  1. Outstanding, only in Amazing Thailand.

and the real money spinner is of course those mythical lottery numbers

"The villagers also told our correspondent that some believers asked the Naga for luck and subsequently won the lottery, while those who drank water from the construction pool quickly recovered from illnesses."

Demonstrates why Thaksin has been able to fool the north so easily. I can see why people in Bangkok are hesitant to allow the northern electorate to keep choosing their government.

I would try to educate myself if i was you. You have no idea what Democracy is and Democracy is not a Human Right under the UN. You are only entitled to the right to take part in the government of your country, directly or through freely chosen representatives.. Democracy limits this right because it limits the options that are available to you. If I want to vote for a Military Dictatorship I cannot under the Democratic system.because I am limited to social norms. The UK is not a true Democracy because it doesn't have a Constitution and the US is not a true Democracy because I cannot vote for a Communist Candidate.

Most countries live under a Capitalist Democracy. There is no reason whatsoever that you can't have a Communist Democracy. Democracy is a word used by politicians to convince you you are living in a free and fair society. That's all.

If someone like Dr. Thaksin was ever elected to power in the US or the UK those countries would have military coups also.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

Just one thing. The US does have a communist party and it has had candidates for POTUS in about 40% of elections in the past 100 years. I mean, when one went into the voting booth, that was a choice. LINK

The US has a constitution including the Bill of Rights which guarantees among other things freedom of speech, freedom of association and freedom to peacefully assemble.

The US constitution is so small that it makes a booklet just 18 pages long which will fit into your shirt pocket. That includes any amendments. It has to be one of the most powerful things ever written in so few words.

The US constitution was written at a time when many of our technologies did not exist and by people who could not have imagined the world we now live in. I would suggest that it is an outdated document in need of serious revision. It was not written on stone tablets by God, it was written by slave owners with muskets.

So it seems that most of the people posting on this site love military dictatorship.

    Unbelievable!

It seems that people come to Thailand and then lose all their values - if they had any to begin with.

Or they appreciate the stability it has brought. Any rpg been launched lately?

Maybe they just aren't fooled by the so called democratic governments of Thaksin. Under his leadership there was rampant corruption and violations of human rights. A democratically elected government is not automatically a good government. Some of the very worst leaders in the world can claim to be democratically elected. If you spend any time in Thailand you would know that it is foolish to force your values on the Thai people.

  4. Here comes another country disagreeing the coup. It's not just US, UN and UK.

Of course any elected government has no choice but to condemn the coup so that their military doesn't get any ideas. But under the elected government Thailand was sliding into recession because of the political deadlock. I'm sure many people will be glad to have a period of stability where they are able to access government services which have been interrupted for the past 6 months.

  5. I would be inclined to keep her and the rest of her lackey's there and in heavier detention past the 7 days as permitted by the Martial Law Act. Reason being the lowlife scum lawyer Amsterdam mouthing off that they Thaksin and the Redshirts including the puppet will form a government in exile as per the Thailand live posts. These criminals are not going to learn so charge those in custody via military court as again permitted under the Martial Law Act with a fair charge of sedition.

There was already a government in exile, the difference is now they won't be controlling the PM anymore and will be ineffective. The best thing to do might be to charter a plane to Dubai and fill it send them on their way.

  6. Why does Thailand even have a military? All they do is covert power and money.

The role of the military is to defend the country and we have seen what happens if someone attacks Thailand in the past. The military runs home to cry to their mums.

Then why have a government either, they are only concerned with power and money, both sides.

"LAMPANG: -- About 50 red shirt supporters of the caretaker government stormed into the Lampang airport passenger terminal in search of election commissioner Somchai Srisuthiyakorn who earlier described them rude, low and wild."

Which kind of proved his point.

If you apply that as a generalisation then you help to unite a dis(organisation) and its various components. If you do that then you help Thaksin who thrives by dividing the Thai people. One of the things that gave him the ability to unite the North was the insults and degrading comments that they had ben subject to, Now the Shin dynasty has be shown to not care but are using the people from the north it is not the time to reinforce old grievances,

I don't think he was being insulting, just accurate. How else would you describe their behavior? If they want to change people's opinion of them they should change their behavior first, instead all they did was reinforce their reputation.

  8. "Thailand's armed forces chief on Friday dismissed rumors that the Royal Thai Army has planned a coup d'etat against the government, saying that such an act would not benefit the nation.

Thai Armed Forces Supreme Commander Gen. Ruengroj Mahasaranond said the rumors regarding a military coup which have spread since early this year were groundless, entirely unsubstantiated, and that the media reporting on them has been misled by some ordinary military exercises that gave them the wrong idea.

"Don't listen to those rumors but listen to me," Gen. Ruengroj was quoted by the official Thai News Agency as saying. "The military will not do a coup d'etat because the country will suffer. " July 22 2006

Two months later what happened? There was a coup. The louder that the Thai military denies that is planning a coup the more likely that one is imminent. The Thai army only has itself to blame if it lacks credibility.

  9. It's a sham. This Thai court is a sham. The outcome is rigged. All Thai court judgements are rigged. The entire Thai legal and judicial system is rigged.

We already knew that. The whole system is set up to serve the interests of the rich and powerful. The rest are supposed to take the crumbs that are left over. That is how it works. Thaksin, Suthep, Abhisit are all working to perpetuate the system as it is, for their own benefit. None of them care about the general population. Rich people get special treatment and never go to jail. Money equals justice in Thailand. If you don't know that you must be new here.

