  1. Nicotine is certainly not carcinogenic and is only toxic if you take too much of it. If you take too much water you can die of water intoxification too.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_intoxication

Misinformation at its finest as usual in here

    E-cigs are still toxic:
    http://www.m.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/news/20150121/high-levels-of-cancer-linked-chemical-in-e-cigarette-vapor-study-finds

Nicotine is a CNS toxin and carcinogenic. Ganja is not a toxin, and is an anti-carcinogenic.

O-vape pins with THC is the safest drug in the world. Safer than aspirin, tobbaco (any form, including patches), alcohol and all prescription drugs.
  2. The hound from hell said no such thing I believe he said this is drug/binge/alcohol related.

Well there are almost 400 crackpot theories on this website and the simplest one, that they went out on the binge and died as a result is now taking shape. Thai media are reporting that multiple drugs were found in the girls bodies. You know the Thais they can't keep anything secret. So I know you all will still be spouting the "usual" until the Canadians have done an independent autopsy but as the hound said this one is going to be drug/alcohol misadventure. There is also footage of a guy (Thais are saying Portuguese) who apparently helped them get back to their hotel. Another twist.

Or it could be utter bol**cks. You figure it out.

  3. EDIT out other earlier posts.

You say ESPN licenced the fees to ASN - ok. Who licenced it to the free-to-air channels? The free-to-air channels licenced(?) it to True to just relay it. All this for the Champions League. With EURO 2012 Grammy licenced the broadcast to the free-to-air channels who have an agreement with True. Grammy instructed the F-T-A channels to block their normal feed to True & saying that EUFA disallowed the True feed is simply not true. Grammy didn't ask UEFA about a relay to True (they wouldn't say what they asked) and they forced the F-T-A channels to break their agreement with True.

What next? Soaps & talk shows being blocked because of another arrogant company - or the same one - demanding fees for a relay that has no advert benefit to True.

True had no obligation to pay fees to Grammy. I can't help wondering if the anti-True attitude is colouring many of the responses to this thread.

Grammy licensed UEFA content to the free to air stations, in limited markets, for their free to air use.

FOR A FEE... a revenue sharing deal.

It did not licence it as an automatic pass through to Truevisions for profit satellite broadcast.

This is the point. There is NO automatic pass through license unless specifically stipulated by contract.

They need not make deals for their competitors benefit. So they did NOT.

Both Grammy and UEFA contract details apply.

Makes no difference if Grammy asked UEFA or not, True knew Grammy had the rights

and it was up to True to make a deal early enough with Grammy.

Just as True licensed content FROM the terrestrial stations, for it's customers,

it had NOT generally cross licensed TRUE CONTENT back to those terrestrial stations.

That would be a separate contract for content.

The bottom line Grammy licensed for it's own GMM Satellite Distribution, and limited terrestrial use ONLY,

and not for it's competitor True to get it, unless TRUE paid an access fee, or revenue sharing deal.

True balked at paying, maybe figuring to leverage it for free later. They obviously have lost that bet.

UEFA maintains some rights to the usage of their content.

True has none because they didn't BUY ANY RIGHTS.

"True has no obligation to pay",

but then Grammy has no obligation to GIVE True it's licensed content.

It makes no difference how popular the content potentially is, arrogance is not a valid issue,

they OWN the RIGHTS. They can do as they wish with them, within the UEFA contract stipulations.

As to ESPN and ASN, and other sports stations, they often make cross market deals for exclusive content,

but almost never in the same market place unless the content licensor stipulates this is a must.

This means only one production team, but an expanded market, cash income, and viewer base for the

    PRODUCING company.

Each deal is done individually, not as an automatic gimme.

Sorry but you are wrong. This has nothing to do with GMM and True or the rights that GMM bought. This has everything to do with the deal that is in place between the FTA channels and True for the pass through of the FTA channels onto the True system. The way it is in most countries around the world is that if you have a pass through of FTA channels into a cable or satellite system then the content of the FTA channels cannot be altered by either party. This is how NBTC envision it as well but as they have said there is a loophole exploited by GMM that clearly have not allowed NBTC to penalise either the FTA channels or GMM for tampering with the signal.

