  1. I just got back from the US and I have a spare ipad (16gb wifi) for sale.

It's brand new, plastic shrink wrap is still on the box.

Send me a private message for details if you're interested.

  2. BTS Phya Thai station has a direct connection to Phya Thai SARL Station.

So, if you are at Siam (like you said on your blog), you needn't take the BTS and MRT to get to Makkasan. A 2 station trip north will suffice.

I am surprised you did not figure this out, considering you posted a map on the blog.

Anyone who has driven/walked/sat on a train past phya thai station over the last 2 years knows this.

  3. There are several highways and roads going tot he new airport. The Bangkok-Pattaya motorway (highway no.7) will be widened and offer a connection. Bang-Na Trad highway will have a connection. The elevated highway above Bang-Na Trad highway (with the 'H' shaped pillars) will have a connection. Onnut Road will have a connection. And there will be a few local access (ie. 2 lane) roads as well.

Considering there is only one road and one highway going to Don Muang, this is a huge improvement.

There will be a "high speed" (how fast it actually will be is anybody's guess) going from Makkasan Junction (Asoke Petchburi Intersection) to the airport, and if that is too far for you, there will be a line with several local stops at Phaya Thai, Ramkamhaeng etc. Once again, when this will open is anybody's guess, but I would say 2007 would probably be the latest time.

Finally, as per my knowledge, Don Muang will be used for low cost budget carriers like AirAsia, Valuair and One-2-Go. Domestic flights operated by airlines like THAI and Bangkok Airways will be at the new airport. Thats not too inconvenient as many other countries have secondary airports for their budget carriers.

Hope I managed to clear doubts or misunderstandings anyone had.

  4. Great news but how do I get across the rd at Fortune Tower?

Walk back 2 km to the ped bridge?

Another well thought out service in BKK :o

Did they include public toilets at the stations this time 'round?

You can cross the road at fortune town via the subway station (just like you do at Skytrain stations with the obvious difference being you cross underneath the road instead of above it).

Public toilets are built in the stations but the Americans have advised the MRTA not to open them and not to install any rubbish bins because 'terrorists might want to blow things up'.

  5. I fly between Bangkok and Sydney four times a year and prefer Singapore Airlines for the following reasons:

Its inflight entertainment system is second to none

I get to stop in Changi airport and buy all sorts of discouted crap

It was surprisingly the cheapest (compared to Thai Airways and Qantas/BA which is a bullshit airline anyway).
