I see posts all too often about how it's becoming too expensive but I came across this today..

A guy was sent a 100 Euro note in Venezuela.. Dollars and Euros are in such short supply in Venezuela that their value has become amazing. Combined with the heavy government control on prices it is crazy how far that money will go.. He decided to splurge and live like a king for a month. He put an ad on craigslist to sell the 100 Euro note and this is what he got in Bolivars:

So what did his 100 Euros (about 115 Dollars) get him in Venezuela?

- An apartment for an entire month $13.70

- A night at five star a luxury hotel $9.93

- A plane ticket to visit another area of Venezuela $9.00

- The lease of a restored 1956 Cadillac to drive back $3.40

- 34 crates (238 bottles) of bear $12.34

- Three grams of Cocaine $5.72

- Twenty Grams of Weed $8.00

- Dinner at five top rated restaurants $10.26 (that's for all five meals and drinks combined)

- two hour massages and acupuncture at the finest parlor in town $2.86 (went three times)

- Filled the tank of 32 cars (everyone in his building) $3.00 (gas is under a penny a gallon)

And now to consider the cons.. crime.. well if you watch the news in Thailand.. it's full of Crime and 45 minutes of every 60 is filled with who stole what and how with endless videos. So I think that's the same.

What security issues? Just stay away from the mafias and in a tourist location, you're fine.

If you want a tourist visa, she has to show a steady job and income (steady income for a lot of months) and property deeds to show she will indeed return afterwards.

Personal experience.. someone with 10 acres of land, a 20 room guest house and a job as a banker, had no trouble getting a tourist visa.. in fact they got it for 10 years right from the beginning in 2008.

But a friend who wanted to take his bargirl friend along was denied. They asked her why her income in her bank was erratic.. why so little this month and so much this month.. turned down for moral turpitude.

So your experience may vary.

I'd go to Singapore. Reasonable climate, good health care, not too far from angeles, bangkok, ho chi min when I want some fun.

Dealt with it multiple times. Everytime even with tracking numbers, mail never arrived and mysteriously vanished.

The only mail that has gotten through to me was DHL. And even they left it at a neighbor's next door rather than getting my signature.

The top picture is an Indo-Chinese Rat snake, one of the most frequently seen snakes in Thailand and harmless unless you are a frog, rat, mouse etc.

The second picture is a Copperhead Racer also known as a Radiated Rat Snake, again harmless but it will strike repeatedly if frightened or cornered, that can be very scary!!

The biggest problem with Thailand is you're seen as a walking ATM from bar girls to banks to those who change a tire and to those who sell street side bbq.

10 baht for thai, 30 baht for farang.

Go out alone, drink a beer, you're called a cheap charlie.

Go out with thais, and you're expected to pay for everything.. you're the farang.

Try explaining splitting the check and they say I no like you.

The biggest problem is hoops of immigration. Every respectable country, even developing countries such as Philippines, Singapore have residency programs where if you qualify, you can stay for ever. Thailand's priviledge gives you a 1 year visa at the most.

It's also the reason Thai's in the USA feel more at home in USA than in Thailand. I've heard it myself, do you want to go back to Thailand? Why? I happy here. I get food stamp, obamacare, free phone, free make room hot. Only farang like go for cheap sex. Up to them. I stay here. I want my family come here.

As a tourist you can't work anyways, so your income from elsewhere in the world while you're not a US resident doesn't matter. I know a Greek guy who rents his house in Greece, gets money and lives here in the US as an unemployed Retiree and has no need to pay taxes.

Your IRS return is not based on how long you stay in the United States. It is based on if you make more than $10500 USD while in the United States or are you a U.S. Citizen living overseas that made $10500 USD or equivalent?

It's never been a problem for me.. I don't know why you're so scared about it.. if you have a US green card or citizenship just file your taxes.
