  1. My wife has travelled back with me to UK and around europe on many occasions, has many visa stamps, land here and also propert, a business in Thailand as well as company directorship. Getting a visa for her never has been an issue and shouldn't be this time around. We hope to travel at the end of this month, the problem i have identified is whether or not our 5 month old son will need a visa or not to travel with us.

He has just turned 5 months old.

The Visa4uk site allows for infant visa's for children that are 6 months old and above.

So my question is this, will our 5 month old Son who has a thai passport, require a visa, or will he be allowed to travel to UK on my wifes visa.

British passport should have been gotten for him before now but we are where we are and now not enough time to get one for him before we travel.

  2. If you mean the LandRover defender they are a few kicking about. The trouble with the ones I have seen is they have ripped out the original engine and fitted a Toyota into it. At that point I have walked away. Did see a nice looking Discvery the other day for sale and keep meaning to drop in and have a look under the bonnet biggrin.png

Thanks for your reply guys, i really appreciate your help.

Think i read a while back that the Thai army bought a lot of defenders then ended up ripping out the original engines and fitting Jap engines. To be honest, as i am planning to use the landy for trucking up and down hills, a more powerful jap engine might be a benefit.

Any one have any thoughts on this? Do you reckon the 4x4 would still be intact if the engine had been swapped?

New landy made in Thailand would suit perfectly, with a realistic price tag would be a real option, but at the mo, a new car at 3million baht is well out of reach, which is the main reason for looking for a second hander.

  3. I agree the duties are ridiculous, however on old cars, it isn't prohibitive. What's impossible is the personal criteria and I can see how rare it would be for a person to fullfill ( 5 continuous years of B visa , ownership over a year prior, etc etc etc. )

    UPDATE

have spoken to Customs and was told my estimate of between 30,000 and 40,000 baht" seems about right" and value will be based upon what I paid in USA for it. Getting that on paper is another trick. I have just received the new letter with corrected engine number , so will make another trip to Bangkok to finish the application next week or so.

Any updates buddy, how did u get on?

  4. Iv'e been looking around on the various car websites, taladrod.com one2car, and am surprised by the lack of clean Defenders available, there are some available, but as i am looking for something that is a bit newer than 60' or 70's, i am finding it quite difficult to find a clean example.

Can anyone direct me to where i can find a 90's or newer defender?

  5. How did you get on?

My firm in UK used to despatch Oxyfit for sole UK importer, it was used primarilly as a sports treatment for injuries and as a backup when Air products/Boc couldnt deliver in time.

Oxyfit is expensive in the long run, i would advise checking out the phuket hospitals suppliers here in Phuket.

There is 1 i know you could try, head towards the bigh supercheap from Phuket town centreand about 100 metres before the BMW garage on the left, you will see a medi cal bottling plant.

They have a bulk Oxygen storge tank in their yard and fill medical Oxygen for local hospitals.

Sorry no number, but if you follow directions, shouldn't be too difficult to find. If you are still having problems send me a PM, will try narrow it down for you.

    Good luck.

  6. Hi chaps, i'm looking for some pvc glue but having a real problem finding it in Phuket.

Most Suppliers building suppliers etc. don't sell it, and the only glue that i can find that is near suitable is a boating place in Chalong. But even that is the wrong type and simply not strong enough.

Any suggestions where the place to find it? Help would be MUCH appreciated.

    :-)

  7. thanks guys, great suggestions. havent made up my mind yet. unfortunately i dont live close to a big city, so i need to wait or find a netshop that has one.

I am also looking for the Flip camera aswell, i've been on the flip US site (CISCO), and posted email to them asking for suppliers in Thailand, but heard nothing back, a bit RUDE don't u think!

The flip also has a plastic case which is waterproof, and perfect for my requirements:-

Unless i can find an approved reseller over here, i doubt that i'll be able to get them, may end up picking up from UK when i return back for a short trip at the end of the month.

Benjie, where did u pick up your Flip?

  8. Had my modem about 3 months now, and the network has never been great, but now i'm receiving a paltry average of 60kb/s at best, its connecting to a mac new mac mini, and a macbook pro, both independently and at different times, so i guess the wifi network is good, but with this speed, i get less impressed the longer i have it.

Paying 850 bt a month to CAT for the package, would this be 2mb right?

Any suggestions u guys have for getting a better signal would be greatly appreciated, could my modem be faulty?

  9. Im trying to find a container supplier who can supply to Phuket, 1 for use as an office, and 1 needed for storage, any one know of a good company to use? Either long lease or outright sale.

    Thanks

  10. In Phuket Gazette advert section toward rear there has long been a classified with a picture for prefab Thai style or A-frame small buildings.

Thanks, looked in the back though and on the website and there doesn't seem to be anything.

  11. I am looking for a wooden building to use as a reception. In chon buri, i have seen these for sale on the side of the road, but so far struggled to find here. Any ideas as to where to find a supplier in Phuket?

    Thanks

  12. hi alex , i would go for CAT mobile , i have it on my laptop for portability used it for 6 months and its excellent , my new place has the new 10m deal from KPP installed but in your situation i think mobile is the way .

    Cheers CdM

  13. I currently have a pretty crappy web connection in my apartment as i'm in the last apartment in the block on a wireless network. Downloading video takes hours, and email is a right bind to retrieve. Download speed is all over the place, but maxes out at around 30kb/s.

I'd like to get a hard line installed, phone lines are installed into reception, but not connected to apartment. Does any one here have any experience with this?

    Any advice greatly received.

  14. Last time i priced up a new Nuovo at Christmas time/new year, new 135cc Nuovo's were priced at 51k in Pattaya. I just checked at Yam dealer in Patong, and now the same bike is 57500 baht, and thats with wire wheels :)

Any ideas why there's been such a price hike? or alternatively, any ideas where i can still get a new one for for realistic money?

    :D

  15. Hi there, i return back to Thailand on the 17th with my newly acquired multi entry O visa.

I would like to buy a bike & car, as i have plans to stick around for at least the full term of my Visa. I also have signed a tenency agreement for my apartment in Patong, so do have an address for correspondance.

I've been eyeing up a couple of bikes and will need a pickup at some point over the next 3 months, How is the best way to do this with an O visa, is this possible?

    Many thanks

    Alex

  16. My TGF has just told me that the Reds are planning to take over the airport on the 30th.

Not great news, especially as my KLM flight goes on the 1st. If the roads are shut, then fine, but i don't really want to shell out 7455 baht on an internal flight from Uttapao if unnecessary.

I not asking anyone to post their political views, as the thread will end up being closed, but has anyone else hear the same?

    :-(
