  1. Hi all,

I have a high end double glazed sliding door & window product with manufacturing plant in Cambodia, we export mainly to Australia yet are starting inquiries for sales in Thailand in exotic regions like Phuket with some interest already.

To make this work I will need a Thai registered company to, at a minimum, receive imported goods (& pay relevant taxes & duties) & help with supply of labor for install. I would of course need to come and train for 1st few projects as this is a new & unique product not similar to the conventional window systems.

Further possibilities would be to have sufficient workshop space for storage & glass preparation, greater control of managing projects & even sales,  where all would include further income.

All projects would be high end work & would suite a trade qualified person with planing & management skills that could get a min crew of 3 together as getting install correct is paramount.

I'm sure there are many westerners living there with good skills, Thai wife's (for registering business) & looking for business opportunities outside the normal bars, restaurants & guest houses.

My question is - How do I find the serious ones, are there websites for this outside ThaiVisa? I looked on the business section here & can see its probably not the right place to be looking,

Thanks in advance for serious replies.

    Trevor

  2. Hi all,

As the heading says, Im looking for business advise like the do', dont's & be carefull's, recommandations on lawyer & acconuntants & possible partner in manufacturing.

I'm interested in comments from people who have or had a business in Thailand and more so the ones without a Thai wife/partner. As I will be 100% forgien owned the rules are very different to having 51% or more Thai owned.

Im living in Cambodia now and happy to stay here as its very easy for visa etc. This business is not a reason to live in Thailand yet it is by far the best place to do business in the region with low labour cost (ref. Doing Business by the World Bank) + best infastructure & least corruption. I've looked at Cambodia & the Phillippines and the corruption in the ports alone is enough to NO.

Lawyer & accountant - I understand I need to be carefull who I choose in this profession, I've been recommanded to a lawyer at a high cost & may use him for the lease review and when the scamming starts, yet would I need him for the simple stuff like business registration, import/export licence etc? (business start-up) I found 1 firm in BKK that say they can handle everything and that seems ideal, yet I would rather recommandations.

The business - My product is thermaly insulated aluminium profiles for double & triple glazed sliding glass. Energy saving & minimum frame. This is for the higher end market and sales directed to the western market where its cold or high energy bills like Australia. No sales in Thailand therefore 100% export & 100% forgien owned & 100% legal.

The manufacture business is simply import the materials, store, assemble, manufacture & export.

Partner - Im trying to avoid this at all cost as trust can be very dangerous in any country, yet my challenge is I will need to spend a lot of time abroard either marketing or training manufacture & installation. So I can only imagine what wont get done when im not there, then there is QA and dealing with Gov regulations. How can I deal with this when Im never there. Considering the ponetial profit to be made when sales increase the capital investment is quite small, I can cover this myself yet the best motivation to susceed is often the $$$. I guess Im saying its probaly less then buying a bar and far greater chance of success and profit.

Im not sure how much Im allowed to say here so any interest please PM me, other then that any feedback would be great.

  3. I have developed a product & looking for somewhere &/or someone to store & assemble the profiles. Material would be imported, stored, assembled (with a possibility of light manufacturing if possible) & 100% exported. (I believe if 100% export business can be 100% foreign owned)

Factory floor required would be 250 to 300sq meters & this is where my biggest challenge is as my budget allows a cost of $1 per sq meter per month. I have the machine to assemble and very simple process.

Im currently based in Cambodia & understand the challenges of residing in Thailand hence this post. This is a new product & being in this GFC I don’t expect large sales to begin with although I do have 3 very interested clients in 3 countries.

Enough said, Im interested in all your feedback positive & negative and further questions or interest can be supplied upon request.

  4. Why not do some research into a 3D printing service, I need some prototype plastic profiles made and found only 1 company in Thailand on the net (in English language) in BKK that provides this service. I had a Thai friend call them, sent my drawings to them, another follow up call and never got a reply. So now going to China.

    Just a thought.
