  1. If you are looking for specifically German Shepherd / Alsatians, I know of 3 adult (1 1/2 year old) dogs available in Nakhorn Ratchasima. one male, 2 females. Also, several German Shepherd puppies.

The breeder is moving back to their home country soon. let me know if you are interested.

Let me know the details of the puppies

I'm sorry. They have all found homes already this morning.

If I hear of any more, I will post it.

  2. Now I'm guessing they are Bangkaew dogs.... Good thing I didn't buy it. :)

bangkaew are native thai dogs and SUPER friendly and loyal.

are you looking for a dog too? (i think i just saw a post about you looking for kittens? maybe that was someone else)

you're in bkk, right? i know some quality breeders here in korat but it's a bit of a drive. let me know if you're interested and what specific breeds you would like. and i can see what they have.

i'm sure there are good dog breeders in bkk too but i don't personally know any. :( sorry!

Hmmm i guess i dont have real Bangkaew's. They are dogs that are loyal and friendly.. but not to others only to people they know. Otherwise they can bite.

you're right: (from wiki) "Thai Bangkaew Dogs are alert and watchful, protective of home and family. Bangkaew are devoted to their masters but can be aloof with strangers. Agile and active, they are strong swimmers and voracious diggers. They are highly intelligent but can be stubborn and benefit from training. Positive reinforcement methods work best with this breed."

apparently it's just my bangkaew who's overly friendly. she tries to make friends who everyone and everything.

  5. i have 4 kittens (half thai + half american longhair) here in korat if anyone is interested. 500-1000 or donation appreciated (to cover food, expenses)

i also have a 3 month old american longhair all-black male kitten for sale (3000 baht). he's had his first and second vaccinations and will go back on july 10th for his final "kitten" vaccination. he's super sweet. i put an ad up in the classifieds section.

but in response to the original poster - try temples! i know someone already said that too but it's really a great idea so it's worth mentioning again. or just walk around your neighborhood. if you see any particular stores which seem to be feeding multiple cats, look around for kittens. a lot of times, thais will feed / care for cats (to make merit or just because they love animals) and they generally don't get them neutered. so they often have lots of kittens.. which they then end up feeding as well...

most shops / homes like that will be happy to have someone take a cat or two home to care for them.

just be sure you ask someone (at a temple or a shop/ home, etc) before you just pick up a cat and leave) ;)

i agree with previous posters - don't buy from JJ!

i'll have persian kittens in a few months as well if anyone's interested. my persian queen is due about july 24th. so they'll be ready for new homes the end of september.

good luck! and it's great that you're interested in adopting / rescuing. SO many homeless / underfed cats / dogs here in thailand. makes me sad that i can't do more to help them.

(anyone got funding? i'll start a shelter here in korat)

  6. [i think some people are jumping the gun on this one a bit; of course condolences to those directly affected, but to immediately assume the accident is a result of poor driving standards is unfair - for all we know it could have been caused by some other reason like brake failure or swerving to avoid a dog. The driving standards are not good in Thailand, but that doesn't mean that every accident is down to them. Accidents happen unfortunately, and they happen everywhere.

THAI drivers AVOIDING hitting a dog?

    that's hilarious.

  7. Now that you have stated that you passport is 'virgin', go to Vientiane and get a double TR visa for free.

Well this is getting interesting... its not exactly "virgin" since I got about three single entries in penang but nothing in the past 12 months. Does that qualify as virgin?

the first time i went to vientiane for a thai tourist visa, i had one tourist visa from the thai embassy in chicago and one from phnom penh. in between, i had done border runs 4 or 5 times.

the person a the thai embassy in vientiane asked what i was doing in Thailand. I told him that I was dating a Thai man and that we were soon to be married. which was true.

he asked if i was working. i said no. which was true.

he told me he didn't believe that i was working and didn't believe that i had a Thai boyfriend.

i told him i had substantial savings in the US and I offered him bank statements as proof. he did not even look at them.

I gave him my Thai fiancee's phone number and he called and spoke to him for about 5 minutes.

finally he gave me a tourist visa, but he wrote all over the page in my passport (in thai) something to the effect of "i do not believe this woman is not working. i believe she is staying in thailand and working illegally. do NOT give her another visa unless she first goes back to the US for at least 6 months."

    jerk.

after that visa, i went to phnom penh once and had no problem and then was married and have had a thai spouse visa ever since. when i applied for the non-o thai spouse, the clerk (in bangkok) read what the guy from vientiene wrote and laughed a bit but didn't seem to care.

i would never go back to vietiene or send anyone i know there unless i was sure that they had changed their entire staff (which i doubt).

phnom penh was easy both times i went there.

    chok dee na.

  8. yes, title needs to be changed ASAP to to "close in some areas" or something more truthful.

If you need to go to aranyaprathet/poi pet in the near future, i would suggest calling first: 03723-1131

that is the number for thai immigration at poi pet

if they don't answer (sometimes they are very busy), you can try calling immigration for korat province: 0-4437-5139 (in dan kwian) although they don't generally don't seem to know what is going on either. we probably get news faster here on TV than they do at immigration.

