  1. I'm 28 and I live here on slightly less than you're suggesting and I'm in the center of Bangkok. I also don't go out drinking or partying much and because of that I find it quite easy to live here. As far as getting bored if you don't party, I wouldn't listen to any of that non-sense. I find between studying Thai, doing photography, practicing Muay Thai, and traveling around Thailand that I'm never bored here. Even traveling here is quite cheap if you learn to do things the Thai way, which is taking buses and/or mini-vans. All that said, after 4 years here I'm now beginning to want more money because I'm thinking about upgrading. Your 49,000 baht will easily be enough but just be sure to consider your future and that you probably will want more money in the future.

Also, I believe another poster mentioned that the exchange rate can change and that can really bite you in the ass (or really benefit you). I haven't read all of the posts but it sounds to me like you've never been here before. If that's the case you really need to travel here and see if you really want to live here. There's a lot of good here, but not everything is perfect. Good luck!

  2. Unless you do private training you won't find a 100% English training experience. However, most place with have at least one trainer or owner who speaks very good English. Personally I don't find the English to be very important as much of what you learn is through modeling, repetition, and sparring. In Bangkok I know Jitti Gym on Ratchadaphisek has some decent English speakers and Fighting Spirit Gym in Silom area has one trainer who has a British girlfriend and is owned by an Aussie. I would recommend both of these gyms to someone who is new to Muay Thai.

My advice to you is if you're in Bangkok now just try out a few gyms for 1 or 2 days and don't commit to any of them until you're sure about the place. I think finding a gym/trainer that you click with is far more important than English when considering a gym. Good luck!

  3. I came hear 2 years ago, 24, reasonably attractive, and with no income. You can find good girls just fine. I've done it, as have many of my friends. Don't look in gogo bars. Make friends with Thai guys as well as Thai women. Everyone I know who has found a good girl has done it because they tried to be friends with Thai people instead of walking around hunting down their women.

Just keep your wits about as there are lots of women who are just looking for a pay check. Theres also lots of girls who have their paychecks who are looking for a young guy to have fun with. Not exactly a good girl by my definition, but good fun and won't be trying to rob or scam you. Good luck.

post like this smell to high heaven!

if you no income how do you live.all your friends are reasonably attractive?   boys anywhere with no income are a hot commodity i hear.................lol.

Had no income mate. I had money I brought with me, but not much. I then got a job and have income now. And yes, all of my friends are young and reasonably attractive. Not super stars, just reasonably attractive. I.e. Young, not fat, well groomed, dress appropriately.