That is what this is all about and nothing more.

  4. In the UK the upload feeds of FTA channels to 28deg east are nothing to do with sky TV - like I said they simply provide them as a convcenience to customers in fact they may even be obligated to do so as part of their licence, anyone can throw up a dish and use a standard FTA Sat reciever to tune in these FTA transponders - there are about 120 in the UK alone including all the BBC ITV CH4-5 News channels etc, if I knew the name of the satelite true use I could check it

  5. Condolences to the families -heartbreaking.

If you are going to speculate at least take into consideration the salient point.

    1. why didn't they call for help or exit the room in search of help

    a. They were taking something illegal and were to scared to.

    b. There was some sort of paralysis involved

Cyanosis, bleeding gums, vomiting and lesions could point to:

    a. Drug overdose

    b. Lethal snake bite (paralysis involved)

Pure speculation backed up by a little research.

Again my heart goes out to the family in question.

What drug over dose causes lessions. Maybe if doing meth chronically over a long period of time. Snake bite might be easier to ID at bite site and both get bit and go back to their room and die without seeking help. Not likely and really inconsistent with facts and human nature.

Arsenic or other poisons can kill quickly if large dose. Delayed onset give them enough time to get back to room. Probably seemed like food poisoning at onset. The victims would initially puke and/or diarrhea and possibly garlic taste consistent with acute food poisoning. Stomach cramps and sweating set in and, if high enough dose, could go into shock, seizures kidney failure and die quickly. Lesions are consistent with acute as is cyanosis and bleeding gums for accrue high dose poisoning.

Not aware of any narcotics that would cause all of these symptoms in an acute application so assuming they were chronic drug users is more irresponsible than assuming the obvious which would be what any normal investigator would begin with as a differential diagnosis.

Thanks -you clearly know a lot more than me -as I said I just did some research. Actually if plausible I was thinking of a snake in the room. The key point is still why didn't they call for help. To me that really points to them doing something they should not have been plus the fact that they had just been out and come back to their rooms. But if you say that lesions are not consistent with drug overdose and more like poisoning then my speculation doesn't hold up unless someone sold them something as drugs which was in fact poison -but then why only two people and not more? Anyway thanks for the info and again very sorry to see this happen to two young people.

There is an insecticide called Methomyl that produces those type of symptoms and it is very commonly used in Thailand.

  6. I can't believe the comments I am reading. Too much sun and Chang for sure.

This has nothing to do with TrueVisions. This is all about Grammy and its partners either trying to sell set top boxes or extort a large fee from True for the rights. True according to the NBTC "must carry" the matches as it is in their contractual obligation with the airing of terrestrial TV stations. This is correct. But Grammy are not allowing them access to the signal based on a complete load of B....... that UEFA need to approve the airing. They do not- it is a load of nonsense. Grammy is the full rights holder in Thailand for both terrestrial and satellite otherwise how could they air through their own boxes??? Also the claim to have just done a deal with DTV And Cable Holding -so did they seek approval for that from UEFA -not likely.

The NBTC Vice Chairman said "True is using legal loopholes to hold consumers hostage for business gains". What planet is this guy from. There is no business gain to True if you logically think about it and it is Grammy holding the consumers hostage.

Grammy cites concerns that the True signal can be received outside of Thailand. True has said it will encrypt the signal. So close that argument. And anyway how many Astro boxes from Malaysia are in the Kingdom-thousands. Its a huge blag by Grammy trying to confuse the issue. There is no issue. The law says True must air the programming and Grammy is stopping it from doing so. NBTC should fine itself for failure to ensure that Grammy gives True the decryption keys.

Get with the programme guys this is not about True airing the Euro in its own right it is about Grammy blocking regular programming on terrestrial channels carried by True.

