  1. So, after searching Google and having another thread posted on this forum...I have another few questions I was hoping the forum could help me out with in Bangkok.

Here are my questions mainly about where places are, because Bangkok is a very large city that I have very limited experience in. I am fairly ignorant when I am in BKK. (Google is my friend, but I have searched and I just want to be 100% sure and some places I could not find)

I am wanting a new passport card and I want to figure out how to do an absentee ballot. Where in the US embassy? I just turned 19 and have never received a Passport card so how much do you think it will cost to get one?

I also want to do some clothes shopping while I am in BKK so what is the best place to get clothing? I already know I am going to MBK. Can anyone point me in the direction of name brand things such as American Eagle and Lacoste? I have had a hard time finding good American Eagle clothing and is there a suggested place for good flip flops, preferably American Eagle ones, haha.

Where is the best place to buy a Macbook Pro with an English Keypad?

Any suggested places to buy an Xbox 360 or other gaming consoles?

Best suggested place to get a blackberry and accessories?

Many thanks for helping me with my many questions :D

  2. Hello,

I have a bank account with Siam Commercial bank and I will be going to Bangkok this weekend or next weekend. I want to bring 80,000 THB with me so I have several questions about that...

Are you able to withdraw that amount straight from the bank? (yes, I know it is unwise to carry that much cash around)

Would I be able to just use my ATM card for my larger purchases and hotel rooms and is there a limit to how much we can spend on the ATM card a day? I know we can only withdraw 10,000 from the ATM per day.

Thanks and please let me know!

  3. Well we want to stay somewhere nice because we will be there several nights and we want to spend up to 5,000THB.

Any suggested accommodations? I want to buy a Macbook Pro in BKK because I do not want to wait for it to be shipped as I need it ASAP for school and my PC is pretty slow.

Also, it is suggested to make a reservation before going to BKK or would it be okay just finding a place when we get there? It is not planning ahead but I assume we should be able to find a hotel and if not I have several friends with large houses in BKK.

  4. I am looking for some advice on a place to stay and several other places...

Me and other guys from school are going to BKK for a short vacation and I am wondering what some fairly inexpensive (5000 THB or less a night) hotels are that are located close to most of the things in Bangkok like MBK and the other Malls. We looked at Emporium Suites, anyone have experience with them? We have found a few on Agoda but we are not sure about them.

Second, what are some good places to sell my laptop and ipod touch? I also am looking to buy one of the new Macbook Pro's so can you point out where an Apple store is?

    Many thanks for any help.

  5. Few quick questions…why do Thai people stare? I assume it is just curiosity but just checking. I am tall (6’2”) and white so does that have anything to do with it? Second, whats up with the old creepy guys dating girls around my age? (18-25)? Its weird lol

  6. I am leaving for Thailand August 3rd and am bring a lot of clothing because I will be there for a while doing study abroad (over 1 year)...

Most likely I will need new shoes and clothing at some point lol :)

Well, I have heard it may be harder to get clothing depending on your size.

I dont know if size 12-13 shoes are available...are they?

And I am 6'2" and I have broad shoulders and am of average weight...any clothing that would fit then? lol, let me know.

EDIT - btw, please keep comments on original post.

  7. I did not read all of the posts, but regardless, here is my opinion on reputation. I am basing all of this on personal experience from other forums.

First, reputation is a terrible, terrible, terrible system. It basically equates to nothing except for people "whore-ing" themselves out and begging for more reputation or they may make several new accounts, hide behind a proxy, and vote their rep up. Believe me, it happens.

Second, people do rep unfairly and if negative rep is involved, they will generally severely abuse it and do a negative rep on any post of a person they do not like.

Third, people who have rep may sometimes develop a god complex and may think, "Well, I have a high rep, who da man!?!?!?"

Rep should always be left out of forums. When old people use sarcasm, it will be plus rep from old people even though the post was completely unhelpful but they like it because somebody was targeted in it. :)

    Rep is stooooooooouuuuuupppiiiddd.

  8. So, I am leaving for Thailand on the 3rd and I will be on a 25+ hour flight. I have loaded my ipod with music and movies but I also want some reading material. I am probably going to want to read a sort of "guide" for what to do when I get there and dangers, cautions, do's and dont's etc. If you can suggest any that would be great. This is the first time I am visiting Thailand (study abroad) so hopefully it will be fun.

  9. I have a 25 hour flight coming up. What is the best natural way to avoid jetlag? Also, does anyone have any experience with Delta planes first class? I will leave Tampa arrive in Atlanta leave for tokyo and then tokyo to bangkok. Any advice? Lol. Also, it says I arrive there 11 pm...is that rughly 10 am in thailand? Excuse my spelling btw...on phone lol thanks

The second question first. Normally, times on tickets refer to local time. So if your itinerary says your flight arrives at 11pm, that's 11pm Bangkok time.

As for jet lag, it all depends. Everyone is different and you just have to figure out what works for you. For years, I couldn't sleep in/on any moving vehicle. I tried every over the counter sleeping pill there was and nothing allowed me to sleep, just be really tired. As a result I attempted to get as much sleep before my flights as possible expecting to stay awake during the entire flight.

Finally, someone introduced me to Ambien. For the first time I was able to sleep on planes. Those 14 hour transits went by much faster and I arrived in much better shape. So my advice to you is sleep as much on the plane.

When you arrive in Japan, if you have enough of a layover, take a shower. I do this every time and it really helps me unwind after the long flight.

Then when you arrive, get on the local time as soon as possible. No matter how tired you are, force yourself to stay awake until a proper bedtime. It helps if you have something to do.

My wife takes the different approach of sleeping when she is tired and it takes her more than a week to get adjusted to the new timezone, I'm usually good after the first night.

This is what my itinerary looks like...

    Tampa (TPA) 11:10am -03Aug, Tue

    Atlanta (ATL) 12:44pm -03Aug, Tue

    Atlanta (ATL)01:40pm -03Aug, Tue

    Tokyo Narita (NRT)04:45pm -04Aug, Wed

    Tokyo Narita (NRT)06:35pm -04Aug, Wed

    Bangkok (BKK)11:20pm -04Aug, Wed

So would I be arriving in Thailand 11:20 P.M. my time? Its confusing to me, lol.

Also, I am doing coach on the two shorter plane rides. 1st class only on Atlanta to Tokyo.
