various parameters ( Upload & Download speeds, Ping time, Packet loss and Jitter ). I've got mine set to test at 10 minute intervals

I had been having problems at my View Talay address for a week. Give them their due, 3bb sent an engineer to visit every day, but all he would do is log on to the 3bb speed test service and provided he got a result, turn arround and say "everything O.K. - internet very busy / very slow". After showing him a graph spanning 24 hours, where the packet loss was sometimes as high as 16%, Download speeds of less than 1Mb when I'm paying for 10 Mb, Upload Speed non-existent at times and 0.096Mb at best, etc. he spent 20 minutes on the 'phone to someone before spending 4 hours tracing my line all the way to the "Big Box" in the car-park which was pronounced "bad".

Now, I have Download speeds approaching 3Mb and Upload speeds approaching 0.7 Mb. Best of all, apart from a power cut this morning, the connection has been stable.

The default server for the Speed Test is BBC.co.uk

I have now installed this software on the PC at Park Royal, which is getting better indicated results and has certainly had a more stable connection.

As an asside - I'm looking to get a second ISP provider for my Park Royal address ( to which I'll be moving shortly ) to provide an element of redundancy. Can anyone give me a pointer as to which ISP / Service Provider I should consider ? TRUE don't have any cables into Pratamnak; 3 years ago they said they would have within 12 months, last week they said exactly the same - TiT !

As I said at the outset, I'm not an expert, so pleasedon't flame me if I've stated something that is technically inaccurate - I'm just reporting my experiences in the hope that it maybe of bennefit to others.

  3. Hi, I'm hoping that someone here can point me in the right direction, please.

I am living in Pratamnak, Pattaya; I am marrying a Thai lady on the 26th September this year.

I would like, please, to have an English speaking Monk to preside over / participate in, the ceremony, so as to explain to the falang guests what is happening.

We are planning to have the Thai Buddhist ceremony in the morning, in the garden of a private villa; then recite our vows ( falang style ) at a Thai Buffet Restaurant that same evening. I hope this plan does not offend either Thai or Buddhist culture.

Could you please recommend me to one of your English speaking colleagues ?

    Thank-you.

    Just sent you a PM.....

    To which I've replied, thank-you.

  5. This is an old thread but I think worth an update. I just scheduled internet connection with BTV, cost is 1500 installation, 2500 modem, about 1550 monthly for 10 Mb line. This price includes TV service as well. the prices including installation were posted right on the table so Thai or farang is same price. I went to ToT and she told me 1600 to install and when i opened my wallet the price changed to 3800 to install. As far as quality of service and actual speeds, I don't know yet.

When I signed up for the service 4 years ago, the modem was free. Service was B 1990 month for 2 mbps connection and cable service was an extra charge. Over the years, the service has been upgraded and prices have declined so that currently, I pay B 990 month for 4 mbps and cable TV channels are included free :) All comes in over one coax-cable and split into 2 lines in the house (one to modem/computer and the other to TV).

Where can I find a list of the ( English spaeaking ) programs available on BTV, please ?

    Thanks in anticipation..................................

  6. Thailand has plug and play race chips, buy a Race truck mag and call one of the 20 odd ecu and race chip suppliers

So now we have gone from

piggyback 3in1 harness. we usually do the fitting ourselves, but i am in the process of making a full engine wire diagram-instruction for fitting. this unit is the closests thing to a standalone system we have for the commonrail diesel trucks 4cyl.

    Models supported Commonrail:

    Toyota (vigo/fortuner) 1kd-2kd engines -3l and 2.5l

    Mitsubishi (triton, pajero) 4m41 and 4d56 -3.2 and 2.5l

    Isuzu (Dmax, Mu7) 2.5l and 3L

Chevy (colorado, optra) 2.5 and 3l

    Ford (ranger) 2.5 and 3l

Nissan (navara) 2.5 low and high spec.

