Quick aside: For 5 years I lived in New York City in an older apartment building that still had a manually operated elevator. When the building employee maneuvered the elevator to my floor I would get off and then turn to him and say 'Thank you'. Problem was this became so habitual that when I would get off the automated elevator in a modern NYC office building and would turn and say 'Thank you' and the people remaining in the elevator would look at me as a nut-case.

So when I go back to the US, I do things that I habitually do in Thailand and probably don't readjust until it's time to go back again -- like saying 'Kaap maak' at the US grocery store.

A LOT! Too many rules, speed of daily life, people not getting your message anymore (u know what I mean, do you?) AND OF COURSE the chicks! I entered cambodia on dec 23th via Had Lek, came back to muang thai 4 days later. Got another 3 months ( I have Non Immigrant O).

Paid ZERO DOLLAR to cambodian customs when entering Cambodia AND when I checked out !!!!!!!!

In 2002 I had a (thai-)girlfriend from Lopburi who at that time worked as a Go-Go-dancer In Patpong.I fell in love with her and we lived togetther in Bangkok for a couple of years. One day we went to the bank together and I put 3 million Baht in HER bank-account (Fixed deposit for 1 year ), because she got a better interest-rate at that time.

Time went by and when the year was over we went to the bank together again to withdraw the 3 million from HER account in order to put it back in MY account.

When the banklady checked the filled out forms, she asked my girlfriend (NOT KNOWING THAT I COULD UNDERSTAND WHAT WAS SPOKEN):

" Do you really want to give the 3 million back to the FARANG"?

My g/f answered (what is VERY RUDE for a thai (Lady) to say): Don't ask stupid questions and do your job.

But that was her answer, because she did know, you understand Thai!

Sorry, gotta say putting $3,000,000 in a non spouse go-go dancer's name just to get a little better interests is really showing bad judgment. Much worse than spending the money on what one perceived to be a home for your wife and child. Glad it worked out for ya though.

Just curious how much extra interest warranted that risky investment. Probay better risk return ratio on buying US penny stocks.

The extra interest was about 30.000 Baht, BUT at that moment we were together already 5 years! It was MY judgement at that moment and after all it worked out!

Suppose I dated the banklady ( being deputy branch manager!!!) instead her I'd lost all the 3 million FOR SURE!

If you come from first world countries (hate this expression) to Cambodia or Laos by plain, you MUST change planes in Bkk, HKK, KL or Singapore, vice versa. It'll take another three to five years until you can fly directly!

That's a good point. I have been thinking about many of these shootings, hangings, beatings, and you hear about the initial event but almost never hear of any follow up reporting. How many go to jail. How much time did they get. How many buy their way out.

This seems to be happening a little bit too frequently for comfort.

your comments on this thread have shown you are thinking chiefly about yourself and your nest in Bangkok. Others outside have suffered, my family for instance has lost 6 houses in Ayuthaya. I live in Nonthaburi, I have donated money, I have spoken to the people at my condo and given them advice on what to protect (like the outside generator). But the gates have to open to help those already suffering, so that they can start to get some parts of their lives in order. I work in Bangkok, many of my friends (mostly Thai) live here, but we need to share the suffering.

If we don't we might see something like the reds in Bangkok again, and they will be more angry and will want to see people here suffer, so you might see something like the burning of Central World happening again, but bigger.

I really do think this socalled munterhunter has a big problem with himself, since he his not even affected??? Why seems to be very frustrated, should consider going back to xxx country. Hva a nice trip home, bye, bye!

All ROB wants is that the people of Bangkok start thinking and understanding they are not above the rest of the population and need to open the gates to let some water flow through, he is not suggesting completely flooding Bangkok, but by doing it gradually reduce the suffering of those in other places, that are shown on TV every minute of the day. I am sure if you had family in Ayuthaya or Ang Thong or Bangbuathong, you would want Bangkokians to help them to.
