  1. My father is coming from the U.S. in November for his first visit to Thailand. I'll be coming down from Chiang Mai to meet him and play golf in and around Bangkok for 5 days or so. Does anyone know anything about booking the golf "packages" that I've seen on the Internet. Is this a better deal than handling the hotels, tee times, transportation, etc. on my own? Thanks fellow golfers for any advice!

  2. TP, I absolutely agree. I would rather smoke MY OWN HAIR than those cigarettes. Perfume and whatnot was ok, though. Don't buy from the first vendor though; the prices will drop substantially as word gets out that you're moving thru the area. And word will get out, very quickly.

  3. We have an outdoor concrete table and bench set which is classic Thai design. The four concrete benches are radiused around the 90cm round table top which is also concrete. The table top has the standard tile checker board inset. The whole set weighs about a million pounds.

We want to replace the table top with one that has a hole for an umbrella. Has anyone seen a shop that sells these concrete tables with an umbrella hole instead of the checkerboard? I'm also shopping for a sturdy, attractive table umbrella that will shield our table from the rain and sun. I suppose a study vinyl would be better than fabric. Where is an umbrella shop when you really need one?

I know I could drill a hole in the middle of my checkboard table top but I don't have the proper tools to core a 50mm concrete hole and it would make the checkerboard ugly and unusable. Drilling is my last resort.

    Thanks for your suggestions!

  4. Thanks so much, Dus and all the rest of you. I've now had a fairly comprehensive exam by Dr. Morgan; Dus, you seem to have been on the mark - she said her first feeling was that it was a thyroid problem - either hypo or hyper; further test to be run for (sorry; sp: endocrine) results. This to be followed by a fasting blood sugar test. Dustoff, I did get your message in time but did not have time to write back my thanks to you! I can vouch for Dr. Morgan's bedside manner and her thoroughness - we discussed everything from my grandparents, to my parents, to me, to things normally considered private. Complete with blood work-up, several days' medication, both topical and oral (for allergy/rash): about 1650. However, I've been advised to only post the true results achieved here. So all I can say is: looks good so far!

    Thanks again!

  5. Thanks, you guys. I feel so cared for! I'm now scheduled with Dr. Morgan, 11:00 tomorrow. I had forgotten to mention in my list of symptoms that I've also developed a very odd sleeping schedule - it almost reads like Narcolepsy - Around noon, my body and mind just totally give way and I MUST sleep for about 2 hours. Totally unable to control it. Then I wake up in the middle of the night. Aargh. It's a bitch getting old, ain't it? I feel better just having so many good recommendations. Also, the eye is about halfway better today. I'll let you know what they say!

  6. Hi again, all,

So, here's what I've got: short-term memory loss, a very itchy rash all over that sometimes becomes small blisters, and (newly, this morning) an incredibly red left eye - it doesn't itch or hurt, but my husband was horrified. I did some WebMD'ing and thought maybe my problem is mold-related, but then I read a huge study on Aspartame (Diet Coke, I drink about 5 a day when I'm trying to be moderate) Does anyone have any advice? I don't really know where to start...And CM Ram is a pricey place to start looking...

  7. I just did it last week, for like the billionth time. Take the (sp?) Crackaporn bus. 10 times better than the other one. It leaves at 7:30-8:00 PM and costs about 630 baht. It's an overnight bus, but very comfy. They stop about 2AM for a food and whatever break, for 20 minutes. They let you off at Udon; don't take a tuk to Nong Kai; there are buses there at the Udon station for 40 baht which will save you a ton. Depending on your budget, I like staying at the Riverside Hotel when I'm rich (800 baht) or, across the street at the RD guesthouse (5-600 baht when I'm poor). They're basically the same, just depends on how fine a finish you want. And it's a good idea, if you're new at this, to latch onto your seatmate and become "visa run buddies"...Just my 2 cents'

  8. Make sure you use Chakrapon (I call 'em crack-a-porn) bus and not the one that starts with a U. C. bus service has always been realible and comfortable; the other one, not so much. For sure.