    Nuff said

Want some cheese with your wine!! GMM has 400 million reasons to sell their set tops! True had the option to share the costs and in True form dropped the ball again!!

True is also holding consumers hostage by making them buy TRUE subscriptions. Oh wait... according to your logic, TVs are holding people hostage by making them buy TVs to watch the game!!

GMM paid 400 million for the rights. They HAVE the right to give ANYONE the finger. If you don't like it, then next time I suggest you start a campaign, raise 400 million baht for the betterment of society, and buy the rights to watch the games yourself. Then you can hand those rights to everyone else. For free.

Actually I agree with -except the current TV law in Thailand (NBTC) say that if you are carrying the terrestrial channels on cable and satellite as a rebroadcast you "must carry" all content. Unfortunately the law makes no proviso in the case of a rights owner encrypting part of the content. I don't believe it has ever happened before in the Kingdom.

As for buying the rights -The reason for all this malarkey is that GMM and their partners paid way to much for the rights and made it an unfathomable situation. And don't get me started on the kickbacks involved here and political and local sports officials involved in this deal.

You are right, it is what it is -so find a way around the cesspool like we always do living in this paradise.

  7. I refuse to buy a box from GMM but in the same time I realize that I with action I loose my matches but that is my problem and not a GMM mistake. True proved to be a company who is only in it for the money ( which is also allowed ) Time to look for another provider and with me I hope many will do the same. Suggestions on alternatives are welcome wai.gif

Name another company and I WILL drop ubc/true and subscribe!

Astro seem to be good enough for me to be honest..

And therein lies the real truth of the matter. Having an Astro box alleviates all the angst of dealing with TV guff in Thailand. You may not get ALL the EPL games but you certainly get the best games and all in HD. Better HD offer overall.

  8. WHY SHOULD I BUY A GRAMMY BOX WHEN IT IS THEY WHO ARE GUILTY OF NOT LETTING ME WATCH THE EUROS BY BLOCKING THE CHANNELS THAT ARE FREE. I HOPE TRUE CAN COUNTER CLAIM FOR THEIR DISHES BEING USED FOR THE GRAMMY BOXES.

WHAT I HOPE WILL HAPPEN THAT DUE TO ALL THIS THE THAI GOVERNMENT MAY OPEN THIS MARKET UP TO OTHER SERVICE PROVIDERS SKY, ESPN, ASTRA !!!!!!!

If they are free then why are you complaining about buying anything?

Perhaps you are confused with how "free" is being used. The rights to the games are not free. GMM paid for them. They have the rights to sell them and they did. They are selling them to the channels listed in return for a share in the commercial revenues. Just because a channel is free to watch doesn't mean that it doesn't cost the content providers money which they make up for in selling air-time to advertisers. (any idea what a 30 second ad costs during the superbowl?)

Why should TRUE get free access to this content if they are not willing to share part of their revenues?

Sorry but you are not understanding this. The Euros are aired on terrestrial TV which is rebroadcast on TrueVisions -True cannot get any advertising revenues because they are only relaying the 3,7,9 etc feed. They are not at liberty to sell as the signal comes straight from the terrestrial station. There is no way for True to make money from this-that is why they did not consider paying the fee.

Only the terrestrial stations benefit from having an extra 4-6 million extra eyeballs from True Visions viewing their ads which is why I said before the big losers here are the sponsors of the Channel 3,7,9 etc Euro programming who are losing the entire expat community and virtually all rich and wealthy people in Thailand

So TRUE doesn't make money by offering content to their PAID subscribers that the customers want? dam_n.. sucks to be them..

The content should be available to True subs but GMM is blocking it. How is that True's fault? Here is another thought what is GMM business model if they are buying satellite and cable rights and then trying to sell them on to their competitor -could only happen in Thailand.

  9. TRUE channels are aired in Cambodia, I know this for sure.

Can you not read-True already said they would encrypt the signal so that it only went out in Thailand. Which is feasible. My facts are crystal clear. I am not complaining I am just trying to remedy pure ignorance.

