Many thanks Thaiphoon - now booked for KL. Appreciate your quick reply. Just intrigued as to why Penang seems to be a law unto themselves with the 8M Baht requirement but who am I to ask, being a mere mortal with all the correct paperwork, who pays her taxes, social security, actually employs the correct number of Thai staff and has never been on overstay in 23 years of either visiting or living in LOS? (P.S. No need to reply - appreciate the opportunity to vent (or will this be edited :-)?)

  2. Greetings fellow Thai Visa users,

Would like to know if anyone can pass on up-to-date information on the Thai Consulate in Penang.

Are they currently issuing Non-Imm B Multiple 1 Year visas relatively easily?

When I called them last year, they were requiring 8M Baht per application - a bit ludicrous, so I got my visa in Kota Bharu which is now no longer issuing 1 year visas.

Appreciate any feedback as visa run coming up this weekend.

    Thanks in advance.

  3. Sympathy for a serial killer? Definitely...

His logic, intelligence, perfect choice of career and general views on those that he crosses paths with are ones that I find myself agreeing with a lot.

Roll on being dysfunctional, it's an important part of keeping sane.

  4. Yes, I have had some turn up from police stations elsewhere in Phuket, military police and police magazines as well. I paid for one ad 2 years ago when we first opened our office but am savvy now.

All police who come for donations should have the agreement by the local police station to do this. So....

When the next lot turned up - I showed them that I was already advertising and just mentioned I would check with the police in Chalong that they had permission to do this (as they were not accompanied by a local policeman) and would they excuse me a moment. They left saying they would come back. They did not. ... I wonder why?

  5. Unmarried girl in the most Muslim part of Malaysia.

Did you cover your hair?

lol every blooming time i go there i get some sort of hassle, even covering up seems to make no difference...this last time i was groped by a mentally retarded man begging in a restaurant! A couple of years ago i had some guy stop his motorbike and offer me money for 'company' - bloody hel_l! He nearly got a black eye.

this last time I was rescued by a nice shop owner who threatened to beat up the beggar for me - but the poor bloke was clearly not all there...A firm no shouted at him was enough to make him go away! I certainly didnt need all that hassle at the embassy on top of the swf in a muslim capital rubbish! I think i will be avoiding this embassy and location for future visa help  Ladies be warned

How strange! I have used KB for 2 years now to renew my visa. Unmarried, female, travelling alone (even one 10 hour trip on an overnight bus) and I have had nothing but positive results when I have gone there. Oh well, I suppose that my age and loss of looks is finally working for me...

I know that there are also days when embassy/consulate staff simply wake up on the wrong side of the bed and then we are all on the receiving end.

Hope it goes well for you in the future wherever you go to renew though.

  6. Insurance companies used to ask, do you have hiv?, and have you been tested for hiv? ( do they still ask those questions?)My view is this, once you say you have been tested for hiv, that must surely make the insurance company think, Why has this guy/girl been tested? they must think that they may have hiv.

I am not saying the company that asks you to have the test, will think that, but some other company that you may choose to go to, to obtain cover, may ask the questions and not ask for the test, so could this prejudice you?

Just my thoughts on the matter

In one of the countries where I worked, an HIV test wascompulsory - even after returning from a holiday. In the two and a half years I was there, I had to have a test every 6 months, literally as I got off the plane! So if an insurance company asks, I tell them that I needed to be tested as it was a requirement to work in that country. I do not think there would be prejudice involved. There can be many reasons why people are tested; haemophilia, working in healthcare and coming across blood products, accidents, If insurance companies are going to be worried that you have been tested before and then prejudice you, that is small minded thinking and, as rightly said above, it is a business and this small-minded thinking would lose them a lot of potential business!

  7. I am in the Sai Yuean area and had a close call. Came back early enough to find someone outside my house, giving me excuses about the house next door being for rent (which it was). When I entered and realised that the window had been opened and the cables to my laptop unplugged (but not taken), I walked outside with laptop in hand, faced him, then looked carefully at his motorbike. He understood me completely and left straight away. Very few words were exchanged. Not been touched since!

  8. Hi, Give Nan a call at Kuson Tours 081 892 0408. She speaks very good English and I have known her for 10 years and have rented bikes and cars from her. Her business is located inside the entrance to the Evason Resort & Spa - last business on the right just before the resort security gates. Tell her the woman who feeds the dogs at Rawai Temple sent you (sorry, won't put my name online)

  9. I have TOT Internet as well and live in the SaiYuean area. There are times throughout the day when the connection simply stops and you cannot connect at all, sometimes for 30 mins. or up to a couple of hours. But I would suggest speaking to them as your connection seems a lot worse than mine. When the connection is cut off for longer than 3 hours, I visit TOT personally and they seem to get on with it. But then, I did have to pay for over 500 m of cable!

  10. Since I had my identity stolen a few years back, I decided that opening any personal and company bank accounts in Thailand would mean a little more effort on my part (having to go to the bank directly for all transactions) but this, I believe, has saved me a lot of potential trouble. If a man can remove funds from an account by simply having the same name and accounts can be hacked into online, then it is worthwhile doing it in this way.

These two are definitely pawns in a much larger organisation - let's just hope that the authorities can get to the root of this.
