  1. Hi, does anybody know for sure if any of the above stores participate in the VAT refund for tourist scheme and would issue a P.P.10 form. I was in the i-beat store in Sakon Nakhon on Sunday but forgot to look.

Reason I ask, I was thinking of buying an i-pad air 32GB wi-fi only model before returning to the UK mid December. Here is my pricing ideas !!

    Using exchange rate 51THB/UK £

    i-pad 32GB UK = £479.00

    i-pad 32GB Thailand 20,400 = £ 400.00

If VAT refund at 7% = 1428 THB saving or £28.00 bringing i-pad down to £372.00

So a saving of one hundred UK pounds, or am I being too greedy and should just settle for the saving of £79.00.

    Regards

  2. Flew with QA many times past two years. Good airline overall but they have a membership system which gives different privileges. A gold member is top which is very nice for them as they can turn up at the airport without a booking and demand a seat. Even if over booked the airline will pull passengers off the flight for gold members. Usually Arabs and/or native Qataris. Otherwise people who fly a hell of a lot with them. Lucky if you ever get gold membership but silver and burgundy are attainable but with fewer privileges.

So.....if the gold member Qatari turns up with his 4 wives and all his kids, any lesser privileged traveller is going to lose out. I saw this happen many times.

Always best to reserve a seat online and checkin online. But as I say. If the gold member shows up your on the next flight.

    Hi,

I'm a Gold card holder with Qatar airways, I can assure you that I'm neither Arab with four wives and kids or a Qatari national (not that there's anything wrong with being either). I'm afraid your knowledge of Qatar Airways Privilege members benefits is sadly lacking. I fly with Qatar Airways quite a lot (probably far more often than yourself) and have never seen what you are describing, but as I'm unaware of all the facts, which I suggest might be the same as yourself, I cannot comment on peoples check-in conversations and their booking. Overbooking of flights is common practice throughout the airline industry not just Qatar Airways.

Here is a couple of direct quotes from Qatar Airways Privilege club website for Gold members benefits.

Priority standby If you are on standby for a flight, you will be given priority if a seat becomes available.

Priority waiting list If your preferred Qatar Airways flight is full, you will be put on a waitlist and given priority if a seat becomes available.

No mention of any guaranteed seat on any flight.

I believe they would pay full fare but they can afford it............

Again I pay for all my own travel and no way could I afford to pay full fares all the time. You should think again before making statements with sweeping generalisations of all gold members.

But getting back to the OP, yes I always find it better to check-in online if possible.

    Best Regards

  3. Ye, I use it all the time I really like it.

I use it both in the UK and when I'm in Nakhon Phanom, only problem in Nakhon Phanom is it's pretty much flat around here and there is only one segment already that I can see.

I suppose I could create my own segments, but not so much fun if you're the only person repeatedly doing the same segment.

I also use garmin connect, endomondo and ritmo rating.

  4. Nok Air had two flights a day from Nakhon Phanom to Don Muang, they often cancel the morning flight with little or no warning. They recently cancelled my up-coming flight with no notice given, if I hadn't been checking who knows when or if they would have informed me.

My mate had his flight cancelled with no notice, they then proceeded to bus the customers to Udon Thani, 3 and half hours away then fly from there.

I find Air Asia to be more reliable and provide a better service on the Nakhon Phanom route, won't touch Nok Air again especially if I have a connecting flight from Swampy.

    Just my two satangs.

  5. Just posted this in one of the other threads about same subject over on the Swampy Forum,

Sorry to be bringing good news.

I arrived earlier tonight at 19.00 hrs 09/09/12 from Doha, although I have a few fast track tickets saved up I entered the first immigration hall I came to, maybe half the booths manned by immigration staff, very little queueing, I ended up being shown to a counter with one person in front of me and was through in less than five minutes.

Then waited maybe another ten minutes tops for my suitcase, breezed through customs and out into the night and on my way. I fail to see how this could be improved upon, maybe I just got lucky, the other four times I have arrived this year have all been of a similar nature.

    Well done Swampy !!

  7. I recently upgraded my 2 year old Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro 13-inch (early 2010 model) to 8GB of memory and a 256 GB Samsung 830 SSD. I have to say I'm impressed - the boot times are <10 seconds and shutdown is instant! I've also added Mountain Lion. The SSD was just amazing - the machine flies now!

    Hi roly,

If it's not too nosey can I ask how much did the upgrade cost you ? Where are you based in Thailand ? Did you do the upgrade yourself or get someone, business/shop to do the install. Thanks for the information, although happy with my MBP at the moment always thinking about improvements.

  8. What are the top 5 places one should visit while in Nakhon Phanom?

Don't forget the Mekong River Cruise boat, leaves from in front of the Indochina market at 17.00hrs. Price fifty baht per person, approximately one hour duration.
