  1. My stepdaughter 16 and friend were hit on on their Yamaha Mio on the way to the store in Khon Khaen Sunday afternoon. She hasn't moved or very little signs so far. She was moved to a private hospital from Government and had brain surgery for blood clot. Like to find the criminal ASAP. In the states at present wife left yesterday. I'll be there the 1st. The lousy bas---- has no balls.

  2. Hi there ice or newbie, Man your're in luck cause this is one of my fav . Go to Nong Khai for a re-stamp and eat on the river yum and take home a box to cook of get these Nam Meung or go to Vienchin ya know in Lao and get the best ....roll your own and cold beer. O well rice wrapper factory on the river up there fresh.

  3. Most people in the states see LOS as the land of whores, political instabilty, beautiful beaches and a haven for pedos. It's too bad. :)

What is the reference you are citing for "most people"?

I'm just making a wild'a guess but it would be that "most people" in the states don't even know where Thailand is... But this is to me just another example of assuming that this perspective is widespread without any evidence.

I work in a very creative industry that runs the whole gamut of social backgrounds. Yeah, I have had people think it was Taiwan 555.

I live here in the State of Texas married to a really nice woman for 6 years and people ask her "Where are you from", thePhillipines, Mexico? She answers, "Thailand "and they say Oh!... Taiwan..No, Thailand... Is that in Japan? Seems like international news is only read by those who have some involvement or need to know like family or relatives living there. Ya know what I mean? I don't think that people are really concerned what happens in other parts of the world until it affects them or is something really bad . They know about the Sanami but how many Thai's do you talk to have kept up with the NBA playoffs. No basketball, no hockey, no baseball teams so by the same token why should they be involved with the sport. So what I'am trying to say if doesn't concern ya who cares.

  4. There is no pizza in Thailand. It's all <deleted>.

I dunno, once you've been here a while The Pizza Company starts to taste quite good :o

One needs first of all a real brick oven to make it in and the wheat four ,fresh ingredients like olives well where are they? ,home made pepperoni important also, mushrooms OK,Salty fish OK, don't give me any of that mayo pizza either, tomatoes can be procured,Onions, garlic OK, Fresh cheeses ???????? Been there dun that. NY,Chicago good Italian pizza made in USA SAP,SAP

  5. You know if I don't have those red chillis in my Thai food I don't like either :o , but it took some time to adjust to it. They go in our mexican food. The funny thing i my wife can not eat hot sauce from America says it's to hot :D It really is what your used to or take the time to develop a taste for.
My best friend from Thailand whom I've worked with in America and shared many Thai home cooked meals together got me hooked on the chilie's in the food and mints, curries etc. even though I was used to eating Mexican foods cause I do live in Texas. I brought the Haberneros and Jalapenos

over here to grow as well as some of those Insainety Sauces from the cauldrons of Satan with the Siberian Gensing. Yes, yourn wife is right about hot and I proved it to my B-in Law also...that stuff will put a 250 lb. Marine on his knees in the hog nam HaHA! boy was that some chilie Whew!!!!. The chilies are good and we grow alot of them and don't nuke you as bad as others ya know they have flavor and not that afterburner effect. My wife just cooks some mixed meals cause she knows that I don't wan't rice at every sitting so I got some potatoes with some cabbage and onions and boiled spareribs and I can make some cornbread with that and bake a cherry cheese cake and my neighbors will share. Spice it up if you like!!!

  6. The death sentence is always inappropriate, it is uncivilized! It does not solve anything and this type of rather primitive ultimate revenge is not the proper way to go! This goes for any crime including child abusers, drug traffickers, murderers, corrupt politicians etc. I am happy that one of the conditions to become a member country of the European Common Market is the total abolishment of the death penalty.

Imagine what it really is. It is some people in power - physical - tie someone up and then kill him in various ways (humans are excellent in thinking up ideas for this bizarre ritual). How humiliating for the executors. They don’t even have to fight to get the result they want except with their conscience which they probably don't have . . .

    agreed state legalised murder

Well if you kill someone in Thailand you don't necessarily get the death sentence...This is a fact Jack!!!!!!! My brother-in-law killed his wife ( premeditated) but with a quarrell two years ago and is under a 7 year supended sentence with reduced time taken off with good behavior on the King's birthday and Mother's Day..How about these apples HUH??????bro!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Well Tom The best fried chicken I'd ever had was in S.Carolina and they used a pressure steam container filled with with peanut oil which won't break down under the high heats and can be use several times without turning rancid. Sap Bah

According to the folks at WAPF, coconut oil is the best oil for cooking

I would say there's controversy with that statement to say the least.

    http://www.drweil.com/u/QA/QA316479/

Seems like the only healthy choice the experts can agree on is the extra virgin olive oil, but as bangkokian suggested, not the best cooking oil.

or just don't eat much. There's even fats in uncooked veggies.