The ignorance is yours.. True do not know and cannot control who is using a Thai card in Cambodia.. Trues footprint extends beyond thailands borders.

True's business in Cambodia Laos and Vietnam is legitimate-yes it is done through agents but it is controlled-by controlled I mean they know where the cards are going and can therefore encrypt signals to them. To back this up here is a recent press release -True Visions has purchased all media rights in Thailand, Cambodia and Laos for the UEFA Champions League and Europa League from the 2012-13 season through to the 2014-15 campaign. But lets take this a step further. -Thai terrestrial TV channels 3 7 and 9 are also available in Laos and Cambodia. So what's your point?

TRUE channels are aired in Cambodia, I know this for sure. And a TRUE set top box is required. They go through an agent there. Believe what you want. You are wrong. GMM Grammy is set up to do business with their customers. And some folk only want to complain, and not remedy the situation. You should get the facts strait before you whine on the internet.

Can you not read-True already said they would encrypt the signal so that it only went out in Thailand. Which is feasible. My facts are crystal clear. I am not complaining I am just trying to remedy pure ignorance.

No business gain from being able to air EURO 2012... blink.png

Point being that True already have a mature base of paying customers nearly a million I believe. How many new people are going join True just because of the Euros where as GMM are new and trying to sell their boxes. Can you think of any other business gain for True? I guess that is why they are not interested in paying the large sum that GMM are asking -there is no way to financially justify it specially as by rights it should be on their terrestrial feed anyway.

  13. I really don't give a shit who's fault it is I just want the footie on I had a mass walkout last night costing me around 20000 baht

I'd like to just walk in and tell em to shove it but I don't know any alternatives as having every prem game is a must... Anyone can suggest alternatives?

If you run a bar/restaurant. GMM will sell you a box which allows you to show Euro matches to customers. If you are in Pattaya go to Power Buy,Big C even 7/11 and ask. It costs a bit more than the 1,500 baht I paid for my "house" box.

    Is the commentary in English?

The matches are on local Thai TV -all you need is an aerial. Otherwise an Astro Box and card (illegal but widely used)

  15. </quote>Soi Cowboy is a great place to watch-also loads of places around with Astro feeds and if you are tech savvy then an IP cloaker with a Russian HD sopcast feed and BBC 5 live streaming in the background with virtual cable and radio delay to sync the feed</quote>

Jeez, what a load of tosh. All that just to avoid a bit of Thai commentary..!

    Grow a pair.

All these peeps threatening to cancel True, do keep us all updated with how you're getting on watching the Thai soaps all day!

Talking about Euro 2012 on the my thread. I have full platinum HD service and I am very happy thank you. I also have a 100 megabit internet connection and watch BBC in full HD at will. My pair is large enough to figure out ways around most things in Thailand. That is the fun of living here. You shouldn't cut excerpts from threads and then apply a totally different meaning to it. But then you are a cockney git so you are forgiven.

  16. For what it is worth this has nothing to do with TrueVisions other than they do not want to pay Grammy (The Euro rights holders) a large sum of money when by rights they should be getting the feed via local terrestrial TV. This is typical Thailand justice-totally upsidedown. Who is blocking the feed? -3,7 and 9 clearly. Why are they blocking the feed? On the instructions of Grammy the rights holders because True will not pay them extra for something they should already have.

Basically the courts are backing Grammy's bid to squeeze a payment out of True. It's not what you know in Thailand it is who you know.

Strikes me that the biggest losers in all this are the terrestrial TV sponsors. By not having True they have basically cut out the entire upper and middle upper classes in Thailand-all the people with money. If I were a sponsor I would be refusing to pay the terrestrial channels.

Soi Cowboy is a great place to watch-also loads of places around with Astro feeds and if you are tech savvy then an IP cloaker with a Russian HD sopcast feed and BBC 5 live streaming in the background with virtual cable and radio delay to sync the feed :-)

    Happy Hunting.
