  1. 1 hour ago, Jonathan Swift said:

It's ethnically prejudiced and narrow minded people like you that Thailand doesn't need. I'll help you pack. The guy made a mistake, we don't know the circumstances, but he showed remorse and respect and he paid restitution. If everyone is satisfied then it's none of your business. So take your bigotry and prejudices back home to your own country where you fit right in. Most of the Brits I've met are fine people and certainly better than half the Americans back in the US, which is where I'm from.

I wish you had the time to scold posters like this every day. There are many angry people on the Forum.

  2. I never go into the sea without a life jacket, even in High Season weather. I used to train staff at resorts in the Maldives. I would go snorkeling after classes but never without a life jacket on. Most tourists didn't wear one. They had the "Nothing can happen to me. I'm on holiday!" attitude. But even when the sea is calm there is usually a current running parallel to the island and if you don't turn towards the shore in time because you're admiring the fish and coral beneath you, you can float past the island easily. Only with a life jacket on can you get back via the other side of the island.

  3. I doubt if the kick in the back was more than a nudge with a foot. It wasn't like to kicked a football. The doctor may be milking the incident for malicious reasons. She obviously wasn't injured. I think that the man should not be removed from the country. Watch the Thai News every day - thieves, robbers, murderers, hit-and-run drivers, drunk drivers, etc. They do far worse than this man, but we don't see the same outrage.

  4. A dowry never played a role in my marriage because my wife's an orphan who was working in a noisy factory on the outskirts of Bangkok. Because she has no parents and because she was happy to have a new life a dowry was never even mentioned. But I expect that foreigners will be required to pay quite a lot of money nowadays, especially if a lot of gold is expected. One Baht is around 40,000 Baht now.
