  1. So your saying the e- visa is just for a 30 day ? which is free at the moment when you pass customs. So if it is just for a 30 day there will be a cost involved that is the real reason for the e-visa $$$$$$$$ I am surprised they were not introduced earlier than 2015. Caps of to Cambodia & the Thais would not want to copy there system to early so not to loose face.

He did not say that they are changing 30 day visa exempt entries. That must be your imagination at work. rolleyes.gif

..... and more imagination than the official who made the announcement without ANY details. smile.png

  2. Remember that any entry can be extended for marriage/child visit at immigration for a period of 60 days without financials. So if you get a single entry O visa for 90 days and extend 60 days and then if needed can start over or exit for a visa exempt and extend that 60 days. There are still options without 400k/40k extensions if required.

Are you suggesting that a single entry O visa is available without evidence of income ?

That is not how the Thai embassy website reads.

  3. Have to go back to UK in two working days time and must get new non-O while in the UK for a week. Have plenty of dosh in Thai and UK banks but:

    * Thai stuff is all done by passbook - no address. I don't get bank statements and web-site statements don't show adresses

    * UK stuff is all online and web-site statements don't show addresses

Practical advice please - can I call into my local Kantaralak Krungsri branch and get a statement with my Thai address on it covering my deposit account that is registered at Bangkok Krungsri, to be received over the counter same or next working day?

Drop the emphasis on addresses - nowhere is this a requirement for a visa application in the UK.

Note the following from the embassy website:-

    1. The Embassy is open for Visa application from Monday - Friday from 09.00 - 12.30 hrs, the last appointment ticket is issued at 12pm. (except for Embassy's public holiday). No appointment is required. It takes 2 working days to process a visa.
    2. Successful applicants can collect their passport and visa from 11.00 - 12.00 hrs., two days after the date of their application. Anyone with the receipt can collect visa on behalf of applicants.
    3. Visa fee must be paid in pound sterling (£) and in cash or postal order only.
    4. The applicant's passport must have at least 6 month validity on the applying date.

Category "O" To visit Thai spouse, children, parents or voluntary job. Category "O" with multiple entries

    Pension earners or Applicants over 50 years of age, following document is required;

    - Pension statement if the applicant is a pension earner, or

    - Proof of income with a minimum of £1,400.00 per month or

    - Thai Spouse visa with a copy of marriage certificate and passport or Thai ID of spouse and (3 months bank statement showing monthly income of more than

£1,400.00 or £16,500 anuually for those who have been issue category O with multiple entries)

i don't think that the Thai embassy is there to "çatch you out" or send you away (a la Thai immigration) if a statement does not have today's date on. If you have reasonable evidence, that satisfies the above requirements, I am sure you will be successful.

Can I call by my base bank Krungsri in Thonglor Bangkok day of flight and get the required statement?

Will HSBC UK hand out statements out over the counter with addresses on them - my prior experience is that they only post them and posting delays can be a working week.

I appreciate any experience members have - obviously I can make the calls myself when the working week starts, but time is running out fast and it would be useful to get some idea in advance. Thank goodness I saw this thread. I could have been well stuffed visiting Hull with only a few days left in the UK based on info that I got two weeks ago that is now out of date.

Typical bluddy Thais - change things overnight with no advance warning. Nobody gives a <removed> for planning here! Love the place and my Thais to bits but sometimes the culture drives you mad!

[sorry - just finished going a second time round the ridiculous merry go round to get my Bangkok condo electricity bill paid direct by the bank (the first failed and neither bank or electricity company will say why). It's a 5 minute online job in the UK: Thailand - a 3 office visit (pay latest bill locally/visit bank/hand in stamped application at electricity head office) and 40 clicks of urban/semi-urban driving.]

    Amazing Thailand w00t.gif

OK, this was back in August but I used HSBC online statements to evidence income. I checked first with Hull and their requirement was for sort code and account number to be displayed. They were not interested in the address - nor should they be, it has no relevance to the financial information.

I would recommend that you call the Thai embassy (presumably London as you are only there for one week) and ask them if the online print will be OK (as it shows bank account details). Talk through any other requirements they may have so you know you can comply when you go there. Because you have the 'dosh' you should not have any difficulty in evidencing the required amounts. If you have cash balances in Thailand take the passbooks etc with you. If you have an income source also take evidence of that - it is all supporting information and should be unnecessary if the online bank statements are acceptable, You have one bite at the cherry so it is perhaps best to take more than you actually need.