  8. The old standard found just about antwhere is sodium hypochlorite or bleach don't use the one you see with caustic hydrocloric acid and make sure you have some baking soda handy to neutralize as a tooth cleaner also(soda that is) also for bee stings etc...
Vinegar and computer cleaners. Thanks, I'll try those.

ps: forget the elbow grease, it does not work on white counters.

  9. Well unless one has the same feeling one can only speculate! I myself turned to friends and not necessarily ones I'd know for a long time. Pray for help and work..I was told don't sweat the petty things but pet the swetty things. Stay busy and occupy your time remember that man is smarter than woman because he has two heads .... but don't think with the wrong one. One has to have good mental control and read and learn no matter how old one is he has to breathe in because I believe this is the only thing that one can't do without therefore nothing really else matters.

  10. Thanks I'll give that a try, but I would like to find one close to Udon, sorry in my brillance left that out.

    Ray.

Just looking at the thread. You had this posted on the Issan Forum and I knew exactly where you were comin from. Do you like enchilatas, tamales, pico de gallo, flautas etc. Well your in luck when I get back to Thailand my friend here in Texas would have taught me how to open a restaurant in the Ban Thaen Area. The only problem is getting the masa harina and mataeha. Can make from scratch however. Chok Dee with the restaurante!!!

  11. This is actually good news. It's long overdue if it hasn't been announced before here.

It drives home (no motorcyci pun here :o) the point that every little bit helps. We all have a responsibility so save energy, even if we can afford personally to waste it.

Let's face it, if we continue to waste energy by not taking personal responsibility, we will personally be affected by the results, which could range from energy shortages to environmental problems.

At the same time, many lights here in Thailand are flourescent. Isn't usually better to leave a flourescent light on for an hour (or some period of time) than to turn it off and then on again? This advice is best for those who think about leaving lights on at the end of the day, etc.

Well the way I think about it is that's everything has it pros and cons. First of all my wife leaves the light on in the carport for security but I wake up during the middle of the night and turn it off so I can take a glimpse of the stars. However, in a village there are so many street lights that one can't see the stars. I live in the country back in Texas and even today there are entirely too many unnecessary lights burning. I look out back of my house and across the valleys and see far too many lights. Use a flashlight or a candle by all means with all these lights it may as well be Christmas. Cut them off is what I say.... sweat a little or take more showers and use more powder. Amen and Pax vobiscum!!!

  12. In a pudding basin, covered with a 'pudding' cloth, in a saucepan 1/3 full of water, topped up as and when necessary, and covered with a well fitting lid.

Tends to take longer, but experience, through trial and error, you will get the desired result! :D

Steamars are available through most oriental food outlets.

    Excellent... Many thanks :o

    totster :D

Tom, You stole the words right out out of my mouth. Here in the upper Korat Plateau we call this Khowneeo and with the purple glutenous rice it is called Khowneeo Dum sp?? Saep Baw!!!

  13. Looks like we're finally around to an old topic. Well here we go with my little tid bit of Drilling for Water. Last year during the month of April we hired a driller and crew 3 people from around Roiet..they were in the Ban Thaen Chaiyaphum area . They came to the proposed site and spudded down with a protective 4 inch pipe approximately1-2 joints then drilled out to TD~125 feet . Checked the cuttings and looked good ..We were there good drinkabe water. They set two 1 inch strands with ballvalves. For 14000 bath and three days work they furnished a half horsepower surface pump and set the pipe while we set the electric poles and power supply. We now have adequate water through the dry season but don't have a holding tank as of yet and need pressure tank setup for sprinkler or drip system to the orchard. Was also thinking about a wind mill (pat loam) cause I have one here in Texas but haven't met anyone whom I can pin point into making them. Just some x students from Chaing Mai.

  14. Pla Som,Larb,Curries(green, red, yellow) Matsumans,Goi,Noodles (large or small),Lao Spagetti,Meat is usually tough unless young tenderloin marinated then dried and fried with sticky rice..yummy. Desserts are nice with khoneeo and mango steamed Khow Tom..Soups are great!!How about Blood..No problem!!!!!!!!Sap Baw