  9. Do you write horror stories ??

no. why? because i don't like children? on the contrary, i'm a voluntary extinctionist and i believe that reproducing in these times of economic and environmental crises is egocentric and just plain cruel.

THANKS SO MUCH for your help, everyone. The folks on this forum are so sweet and welcoming. I'm so glad I reached out for a little assistance. I found a place on my own though, so no need for additional "help."

  10. When I told my TG about this post her suggestion was to rent a house next to a Wat, since many Thai people will not live there because of the Ghosts, sounds just like what the OP is looking for

next to a Wat would be ok most of the time i think (i like the sounds of the morning / afternoon chant.. it's relaxing) BUT... then they are likely to have loud Wat fairs... which... although infrequent... would likely drive me a be nuts. (i know what you're thinking... i'm there already. thanks)

  11. I am looking for a house to rent in korat - preferrably in dan kwian or chok chai. near the korat zoo, korat resort and that area would be perfect.

    I need:

    2+ bedrooms, western toilet

    I would also like:

screens on doors/windows, fenced yard (i have dogs)

I hate children and would like a house that is not near any children. thai children tend to be loud and rude and just.. awful (I realize... not all of them are... but 90% of the ones i have met here in korat are and their parents don't "watch" them at all or seem to care what they do)

i had found a house fitting this description (near korat resort) for 4000 baht a month but the people just decided today that they are going to move back into it themselves rather than rent it out. anyhow.. i would like to stay in that price range (2000-4000 baht a month)

i prefer NOT to live in baan ingthan (inthan village) because that is where i am now and the children are just awful.

any leads / help would be greatly appreciated. thanks so much.

  12. The Swedish lady you are talking about is Kirsten...www.travel-to-teach.org

She is a frequent diner at Carsten's and Toom's...Thasadej Bar

As part of the program, you will get free lodgings but I dont think they would accomodate your husband unless he was part of the program. Worth a try though.

    Guemlum

A Swedish run volunteer thing. That could be something like "teach to learn" or "learn to teach". These people have an international website; the leading lady here indeed is Swedish. They have an office in NK close to town. You pay, they arrange a visa, and you can teach at schools. If I can help just ask me. I live close to town.

yep sounds like the place i went through those many years ago.. then it was some guy and his wife... i seemed to be actually a program to make money as i later learned the money didnt actually get to the homes that i stayed in the homestay part... but oh well... good experience... never got a visa either :00 boy was i naive then...

trying to find the number maybe for N. my woman friend...

well, i don't need a visa and i don't want to teach and sounds like this program is a scam anyhow, right? so i think i'll be better off staying away from scam artists. thanks though.

  13. there are more then just mutmee as guest houses... btw, u will need a fall weight jacket there at some point; i left a bag of jackets in some swedish run volunteer teacher's office there about 5 yrs ago :)) ...

to bad i dont have adresses of guys that i visited there, a really nice group that worked here for years and i was at their village... for a fee they would have put u all up and some there had internet already... trying to remember village name... will have to look in past files; they were close by pickup/motocy to nongkhai city...chances are slim but i will look, ask around also (maybe someone here in our group is from nongkhai area)...

btw, who is animal sitting all the beasties if u are there? ...

    bina

    thanks bina. :)

hopefully nu's dad will come pet sit for us. but nothing is certain until nu goes up to the temple after the end of pansa. he's not even sure right now what amphur the temple is in. so i'm not actually sure if it's even in amphur muang. but even if it's not... i think *I* would like to stay in the city. :) and as long as it's not too far.. he can just drive to the temple every day.

anyhow.. internet (that's not an aircard) and western bathroom are musts. everything else we can likely work around. :D

will try to find addresses of the guys that were in the muubaans near to mueng... however, i cannot ask anon because one of the guys is now like in harry potter 'he that shall not be named' as i was a 'mia noi' for a very long time for one guy that is now back there... also have a girlfriend from there but she is in bangkok now and phone numbers for thais change so often ... will try though... she's wonderful and speaks english also i think (spoke fairly good hebrew back then...)... will facebook u the info if i find it... which wat is it in nongkhai?

he doesn't even know the name of the temple. one of his friends who is a monk in amphur nong bun maak (where we used to live... in korat province. before moving here to dan kwian) set him up with this job and we don't know many details. just "wait until after pansa and then go to the temple." any contacts would be much appreciated. :) thanks bina

  14. Try this.

    http://www.thailand-...uest-house.html

wifi in the central room and in some of the rooms. Tel nr and email on the website. Centre of town, close to the river. Quiet as far as I know. So try and call them.

And visit the website of mutmee Nongkhai and call Julian. May be they have internet too.

An appartment with wifi will be hard to find for a few weeks.

    Good luck.

oooh cute place. kind of expensive but really cute. thanks so much for your help!