    Good Luck.

  5. Happy days for some, a disaster for others.

If they add a criminal record check to the visa application as they do in some countries ( and why wouldn't they ) then some of these "notorious" highly connected thugs wandering about the place playing the part of the Godfather will be barred entry.

    I'm loving it already. drunk.gif

Not sure where you dreamed that one up blether !

This is a simplified system and it works like clockwork for Cambodia (would work even better if e-visas were accepted at every point of entry).

HOWEVER, in Cambodia the e-visa system is only used for one month tourist visas - Thailand is visa exempt in those circumstances.

I cannot imagine that the e-visa system could be used for Non-Imm 'Ó's etc

One thing I always wondered, if you get an e-visa for Cambodia, does that negate the need for them to use a whole page for a sticker?

Yes. You print off two copies of the e-visa and staple into your passport. One is removed on entry, the other on exit.

  6. Sounds to me that Hull have been called into line.

Everybody who has ever used that office knows that it was never the hardest place to get a visa. I think they had been tightening things up, but I guess they were still viewed as too "friendly"...

I sent my Non-Imm O marriage application to Hull a few months ago while in the UK, posted it on Tuesday and passport with visa was back with me on Thursday smile.png

So what will you do in 10/13 months time ?

  7. You've got that all wrong Cardholder, many countries will refuse entry to people with criminal records, irrespective of any rehabilitation law relevant in their home country. Travel by passport is a privilege, not a right. You cannot demand the US gives you entry just because you have served your sentence under the UK Rehabilitation Act. Australia the same.

We'll see how comical you find it when every major air terminal in the World is fitted with E-Gates linked to passports. This is one area of international travel that will not stagnate. As sure as night follows day there will be some magical international agreement drawn up under the guise of prevention of terrorism and access to other countries criminal data bases will become de riguer.

Oh, and a simple click to acknowledge that you have given permission for your record to be checked will be included on all E-applications. China is already getting ancy about people trying to get visas to visit from third countries, they are starting to insist you apply in your own country. There will be a clampdown under that poisonous banner which is..............

"We're doing all this for your passenger safety".

Orwellian? yes.......on the cards? You better believe it.

I will find it comical blether because the SERIOUS criminals will find a way round any system. Such Draconian (or Orwellian) measures only tend to hamper the average punter. Some poor guy who pinched a box of chocolates from Walmart, or the Dutch guy caught with an ounce of wacky backy in 1972, are the ones who will find entry barred whilst the drug lords (and chocolate barons) will no doubt travel freely.

However sophisticated the rest of the world gets, Chong sa ngam border will still look like a wild west frontier post and all bar Jack the Ripper will be assured of a smooth passage over the border.....

Obviously you have never applied for an E-visa for Australia.

Go through the process and you will see that you are asked if you have spent more than 12 months in custody. People being turned back by the US due to their criminal record is a regular occurrence too. China also requests criminal record disclosure before a visa is granted.

These new generation E-Visas linked to passports will soon result in a tightening up at the border points. There's no dreaming about it, computer cross referencing will become far more common at Border Controls in future. Criminal records will start following people across the World.

Criminal records are a side issue. Not a very important one at that - if someone has a passport then they are at liberty to travel. Any previous misdemeanors will have their time or penalties duly served.

    Computer cross-referencing cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

This is Thailand - ever used the Chong sa Ngam border into Thailand ?

  9. So what about the guys who are younger than 50 but married to a Thai?

Do we still have to show any income?

    That's daft.

Sent from my Nexus 4 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Yes - For a Multi entry Non O visa based on marriage you now need to show £16,000 in a UK Current account or an income of £1,400 a month.

Sounds perfectly reasonable - otherwise you are really only a tourist. If you are staying for any length of time then the normal financial rules are perfectly fair.

  11. Why would you need to show this income when a multiple entry is basically the same as a triple entry anyway. You would need to do a Cambodia trip every three months with either of them. You need an 0 visa if you are applying for a retirement visa, marriage visa etc, but if you are just coming here and are happy to leave the country every three months what is point of having to prove you are retired, married etc etc, and why would you need to prove your income when these visas are essentially tourist visas anyway.

