My wife forgot the PIN on her credit card in Italy, she called the bank, answered a few questions and they gave her a temporary number 1234, worked fine.

Refusing a breath test in many countries is an automatic fail. As you have wasted everybody's time why expect any leniency??

Not sure that in and out in 8 minutes is really that good when you consider the additional time that you will spend having to return to the office the following day to collect your passport. Add to the 8 minutes the time taken to travel to/from the office again plus waiting time to collect your passport, and I suspect that in real time you’ve spent considerably longer getting your extension.
I did my retirement extension a couple of weeks ago and was out of my local office (Nakhon Pathom) in about 15 minutes with passport in my pocket duly stamped with permission to stay for another year.
I think that it’s the ‘luck of the draw’. Much depends upon the day of the week, or the time of the day that you go. Not to mention which side of the bed the IO got out of that day .
I just wonder if it is normal practice at other offices to have to return to collect your passport when applying for a retirement extension?
Not in Pathum Thani.

At which office would you be applying for a extension of stay (it is not a visa) based upon retirement.
For Phuket there is a topic on the Phuket forum with a list.
Basic list is a completed TM7 form with a 4 X 6 cm photo attached. Copies of your passport photo page, visa, entry stamp, previous extension stamp (if any) and TM6 departure card.
After that it depends upon what financial proof you are using.
OK thanks, I take a look at the Phuket forum.

Ahhh Venus, allegedly the goddess of love, born in the foam of the Mediterranean sea on the coast of Cyprus . What a beautiful siren, we gave her the name Venus goddess of love, and in return she gave her name to Syphilis, Gonorrhea, and some other sexually transmitted diseases. Hence the name 'Venus,,Venerial.
One night with Venus, a lifetime with Mercury........before the discovery of penicillin.

The rule is, all doors open inwards, except cupboard doors which open outwards.

Yesterday on the BTS, I saw a white, late teenage girl wearing a T shirt that reached her waist, a lightweight jacket, unbuttoned at the front, but covering her behind, and panties. that's it, I had to look twice to make sure they were not short pants. I then looked away in disgust. Where do they get this dress code, from Madonna or Lady Gaga on stage?? (I would happily give this girl money for tattoos and nipple rings to complete her ensemble)
This follows right on the heels of watching 4 Dutch people openly groping each other on a plane from Amsterdam.

I have had both types of extension, and yes retirement is quicker and easier, I have just renewed marriage extension at KhonKaen
I choose marriage extension, because I believe the immigration rules here in Thailand could change at any time
I believe the marriage extension is safer than the retirement, and less likely to be changed, and even if changed;if you already have; you will probably be grandfathered into the new one, on existing terms, it also demonstrates a greater commitment than a retirement extension
I personally feel we are very much tolerated, rather than wanted, by the nation as a whole
In the majority of the rest of the world if married we would have far greater rights than we are granted here in Thailand
There are also totally separate rules for women married to Thai men , which many say is discrimination
Yes I was thinking along the same lines about the marriage visa being safer in the long run, plus I have been married for 34 years.
Thanks to everyone, some food for thought in all of your replys.

I’m a 66 year old Brit, looking at retirement latter this year, and have a few questions,
I don’t see any post’s explaining the procedure for a marriage/retirement visa, but if there are could someone point me towards them?
So which do you think is better, a marriage or retirement visa, I qualify for both, but am leaning towards a marriage visa, for what I’s worth I think it demonstrates a more stable life style.
Must you show proof that the 800K in the bank came from abroad??
I have a Non O visa, valid for 90 days, I make the visa application during the last 30 days, but is there a cut of point before which the application should be made. Will they accept the application 7 days before my Non O visa expires??
Thanks.

Marriage Mr John Arnone does not give you the right to abuse your wife, this was a problem in western society until quite recently, but fortunately a zero tolerance policy has reduced these abuses in the western world. Why you should thing that this is a problem best left to the parties involved is idiotic, its like saying we should leave the problem of slavery in the hands of the slave owners.
I see no evidence that there is a powerful falang lobby calling for changes to Thai law, perhaps Mr Arnone needs a session of attitude adjustment to understand the reality of Thai society.

I find Panama really boring, and though English is not widely spoken its not a problem. I personally like Mexico.

If you apply for a non-o visa based upon marriage to a Thai you will not need any financial proof.
If for retirement you will have to on a old age pension to get the visa.
Must I show proof of a pension , or will having 800 K in a bank for 3 months be OK

I'm am 65 and married, I plan on retiring next year. The visa application is being made in Hull UK.

Sounds like Taksins 1 million ฿ village revolving fund, here the borrowers simply pay the interest every year and the principle gets rolled over into a new debt.
