  1. Is Nuke them and make a parking lot on their land what the TV users recommend? :) Westerners are agressive and confrontational, especially Americans, while Asians tend to be more tactical...

The PM should just ignore the whole thing and patiently wait for 6 months even, if he has to. Not because I like the taste of being intimidated to silence except behind an anonomous internet identity but because it is the only way that will not escalate violence.

The office at Central World! where I work is back to normal with the majority of the staff working the same way they always have. The sandwiches at Au Bon Pain tastes the same and their salad is fresh. What's the big deal? - If "addressing" the big deal is going to escalate the violence.

    Just ignore the whole thing

    Edit: corrected spelling mistake

This sounds like a rational approach but have we all not witnessed the Reds becoming bolder and bolder in their illegal acts and threats the longer the have been ignored?

I'm not saying you are wrong and it appears the number or Reds on the street are dwindling but they have also stepped up their rhetoric about what will take place tomorrow.

At what point does the government decide that the law needs to be upheld? Should forces move in now while their numbers are down or wait for more to join when they see, even under emergency orders, their are no consequences and their acts become even boulder?

I don't have the answers but I do know this is not the time for the government to appear weak. A show a force or sending troops in is not the only way to show strength but they cannot continue to send the message that these kind of actions are okay be it by any group, party or color.

Lots of corrupt leaders in the past but this adminstration made it clear that this will not go on unpunished and why, they say, they went after Thaksin. If true, then they need to send the same message that mob rule and coups are not going to be the standard operating procedure in Thailand anymore either.

  2. I had to rise to the bait after i saw some of the comments on this board and the fact the 60% have voted to disperse the protesters. What can i say, what a bunch of dual standard dead heads the 60% are.

I did not see any tanks or troops on the streets when the Yellow shirts over ran the airport,

so why should we see them now. Khun Abhisit seams like a nice fella but lets face it he was

not democratically elected was he. We have the same problem in the Uk with GB.

This fact seams to have been over looked by the 60% :)

Or maybe the vast majority believed the Yellows should have been broken up too and don't believe the road to peace is continuing to make the same mistakes. And by the way, I am for being patient but believe people need to be held accountable for flagrantly breaking the law and willfully trying to hold parts of the city hostage.

You can not have a functioning society when there is no respect for the law and people feel it is okay to refuse the orders of police or that police should respond by saying kahp khoon kahp when people refuse to be arrested or obey the law.

  3. I don't really see how Abhisit or the Military can use force at this juncture. I don't doubt the ability to shut these protests down, but the cost could be too high for the country to bear. Every day that the government stands strong and nobody is injured or killed is a victory.

Either the reds will run out of steam, or they will be caught bombing or firing a grenade, or they will become outwardly aggressive or violent with authorities (more than mere skirmishes). If any of the latter two occurs it will be time to move in. Until such time they must wait.

I do understand and almost agree with you. Althought I am not sure the answer, I do find myself wondering when is the right time to disperse this unlawful assembly? There have been numerous acts of violence from indivuals (Red and those against) to the Reds working in Mobs which include storming the Parliment Grounds to pouring blood (biological agent) in the streets and on police. Any law they are made aware of, they flagarenty break. The have comendeared police and military vehicles, pushed and chased police and military ....

Bottom, line is even if somebody dies the reply will be it was a fake Red who did it or just not sanctioned blah blah blah. So, of course then is not the time to act against the entire illegal assembly. This mentality will go on forever.

The facts remain that numerous people have been injured and deprieved of their freedoms and parts of BKK are in Chaos while the citizens are living in fear of what is next.

Again, I am not sure of the answer of when the right time is but I do know you cannot continue to move the goal post and cannot come and tell prosters that you have no intention of forcing them to disperse.

  4. What Abhisit needs to do now ...

He needs to get on TV, do interviews and all else to get his message out as well as keeping everyone informed. His office needs to have hourly updates on the situation to ease fears and concerns the general public has. He needs to use this situation to show he is in charge, has a plan and reinforce his true concern for all Thailand.

Look at the popularity of the Mayor of NY after 9/11 because of his simply getting out there and talking to remind people he was in control, understood their concerns and reminded them he would do everything in his power for their benefit.