So how do I get the other 73 days ? and what if I want to go out of Thailand, say, six times to visit other countries ?

How long you can stay in Thailand on a double Triple tourist Visa
    • On arrival in Thailand granted 60 day stay
    • 30 days extension given at immigration office in Thailand
    • Border Run
    • On arrival in Thailand granted 60 day stay
    • 30 days extension given at immigration office in Thailand
    • Border Run
    • On arrival in Thailand granted 60 day stay
    • 30 days extension given at immigration office in Thailand
    • 7 Days extension given at immigration office in Thailand

Total amount of time given on a Thai triple entry tourist visa can be up to 292 days if used correctly.

  12. If you are not in Thailand and are applying for a visa to enter Thailand, how is it they expect you to already have money in a Thai bank account before you get the visa when Thai banks require you to go there to open it in person first?

Do Thai embassies really expect something that is impossible or are the people posting here incorrect?

Who said "Thai bank account" ?

I have not seen that mentioned on this topic.

UK bank deposits, and UK income to a UK bank account, are what a visa application will be based on. Only extensions require bank balances to be in Thailand.

  13. I see nothing wrong in having to evidence income for the category of visa required. A non-Imm 'O' is invariably a prelude to an extension and the criteria should not differ.

What IS interesting is that download "abb" Evidence required for visa category is no longer available, despite being referred to in

This appears on the London website:-

    Category "O" with multiple entries

    Pension earners or Applicants over 50 years of age, following document is required;

    - Pension statement if the applicant is a pension earner, or
    - Proof of income with a minimum of £1,400.00 per month or
    - Thai Spouse visa with a copy of marriage certificate and passport or Thai ID of spouse and (3 months bank statement showing monthly income of more than
£1,400.00 or £16,500 annually for those who have been issue category O with multiple entries)

I would be interested to see if they qualify the 'pension statement' requirements because a friend sent pension statements'(to Hull) evidencing 28,000 Baht per month and was granted a Non Imm Ó

  14. UK NIC - To get a full pension in years 44, then 30 and now 35

I wish they'd make their minds up. When it was 44 I was in a position where I was considering topping my 29 years up a bit. They reduced it to 29 and I thought, that'll do nicely and shelved the additional contributions thought. Now 35....thanks a bunch, can't really afford to top it up now what with the pound now worth rather less than it was a few years back. Time I actually reach the magic 66 (unless they move that again before I get there) they will probably only be paying pensions to immigrants from the EU!

I will accept an accusation of wearing rose-tinted glasses but I just have this sneaky feeling that they MAY allow credits for someone in your situation (where you are getting closer to the Pension becoming payable).

I base this solely on my conversation with someone in the International Pension Centre (about topping up) and he said don't do anything rash, wait for the final outcome of the bill.

As I said, maybe rose-tinted glasses but I would like to think they might be charitable to those over 60.

I suspect they would gladly accept my additional contributions if I could afford them. Not so certain about them having anything left to pay me when I reach pension age. Still 8 years to go!

I think their credit rating is significantly higher than yours gmac !! :)

  15. I think Chinese food when you consider the regional variations is quite a bit more varied and interesting than Thai food ...

Yes, it IS more varied with more diverse regions. And if you mean interesting as in "live in interesting times", then sometimes Chinese food can be very interesting.

But if I had to choose a cuisine to live on for the rest of my life without possibility to change, then it must be Thai food.]

I could even live off what I find in just one small beanerie 3 minutes walk from my house, it is that good.

Part of the reason is that the Thai food preparation I find in Thailand seems to be consistently better than what I have ever found in China.

You can find a lot of glop in China if you eat there every day.

If I were able to eat at the very finest restaurants in China every day, then maybe I might choose Chinese food.

If I did, then Thai food at a cheap beanerie like the one in my neighborhood would come in a close second.

I guess I just enjoy what they call JiaChangCai, 'everyday food' or 'more common food', rather than Chinese banquet food, most of which I detest.

Thai and Chinese cuisines for me are still first and second, or second and first, or first and second......

So I am happy as a clam in the sand in either of these countries.

    Ever tried Italian ?

    German ?

    Spanish ?

    Mexican.......................................?