In a civilised country a political party would not dare to threaten the constitution court. Here they do and they call it democracy.

in a civilized country the judicial system would be unbiased and not quash elections because THUGS stop a minority of the voting

In a civilized country the election would have been seen as a farce with no chance of success and would have been postponed until you could at least register enough candidates.

Well you guys seem to know the answers.

If I was defending charges of this magnitude I would expect to mount the best defense I could.

The problem I see with is that say she is found guilty the perception of bias against her will only divide the people even further.

She will be found guilty. Don't worry about perception, there is bias, that is pretty clear. Bias or not she bungled the rice scheme, tried to get amnesty for her brother, and had enough other shady dealings that one of them will catch up with her. The people are about as divided as they can be already. Booting her out will not make the reds any redder. Will the UDD react with violence? Yes that's their standard reaction to anything. More anti government protesters will be killed, but that's what they are for. Leaders on both sides are more than willing to sacrifice their pawns to get what they want. In the end the Thai people will lose, and politicians will continue to fight over positions so that they can continue to bleed the country dry. Nothing changes.

  12. Yingluck says Constitutional Court should treat her like other politicians

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, maintained Thursday that the transfer in 2011 of NSC secretary-general Thawil Pliensri to become her adviser was "in line with the legal process".

Yingluck said she expected the Constitutional Court to treat her case with the same standard applied to other cases against politicians.

It was her first public reaction after the court agreed on Wednesday to consider a petition against the her by a group of senators over an alleged conflict of interest in her removal of Thawil.

She will be treated the same as the other Thaksin Puppet PMs. The standard has been set and she will follow in the footsteps of the TRT and the PPP. It would be double standards if they didn't toss her out, whining will not change the outcome.

  13. Numbers are dropping before it's even started. Early this week 500,000 were coming, but 300,000 have now changed their minds. I doubt very much that even 200,000 will turn up. They'll probably make exaggerated claims like just Suthep though. But that just makes you look stupid and lose all credibility.

Exaggerated numbers are just part of the game. If they get 20,000 that would be a good turn out in the April sunshine. The reds are moving their rallies closer and closer to Bangkok and eventually they will collide with the opposition. They understand that Yingluck is about to be forced out by the NACC and most of the PT MPs are at risk of being banned from politics as well. Without them and without any Democrat MPs there is no one who can take over. I would predict that new elections could not be held within a year given the current atmosphere. The only options left will be an appointed PM or a military coup. There is no legal mechanism to appoint a PM under the current constitution which only leaves one option. The reds have been threatening to fight any military take over, but they probably will roll over and cut a deal with the military behind the scenes. There are no good options. Stumbling along without a functioning government will eventually ruin Thailand's economy if they can't get their act together. During Songkran many Thais will head back to their villages and it would be a perfect time to bring in the tanks and seize control of Bangkok. Properly coordinated like the 2006 coup there would be less loss of life than from the road accidents that will occur over Songkran.

I will keep restating the obvious, this whole debacle is a direct result of allowing a fugitive on the run from Justice the freedom to dictate policy, appoint the prime minister and Gov actions from Dubai. That fact negates everything else going on due to the scale of corruption and abuse being perpetrated across the country including in the so called Issan heartlands.
The Shins are what are preventing the development of real democracy in Thailand. PTP need another leader untainted by the shame of the Shin clan and then some semblance of Thai politics can return.
The notion that the Shins will be allowed to just carry on is a fantasy and step by step they are losing control. The next obvious move is legal convictions against Shin sister No1.
Forget your ideological dreams of democracy, this is Thailand. It works differently here and the likes of taksin give no hope to the whole nation.

Yay let's dismantle democracy to save us from one man and his family.

My lord, u people are deluded.

What's deluded is thinking that democracy existed in the first place.

The goal isn't to have democracy but to perpetuate the current system which so easily abused. Both Thaksin and the Democrats know how to play the game and use democracy as a way to legitimize their control. The only solution would be the formation of a third party that actually represents the interests of the average citizen. But such a movement would not be allowed to succeed either.

  15. Of course the Shinawatra group want to finish the election since it will allow them to form the next government. It's easy to say that you oppose violence, but when attacks happen on a nightly basis your words are worthless. Does this indicate that Somchai W. is about to take over once Yingluck is punted? The fact is that Suthep will not openly negotiate with a government that includes Thaksin's family.

  16. A PM who runs and hides while her nation is in crisis is pathetic. She is afraid to meet with her own supporters, afraid to meet with the courts and offers no leadership out of this situation. Communicating with your country like a friend on facebook is moronic. Thailand needs a learder, not a puppet, not a coward, not a clone. Please step down Yingluck you have done enough damage to your country.

  17. Seeing the Red Shirts cheering the death of a child shows what kind of people they are. While I can sympathize with the desire for democracy in Thailand and I can see that Suthep is trying to ensure that power remains in the hands of a few powerful people there is no way that I could ever support the UDD. Their thuggish and violent tactics are not democratic. Whether the attackers who are targeting children are UDD or not they have the support of the UDD leadership. The UDD is too barbaric and extreme. The use of bombs and grenades in public spaces to kill Thais is terrorism and has been condoned by the UDD which contains PT MPs. Shame on them they should be removed from office.

  18. The people are like robots Suthep says and the robot follow orders. Yes sir, how much sir,

The problem is that both sides have mindless followers. You can't tell me that the red shirts are guilty of the same kind of behavior. The mob mentality in Thailand is a dangerous thing. There is a high tendency to conform and go with the group. Whether it is a certain color shirt on a specific day, a wristband or something else Thais follow trends. The fact is that both sides have used the same tactics and are guilty of the same kinds of offenses. Thailand desperately needs a third option.
