  1. There used to be a second hand book shop further down from the Emporium just pass Soi 26 - I think...don't know whether it's still there.

    Sound like Dasa Book Cafe

  2. pretty much anyone can get on and attach any additional place with their description as well. To reiterate, it will no longer be his map, it will be public

    Actually, I don't think that's true.

If Greenside choose to, his map will only be editable by himself. And I think it's already the case, even logged in my Google account, I can consult but I can't edit his map.

    --edit--

And thanks to Greenside for his very informative and useful map. Hope you'll keep updating it.

  3. I'm in Penang (Georgetown) right now.

Came last week from Hat Yai. The train leave Hat Yai at 7:00 AM, it's a nice 6 hours trip to Butterworth. The border crossing is very straightforward : You step out on the platform, go through the Thai immigration, Malaysian immigration, back to the platform to board your train.

From the Butterworth railway station, you follow the covered footway to the ferry terminal (there is signpost), it's about a 200 meters walk. Ferry leaves every 15 minutes, the crossing take 15 minutes and leave you very close from the city center (basically at the end of Chulia Street). The fare is 1.20 MYR / ~ 12 Baht (The crossing the other way around from Georgetown to Butterworth is free)

From Hua Hin to Hat Yai, I would go by bus / minibus, faster and cheaper.

  4. I believe GoDaddy and Dreamhost are two of the most used and renowned U.S web-host providers.

I've been using GoDaddy for a few years when I needed U.S based web servers, they are cheap and reliable.

I would recommend using one of them because there is hundreds of thousands of websites using theirs services, and the day you'll need some help, you'll easily find bunches of peoples able to answer your questions and assist you on any webmaster forum. For such a small website (~ 1000 U.V a month) their basics packages would be more than sufficient.

They also handle domain name registration if you need to, but if you have a good experience and are confortable with Namecheap, no need to change, the webhosting part and the domain name part don't need to be handled by the same company.

I've been using 1&1 for an European website (I don't know about theirs U.S infrastructures and services.) I haven't been really impressed with the tools and admin panel provided. The web server per se was reliable though.

  5. Hi,

My double entry tourist visa has been mistakenly stamped "Used" by the immigration officer when I used the first entry at the Cambodian/Thai border.

I asked the officer about it, he told me he was sorry, stroke the stamp with a red pen and write something in Thai (I don't know what) in my passport. And he seemed quite annoyed, like he wasn't sure the corrections he was making would be enough to undo his mistake...

I was wondering if this ever happened to one of you and if it could get me some troubles when I try to use the 2nd entry ?

I heard that immigration officers have been known to be sometime fussy about visas, do you think I should try to check and sort things out at the immigration office while still in Bangkok ?

Here is a photo of my visa, if anyone could tell me what is written in Thai and could give me some advices, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.