To 6 cylinder diesel Teanas and a BMW,

Depends what you really want, my mate runs a full piggy back kit on his new TRD auto forskinner with out any problems at all, even if something did got wrong I would highly doubt it would require a new transmission

Ran 3x the HP 2 x the torque on a manual transmission for a hard 16,000 klm with out a problem.

A piggy back isnt for the old man down the road that wants a little more power like a race chip but can be tuned that way.

Have you ever driven a car with a full piggy back and boost system ? add a large turbo and you have some serous power that would leave many performance cars behind.

So you stay at home with your race chip and your warrenty and I will head to the drag strip with out my warrenty :D

drag strips, phuu thats boring. If I want speed, I ride a bike

what I want is performance in a daily comfy driver, doing 50-180kmh in few seconds, and cruising 160kmh for hours at low 3000rpm. Thats how I use my vehicles here in Thailand

the distance from ultimate tune to 12k baht cheap tune has become very small

my 2011 Pajero Sport 2,5 already has 178hp/400Nm from factory. ad 12k baht pressure box and dump pipe, its +230hp and 480Nm. 450Nm at 1400rpm. smooth and fast enough

the Ranger I have ordered for January delivery provides 200hp/470Nm from stock 3,2 fivepot. ad the same 12k baht pressurechips and dump pipe, we see 260hp/600Nm.

both with maintained warranty 3-5 years

used to own a car dealership for 2 decades, used to work as a manufactorer test driver, have 2 seasons rally in my spine, you cant imagine what i have been driving. but to mention a couple of extreme diesels, 5,9 Cummins at 450hp, 7,3 Ford with 50% LPG at 500hp. but the most fun was my 1973 beetle with 160hp and my first rally Golf with 180 hp in 800kg/1500pound car

Firstly, I apologise, I've come into this debate a little late. I've just purchased a 2002 ( according to the "book" ) SportRider ( 5 sp Manual 3.0ltr ) with an indicated 130k on the clock. For it's age it drives O.K. but I'd like a bit moore oomph ! I didn't buy new because I'm semi-retired on a restricted budget. I have a PCX to use about town, so the SportRider is mainly for going a distance ( living in Pattaya with in-laws in Phichit ). "Smooth, economical cruising + overtaking ability - smoke" best describes what I'm looking to achieve. I appreciate this is a "basic" non-turbo 4 pot, engine.

    VIN plate details :- Model LN167RCRMSSTA ; Eng 5L : Plant 235 Aug 99

Could you please clarify if / what / where I can get a sensible performance upgrade for THB12k ( or am I reading this wrong ? ). Do the upgrades discussed here only apply to Common-Rail, Turbo-charged, Inter-cooled engines ?

Any dealers / suppliers reading this; I have THB12k to spend, I'll be in Bangkok in 3 weeks - please make me a sensible offer ( for a sensible performance gain ) .......................

    Thanks in anticipation,

    the Proffesor

  7. O.K. Guys ( & Gals )

I'm 56, here for the long term, so I need to get Healthcare Insurance. ( If this Post is in the wrong place, would the Mods please relocate it ).

I've been offered cover from BUPA ( known to most people ) and LMG Pacific ( who I've not heard of until now ).

    BUPA Platinum THB2m cover Premium of THB55k p.a. > age 60, then THB72k p.a.

    LMG Pacific Maxi THB5m cover Premium of THB60.5k p.a. > age 60, then THB75k p.a.

Both offer "Guaranteed Renewability regardless of age or medical condition".

At the moment I'm leaning towards LMG Pacific, for a number of reasons 1) They include sports cover ( Skiing & SCUBA ) I'm a diver; 2) they offer a 20% discount if I opt out of Out Patient Department ( OPD )cover ( which appear to be excluded by the BUPA plan , unless I opt to pay an additional premium ) - which means that they're ( LMG ) offering more cover ( THB5m v THB2m ) for less money ( THB60.5k - 20% = THB48.4k v THB55k ).

    There are 2 ( obvious ) questions :-

    1) Am I missing something ?

    2) What experiences have you had with these providers ?

    Thanks in anticipation.................
