  1. Backwoods, thanks for the heads up on Bass Pro but as pangit says their shipping rates are horrible - 45% of shipment cost or $40 minimum.

Lures are not on myus restricted list but Amazon wouldn't ship here so is it safe to assume myus will ship? Guess I'll find out as signed up with them.

    Cheers lads

Ask them but I think you will find it is OK. Amazon would not ship them for other non- legal reasons probably because they are selling on behalf of a third party and they do not want the liability of fraudulent orders or losses. One further thought ... Will you have to pay Thai duty?

  2. I talked to the Bass Pro shop customer service and was told as long as it isn't on restricted list they will ship to thailand!

You are correct about Bass Pro. The only negative about them is that they calculate the shipping cost at 45% of the value of the order which amounts to a lot on a reasonable sized order. MyUs shipping was 70% less than what Bass Pro quoted.

  3. Here is your solution

Set up an account with myus.com for 10USD. Have your lures delivered to your account address in US and they send them onto you. I have just used them to have some of my favorite Columbia fishing shirts delivered to me as they too will not ship out of US. Took less than 36 hours to get here by DHL once delivered to myus. Shipping costs a lot less than you would pay to Amazon.

  4. The method UK carp tactic and will definitely catch except possibly specimen size fish. Only thing you will have to watch is that you don't get breamed or tenched out depending on the water you fish. Also the Thai method feeder used at BSR with two swivels at each end would not be regarded as fish-safe on most waters. You would need to use one which will run along the line above the swivel. Barbless hooks too though they will cost three times as much as the excellent Gamakatsu Iseama from Thailand! And of course unless you lower your tackle you will almost certainly be disappointed. A European carp fights less than half that of a Siamese carp in my opinion. Funnily enough, I will be fishing in the UK this summer for thevfirst time since I as a teenager but will not fish for carp to avoid the disappointment. Good luck.

  5. For a rod try pro-kik. He has a web site in Thai and the bass pro shop about 50 m up soi 42 from bung San ran. His custom rods are very good but he also sells some lower quality too. I got my snakehead rods built by him. Worth phoning before you go as shop is not always open.

  6. Agreed, you need an experienced team and good tackle for these monsters. I understand that the Bangpakong River, in Chachoengsao is also home to the Freshwater Giant Stingray

I agree that this is probably the one species where you definitely need a guide though the trips are not cheap. I have been recommended http://www.fishsiam.com/ by a number of different anglers. The guide "Boy" is very good so I hear.

  7. I have been fishing fairly regularly at Dream Lake for a number of years now and can recommend it.

The lake is quite small but deep and is very peaceful and surrounded by mature trees. Small but well fitted cabins are positioned over the water and there are no restrictions on when you can fish. The lake is stocked with a wide range of species and must have the largest Aligator Gars in Thailand with some well over 30kgs. It also has a good head of siamese carp over 20kg. Lure fishing is allowed. That said you cannot call Dream Lake an easy lake so don't expect the fish crawling up your lines like at Bung San Run. I think tackle (rods and baitrunner 4500s) are included in the price.

Food is excellent there and the owner very helpful. They also organise snakehead fishing trips to nearby reservoirs which are worthwhile at certain times of the year.

    Good Luck

  8. RobLok I have read your previous posts and you seem to make a habit out of insinuating that others are lying if they disagree with your comments. What things "could be true of course" - the captures by myself and others? The prices? By the fact that you are repeating what you have said on this thread several times already, it seems that you have a bit of an axe to grind.

I didn't realise I needed any special qualifications to post on here. Yes, it is my first post but I have been following this fishing forum on here, admiring some of the carp captures for over a year. I have fished extensively at many of the fishing parks and reservoirs in Thailand and having just fished at the place for longer than you did, I do feel fully qualified to comment. I have merely stated my experiences there. The fact that I enjoyed fishing there and you didn't shouldn't upset you.

And by the way, I am not connected to the lake in any way.

  9. Just got back from 3 days fishing for carp at Palm Tree Lagoon.

Fishing was action packed but I didn't manage to hook my big Siamese Carp. Had over 60 rohu, mud carp, a Julians Carp and a new PB Catla carp around 20kg. Several rohu and Mud carp were new Pbs too so overall I was quite happy and gives me a good excuse to go back :D.

Whilst I was there another bloke fishing on his own nearby, caught several Catla carp and 2 large Chow Praya catfish on lum, 2 nice redtails and another huge Chow Praya (at over 60kg the biggest I have ever seen) on worm. Benny, the Thai boss, fished for few hours down the other end and caught a chow praya and 2 siamese carp, the biggest around 40kg! She is clearly a good angler in her own right and I found her to be very helpful. She was clearly concerned that I had not caught my target fish and went out of her way to provide different consistencies of method mix (at no extra cost) for me to try.

Interestingly, nearly all of the fish came during the middle of the day.

For anyone fishing there for more than a day, the Western Grand Hotel is good value at 850B. I used my own gear but the equipment available was top end Shimano Stella and Finns. For info, I was charged exactly what I was told when I booked.
