  1. Last December when I wanted to build 2 custom(40,000 baht)desktop computers, I sent emails

to 6 different computer suppliers listed in the Thai Visa forum. Two sent back a copy of

their price lists, 3 never responded and only InvadeIT showed a interest in getting my business.

Their responses are quick, knowledgeable, and more importantly...accurate. Don't waste your

time and contact them. See how many Thai Visa members highly recommend this firm. Never had

a day of 'buyers remorse' getting my system from them and the fact they are in Hua Hin is not

    a problem.

    Hope this helps.

  2. I copy a lot of RAR files from several music sites using this program...............

'Mirror Creator'. it has several different download options and whoever you

send the files to can choose which one works best for them.

    http://www.mirrorcreator.com/

if you register, there are more file hosts to choose from. I've used this program

for several years and never had a problem.

don't know how it would work in China though.

    good luck

  3. just a follow up to what happened............

on Friday Dec 14 I sent emails to 4 stores requesting price and delivery

for two new-build desktop systems I wanted to buy........

    They were:

Jedicool http://www.jedicool.com/ ....................never had any response or reply from them

TK Com http://www.tkcom99.com/.........never had any response or reply from them

Compute & More http://www.computeandmore.com/ had a quick reply but they just 'copied

& pasted' a few prices from their pricelist

    with no other information included.....

Invadeit.th http://www.invadeit.co.th/.......had a very quick response from Thomas Skyum

acknowledging my request and that he would give

me a quote on Monday which he promptly did. we

have also had other correspondence regarding the

availability or compatability of my requested parts list

and have settled on a final components list.

A friend and I were each going to buy the new same desktop system with a total value of over 90,000 baht.

I just couldn't believe the indifference shown by most Thai computer shops I tried to contact or visited in person.

Invadeit.th was the only real company that took an interest in obtaining my business. anybody who has

wanted to do a new build desktop system outside of Bangkok knows how difficult it is to accomplish.....

such as the afternoon I wasted talking to several "computer experts" at Tukcom in Pattaya. So my advise

is to either do a 'day trip' to one of the IT Malls in Bangkok or just go right to Invadeit.th and get what you

want and more importantly......how you want it!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks

    Gordon

  4. A friend and I want to create 2 new identical kick-ass computer

    systems.

Can you recommend any particular shop other than what is

listed in the Thai Visa Internet Forum? Or are there some stores

on the Forum list that you have dealt with in the past and can

    recommend?

We both live in Pattaya and Tukcom wasn't much help as some

dealers didn't stock or have access to my requested brand name

    components.

If I did a 'day trip' to Bangkok, would Pantip Plaza be the place to

go or one of the other IT centers? The Thai Visa forum seems to

only list stores located in Pantip or Invadeit.th

    Thanks

    Gordon

  5. sometimes when i'm in Bangkok, I just buy a ticket to the end of the line

on one of those river taxis that are so plentiful. a nice, relaxed way to

see the river life and get away from the traffic. it's not expensive and

you can get off an on as you wish along the river.

  6. I tried a few months ago to find these same speakers and had no luck.

sorry Kjetil but I did try Tuckom and had not luck there either. asked at

a couple of stores and on the 5th floor they even checked their Logitech

price list and couldn't find that model listed.

don't know what's going on as they are rated as excellent speakers for

the money and haven't seen any replacement if they've been discontinued.

bought my second choice "Creative" T6160 5.1 system @ 2,395 baht.

they are good speakers but still would have preferred to get the Logitech.

most stores seemed to offer brands I've never heard of before but they

    were selling them very cheaply.

good luck and i'll keep a eye on this forum to see how you made out.

  7. I too have been looking for this model of SSD drive. thanks for the

    input "howto".........

would there be any problems with customs, post office, etc. if I bought

this unit from outside Thailand??? Of course, I do expect to pay the Thai

    7% VAT if required.

any suggestions who is the best vendor to buy this hard drive that ships to

    Thailand besides Amazon???

    Thanks

I'll post more details when I find them

  8. quite an old thread but still valid. Jams are on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, usually starting at around 10 pm. Depends on how many musicians show.

Have fun guys, I'll be back there once I can walk again.

thanks for the info......looks like the place to be

  9. thanks everybody for your replies..............

I think i'll buy 2 small bottles (hopefully they are sturdier than a large one) and ship them inside

an aluminum case I have been using to keep my computer stuff in. I'll buy them at a 7-11 store

so I can show a receipt if the Canadian customs people want to make an issue of it.

    thanks again............

  10. Leaving for a trip back to Canada and I want to take a large bottle of SangSom Rum with me.

Can I take a bottle I purchased at my local market through the airport or will it be confiscated during

the security checks? Can I buy it at the duty free shops at Suvarnabhumi to save myself any problems?

If not SangSom, do they sell Mehkong whiskey at the airport? Saw some Mehkong in a fancy new box at

    the grocery store recently.....

    Thank You

  11. Moving back to Canada from Pattaya approx. Oct 15/2011 and have 2 plastic bins of personal

belongings, housewares, souvenirs, etc. that I would like to send back too. When they arrive

in Vancouver is not a high priority as long as I will receive them eventually. The bin sizes are

    as follows:

    Length 25" - 63 cm.

    Width 17" - 43 cm

    Height 13" - 34 cm

Is sending these type of containers wrapped with a couple of miles of duct tape a secure way of

shipping or is there a better way?

should I use another type of container for this or combine the two bins and ship one larger one?

Could anyone recommend a logistics/shipping company that could pick the containers up at my

condo here in Pattaya and take care of all the paperwork, etc.?

Lastly, are there any "do's & dont's" I should be aware of in doing this?

    Thanks for all your help

    Gordon

  12. Sometimes finding the music you like can be a real problem here in Thailand if your not into

    the "top 40" tunes.

I've been using 'blogspots' to find and download the music I enjoy for the past few years.

for example: I'm a fan of blues music and get a lot of my music from here.................

http://thebluescolle...e.blogspot.com/ this site also leads me to other Blues blogspots too.

if you want to find some 50's or 60's style music, you might be able to find it here:

    http://musicaggregator.blogspot.com/

good luck with your search and keep on rockin'!!!!!!

  13. A couple of my friends are arriving in Pattaya for a couple of weeks around the time the upcoming

    Thai elections are being held.

Has there been any "official" notice issued about when the bars will be closed and for how long?

I was in Bangkok a few years ago during an election and everything was closed for two days....

couldn't even buy a beer in a restaurant.

    thanks

  14. My Type "O" non-immigrant retirement visa expires on Sept. 06/2011

I expect to leave Thailand for several months around Oct 15/2011 with a unknown

return date which means a 30 day extension is not a option (or is it?).

Is there any way that I can get any type of extension to my current visa without having to

leave the country for a visa run or is my best option just to renew the "retirement visa"

for another year and loose the months that I am away from Thailand?

do the Thai Immigration officials consider a retirement visa has "expired" if I was away for

say 6 months or more and didn't use it or is it good until the date shown on the visa????

something like a 60 or 90 day extension to my current visa would be preferred but after

living here in Pattaya for so long, i'm not really expecting that to happen.

so any advice in extending my visa for another 6 or 7 weeks would be appreciated. I went

to the Jomtien Immigration Dept today about this and even though they were very 'nice',

sadly they weren't much help.......as soon as they heard the word 'extension' they just

focused on extending my retirement visa and nothing else.

if anybody knows, the Thai Visa people do!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks
