  1. I need some help on how to register my marriage to my Thai gf in England. A friend has informed my wife and I that all we need to do is get our certificates translated into English and then return to Chang Wattana to register.

Another friend has said it has to be completed - after translation - at the British Embassy.

If anyone can shed any light on what I have to do, I would appreciate it.

Also, what is the procedure for taking her back to England?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. I am employed as an ESL Teacher in a private school. I have Non B and WP and report every 90 days.

My question is this: "Can I apply for an extra work permit to work part time in a Language School?" I have read that you are allowed to have more than one work permit but cannot find anyone to confirm this legally.

    Many thanks.

  3. Live near the BTS Line or buy a motorbike.

or just replace gf.. which ever is easiest

Well that was informative and also condescening at the same time. One thing I will not do is change the gf. Hard to believe but she is actually a hard working, intelligent and has helped me out a great deal and after nearly a year of dating I think I have found a good one.

  4. Not sure if the river ferry runs as regularly that far north as it does downtown, but that's an EXCELLENT way to commute.

Would take too long from Sathorn, but I'd recommend hunting near the express stops within say ten hops.

Actually a very relaxing way to unwind, as oppposed to the added stress of other surface transportation in Bangkok.

Ask the neighbors about the flooding just in case that comes up again, didn't touch my area south of Sathorn but I think on the other side they had some pretty bad disruptions.

The ferry does run up to Nonthaburi Pier but it takes around an hour and that is just the ferry.

  5. Are there actually any REAL people who ACTUALLY live in Thailand posting to this forum anymore.

A few months back the OP was ripping into me with his financial advice and tips for living here.

What a crock...snoozer can't even pay his rent.

And PLEASE TELL ME if you were behind in your rent...why weren't you working...or seeking work...rather than wasting your time flaming me on this forum?

Just another particle of the farang detritus layer removed from Thailand...good bye...

thats what i am thinking, here he is on his arse no money yet he says he is taking his wf.and kids with him,he also states he has a grown up family from 40yrs ago,how old his he to go back to work, and it dont end there his ex and kids are following as not to break up the family, what will they live on FRESH AIR.

That was my thought exactly. He is obviously an educated man which should enable him to obtain employment as a teacher. Even Government schools will pay a minimum of 30k a month. But, in all of the posts he does not say how old his children are or indeed how old his ex wife is. If he is indeed well over the 60yr bracket he will only have government handouts to live on and if he is not married the USA or UK or Austraila will not allow his wife to live there. My personal thoughts are he is hoping that some kind hearted expat will throw a few thousand baht at him for the sob story.

  6. I have just received a job offer to teach English in a Tecnical College near Nonthaburi Pier. The starting salary is 38k but only for 10 months. Problem is my gf lives in Sathorn and works at Central World and we would like to get an apt together which will enable both of us to work without a lenghty commute each day. I used to live in Pracha Chuen and had a good apt there but, it is too far for her to commute to work (so she says).

My knowledge of BKK is not that good and have no idea as to commuting times. When I lived in Pracha Chuen, I rarely went into the city as at that time I was single so have no knowledge of commuting times. The nearest MRT was Bang Sue which involved a 10 minute motor cycle taxi ride.

Or, do I stay where I am in Nakhon Pathom and continue working here.

Any constructive help and advice would be appreciated.

  7. First of all, learn to spell. I was going to suggest you try and obtain a TESOL or TEFL certificate so you could perhaps teach English language. But with your level of English and your ability or should I say inability to spell correctly I would not advise it.

You say you were a supermarket manager. In what country? I was a retail manager and senior store manager in the UK for many years and I find it hard to believe that someone with your level of education was actually managing a store. Surely creating staff rotas, P&L accounts, store delivery inventories etc you would have gained a much better command of the English language.

I suggest you pack your bags and return home.

  8. Not had that, but they did sting me for £88 on overweight luggage. I packed the usual 30kg that Emirates allow me only to be told it was 23kg with Etihad. They only charged me for 4kg but at £22.00 per kg.

After complaining about this I did get an upgrade to Emergency exit seats which would have cost me over £100.00.

If you want to get the 30kg allowance, join thier miles club.

  9. I notice the "accident" occurred in the Right hand lane , Thai's are notorious "road hogs" and so how wide the road is ,many insist on driving in the outside lane and no matter how much you flash your headlight or sound your horn they just WILL NOT move to the left so the car at the rear can safely and legally overtake , I have truly lost count of observing them driving in the outside lane then swing to their left to make a left hand turn without even indicating their intentions !!. the "rule of the road" is quite simple ,keep to the left unless overtaking or turning right , this bit of common sense it Totally unknown to the vast majority of Thai drivers.

Sounds like the states except there it is the left lane for fast driving but the idiots still believe it is for them and them alone.

I agree with the above statement. I have driven over 9,000 miles accross 18 states in the USA and lane etiquette is unheard of. Even with my American friends in the car they say "its ok to stay in this lane".

Similair mentality here in Thailand, I stick to a speed that suits the road and traffic situation, much to the annoyance of the locals. Many times I have seen high powered sports cars speeding excessively. It is only a matter of time before some innocents are killed. My condolences to the families.