  15. What makes my mouth water is the sour, salty, spicy Lao Spagetti that my friend Daneng's mother makes for me at her little stall in front of her furniture store here in Ban Thaen. Truely a treat but not for the new comer "Chok Lek" they call it. One may eat the "Goi" or gall bladder in the Pukieo area and drink some really cold beer. Served in little earthenware cookers . A real Issan "Bitter as gall treat." Larb made from the Boa Constrictor was a pretty good treat ..my good friend here in the village use to have a Thai restaurant in Grandbury,Texas and is retired in the village here and is always looking for a new menu. Eating Matsuman,Larb,Goi,Papaya Salads are the common staples . Some mornings I prepare some carrot cakes and cinnimon rolls. Some neighbors add to the breakfasts with ther various insects MengDa ya know the long one....not bad , crickets I see plenty of in the U.S. but don't care for, can eat just about anything that won't eat me first. We had last fall plent of sticky rice and BBQ chicken Ki Yaang and what is especially nice is the big 55 gallon smoker used to cook it in and a meat grinder for the pla som small river fish ground up with the sticky rice and then fried. Turtle,Frogs,Kiaat, Pork,Fish, Khung,Dog Ribs from Nakon Sakon, well that's another story. Vietnamese,Lao,Musalim food like the Roti in the Chang Mai Area Roti Matsaman Sap!!!!Khow Soi spell? One thing especially interesting is the Paduk Foo the fluffy catfish SAP SAP SAP!!!!!!!The Southern food are spicier and they have excellent Sapparot with their salads Tom Som cause we eat every day when traveling and the sen len and sen yai and sen bu mee soups fast foods. Well thats it for now ...Bon Appetite!!!!!!!!!

  16. with 54 percent meeting in entertainment venues where the women are employed.

    That's a new one on me^^

Awhile 20 percent meet by coincidence

    That's even a newer one!! ^^

Well here's my story and I'am stickin to it!! Marriage is a business first you are a salesman selling yourself to someone , but have to make a friend according to Dale Carnagie. You get the check if persistance wins over the resistance. When a Thai women meets a guavian through a potential arrange like I did it was a mutual interest thing she liked the idea of having the type of person come into her life whom she could take care of and also help herself as well. As it was explained to me if you are already older than the female it is better to have a younger women to help you in life..You think an old woman can do the lifting for you if bed ridden???????? Well it's working with me so far 58/34 and and we have a very good understanding of each other's spaces. I stay in the U.S.A. now and work then will come to the village in a few months. There seems to be more people coming with similar interests that is to love and have some do for you and take care but .....Where have all the good hearts gone? They aren't found in a bar but have to be found through other good hearts!!

Hey! Lao, I know where you are comin from. In public in Thailand or wherever you are visiting to be a gentleman has many rewards. You can get catch more flies with sugar than vinegar.

  17. It's a tough culture.  I'm not a bar girl or that sort of stuffs but I don't like the way Thai people look at me when I am with my Farang husband. It's sad. And this is the big thing I will consider going back to Thailand or not. You, Farang guys, please carry yourself well when you are out walking with your wife. It will make a little different on how people look and how your wife will feel. :o

I keep reading these posts and other things pop into my brain like "Self Image". Thai people do like to carry themselves in fashion maybe not new clothes but clean and ironed especially my wife and daughter every morning get up and sweep and mop and cook and bathe and iron and eat and go to school and go to the farm and work and come home and go to the talat and cook and study and eat and watch the news and sleep and then do it again the next day. They are clean yes squeaky clean and smelly good and are groomed. I don't know too many guavians that have that this kind of personal hygene. There are some that are adapting to the western way of life ...eat fast food get fat don't excercise etc.etc. spend money recklessy gambling and drinking and carry themselves with low esteem. Yes two houses two families and more than two ways of life. I am a grandfather with three sons and love them all and have new wife here in Thailand for two years and love my other family as well ...born a southern gentleman with reguards to the female and respect through parental discipline .. People see the difference in a farange over my visits and what discipline will make and others will want to understand..Ya Know what I mean?

  19. Hi

A Thai friend of mine, who is from NE Thailand (Isaan) and lives in the UK has mentioned she can get quite a bit of land in Isaan, for a very good price - approx 72 acres for around 3M Baht.  I havent seen this land and know very little about it.  The idea is that she will farm on it and may do some other innovative things.  I'm just looking for a peaceful place where I can do some of the things I like, help my friend and hopefuily take a percentage of the earnings from the land.

I'd appreciate any comments you have on the following :

    * Is this a reasonable price ?

    * I've come across somewhere (I think SunBelt or Indo Siam) who state that they can organise some loan where I provide money to a Thai person to buy the land, but I remain i control of the land.  Is this so ?  Does anyone have details on this and does anyone have experience of this ?

    * Is the loan method better then having a Thai comapny own the land ?  I know that by not having a company there will be less obligations on my behalf.

Do you have any other comments on this ?  Thanks in advance for your feed back...

Sorry this should be in real estate etc...

Just bought around 7 rai /300000 loaded with kuay, pla, lomyai adjoining other property and it has adequate water irrigation in the Chayaiphum area actually Ban Morn, Ban Thaen near Pu Sappo. This is the most important thing when farming. Remember that man is smarter than woman that's why he has two heads.