  10. My breakfast was poisoned on Koh Pan Gan Island the morning the "hosts" knew I was leaving. They were enraged that I had reported that my belongings had been stolen from my bungalow to the police because they said they would have to pay the police a fee. They told me that someone would have to die for my goods being stolen - I thought they were talking about the thief. Poisoning is widely under-reported. Would not be good for tourism. Did they ever find out the cause of the 5 or 6 "mysterious" farang deaths in the same hotel in Chiang Mai? To avoid being poisoned it is always a good idea to not eat specially prepared meals or food. Just pick from the trays of communal food or canned drink. Sadly there is not much respect for human life and poisoning is a lot more common than one would imagine. Why, I don't know?

How do you know it was poisoned.. not questioning if it was or not rather what led you to believe it was.. taste ?

I can not be absolutely sure that I was poisoned - but immediately after eating the meal I felt like I was on deaths door. I thought I was going to die but luckily I managed to recuperate. I guess they did not put enough poison in the meal to kill me if my assumption is correct that they poisoned it. Certainly was enough to nearly kill me. They told me that the owners ex-husband was mafia and could have people killed. They were really pissed off about me reporting the theft to the police. Best not to piss people of here unless you want to end up in a liner.

So why not go to hospital....obtain toxicology reports......report this "crime"

I was taken ill in CM earlier this year, stomach cramps, elevated heart rate, high temperature, shortness of breath....had I been poisoned ? I dont know but I do know I got to hospital where the relevant test were carried out. Turned out I was suffering from the Noro Virus. Probably brought over by me anyway as I had it in England at Christmas.

OMB, I found a staple in my tom yam the other night and complained, I had best lock my doors and employ a security guard because the owner of the restaurant might want to kill me for complaining.....

  11. The more the OP worries that there it will rain during their vacation, the more likely it is it actually will rain during their vacation.

    or

The rain will only actual fall while when you are asleep or when you are in transit between your chosen holiday spots.

    Scientific facts. Both of them.

If you do chose to fly somewhere further afield on the chance of better weather, it will definitely rain more at the new destination.

    or

The rain will only fall during the bits where you are airborne.

    More science!

And remember the old Thai saying 'Umbrellas cheap umbrellas!!'

And also, if you are from England, you should be used to rain. At least here the rain is warm.

  12. Also, any suggestions on places to drink/shop in Bangkok?

Going with a buddy, and our GF's. So not looking to whore. Although our GF's would like to see some 'special' bars, just to see what its like. As well as some 'special' shows that Thailand has to offer.

Also looking to buy some nice fake clothes. Would MBK be the best bet?

Be careful when buying fake clothes.

    a) They can be of dubious quality...

    B) Depending on what country you are flying back to, potentially illegal.

Dont bother with the fake Rolex watches and if gf wants designer handbags, Louis Vitton, Chanel etc.... again be very careful when taking them back home.

If you want to take in some special shows, head to Sukhumvit and mingle with the regulars there, they will point you in the right direction.

  13. I think you seriously need to look at your self. When you start getting involved with a Thai woman you start to gain different responsibilities than of those with your previously western girlfriends. I am fairly sure that had you been in a relationship with this woman for some time, you would have known of the lads situation and any health issues. Or is it just a case of being blinded by a younger beauty and at the time your brain was in another part of your clothing?

My Thai gf has NEVER asked me for money for any of her family and some of them are pretty poor. Occasionally I will help out, but I am not asked too. Her mother will do my laundry and also feed me. Again, no money is ever asked for. But being the nice guy that I am, I do help out with buying groceries etc.

My thoughts to you are this......did you offer a dowry to your wifes parents ? If not, then stop being a selfish tight wad and contribute to the lads treatment. But before you do, make sure his illness is genuine and check if there is any family medical insurance.

Cancer can be aggressive, so take care.

Are you kidding? Thailand 20,000 gun homicides, Malaysia 10. There is something very wrong. My advice get home by 5.30pm and lock your doors. Thailand is a war zone. The statistics don't lie. And the Police are in business with the crooks. If you don't believe me - ask any Thai. People are evil whether the government is yellow or red - and my God the police and crooks don't change a habit of a lifetime because of political parties.

If it is that bad here, why do you stay ?

  15. It does not really matter what country you live in or where you go on holiday. All it takes is one drunken or drugged up or pissed off individual to create a news incident. I lived in a small village in the UK, population of around 9,000. But it made the press when Customs bagged Suffolks largest ever recorded drugs haul of around £9m.

In the two years I lived in the village, there were several cases of arson, many drunken brawls at the weekend after closing time, two of which resulted in deaths. It is not just the larger cities that have lawlessness. I had to call the Police to my home on one occasion and it took them 35 minutes to arrive.

Ok so we do not have the blatant corruption that is plainly obvious in Thailand, but in EVERY Western country (well maybe not Sweeden, Switzerland, Norway and Denmark) the problems are much greater.

The problem will get worse before it gets better.

In 1992, my stepsister and her baby were murdered by her estranged boyfriend. He got "life" and was out in 2010. There is no deterent to any criminal anymore.
