  1. "A spokesperson for the Immigration Department was unable to be contacted yesterday, but it is understood they are considering an appeal against the ruling."

More crap from The Nation. If a spokesperson was unavailable for comment how do they know that an appeal is being considered? If they know it as fact, they should state so. Just more fluff from The Nation.

Similar to most people already replying to this thread I am in no way surprised that a legal migrant worker was treated in this manner and that the employer is kicking back in a beer bar somewhere laughing at how he has gotten out of having to pay for the injuries this person sustained.

And if this comment is accurate: "Somchai said yesterday's ruling was rare: "Chalee's case is the first time ever that a judge has relied on the Thai Constitution to order government officials to compensate a victim of unlawful detention." it is a very sad indictment on Thailand, Thais and the Thai legal system and I wish the Cambodians all the very best in relocating their capital to Bangkok.

As for Bakseedaa and the, "if you don't like it, go home" comment. Unless you are a Thai national it's not your place to make statements such as this.

If you are a Thai national then you should be embarrassed and hang your head in shame at the way your country treats non-Thais, but wait, that would require some level of humility and compassion and recognizing the fact that people are people irrespective of where they were born, something that contradicts with the normal Thai level of arrogance and hardheartedness.

  2. It's true. We've done nothing wrong and we're getting the boot.

We're house trained, friendly, clean and like people. Hell, we even eat Bt20 Big C animal food - though we like some fresh or cooked chicken or fish every now and then - and we're pretty good at killing cockroaches too.

The person who's been looking after us since out mother abandoned us on the balcony of his apartment says we have to go cause four of us make a one bedroom apartment too crowded. And of course mums been knocked up again so she's not much help.

If you're kind, friendly and need some company, we'd really appreciate hearing from you.

That's me, the cute gray one in the photo. In case you can't tell, I'm a boy. Then there's my tabby brother, and my two sisters. We're all about 7months old.

We really don't want to go a live on the street as there's some big dogs around here and they really don't like us much, except for lunch or dinner. Getting sent off to Tony's animal shelter doesn't look that appealing either as there won't be anyone there to pat us and I suspect many of the other cats there have fleas - which we don't have.

Send our carer a DM and he'll be happy to help us relocate. We'd prefer to go as a group, but guess that will not be possible. Perhaps as a pair though?

  3. Just stumbled across this:

Manila police accused of tourist scam

Five Philippine policemen who forced a German tourist to buy them laptop computers by threatening him with false drug and terrorism charges are facing dismissal.

The incident, which took place in Manila's financial district of Makati, comes after the city put “tourist police” on the streets with the promise that they were there to assist visitors.

AAP reported the five policemen were alleged to have approached the German tourist at a shopping mall on January 29 and initially accused him of buying counterfeit goods.

When he denied this, they accused him of illegal drug possession, said the local police chief.

The rest is at Manila police accused of tourist scam

It hasn't got anythingto do with Pattaya except that I met someone during the bed races who said a similar thing had happened to him just the week before, but never got to finish the conversation with him.

Just posting it in here on the off chance the person I spoke to is reading this forum.

  4. Sorry,

but i take that as an absolute insult to me AND all the others in thailand that keep their visa`s up to date and often loss intrest on money we have to bring in and show in our thai bank accounts for visa`s.......SHAME ON YOU SIR

Agree with this. You deserve to be put behind bars fr a lengthy period of time, deported and blacklisted forever. No excuses, no mitigation.

  5. Looks to be all spam/robots from what I see . . . I would guess very little 'real' traffic.

Agree. And some of those supposed "inbound links" come from bad territory. One bot attracting another bot.

What's the Alexa ranking and PR at?

Is the site actually indexed ?

With so many bad territory "links" any legitimate use you put the site to might result in having to seek a review by the search engines.

Without GA you can't do much analysis but think the site is probably worth what you paid for it and not much more.

  6. Panich Vikitsreth had to shave off his hair, but is not infested by lice as initially reported - the reason then being?

Panich Vikitsreth said he had no intention of trespassing into Cambodian soil - YouTube VDO doesn't lie, ask Jeff Savage

They can go outside [the embassy compound] but they insist on staying in. They have even asked others to do their grocery shopping - Nice one. A whole embassy to act as fetchers and carriers while the accused sit around the pool no doubt updating their Facebook pages.

We coordinated for food to be sent to them from outside, which is not allowed normally - do the same for the other Thais in Prey Sar prison?

And the reason we know when a Thai is lying is...

  7. Wow, Thai complaining about working on a farm with low pay or no pay. I can see the no pay being a crime, but low pay that's standard for any migrant laborer in any country.

I never once seen Hmong or Vietnamese complain about low wages as they picked strawberries in California fields.

Next thing you know, Juan Valdez will be bitching about him getting low pay and extreme working conditions to pick each individual coffee bean for you and I to savior.

Mexican labors don't sue for low wages for picking grapes for your wine or Oranges, apples, vegetables, etc.

Just tell Thai. If you don't like it there, then point to the ocean and say, Thailand is that way, enjoy your swim.

First READ the OP again, than THINK, and after you have managed those two, come back here and we will see if you have learned anything.

Where are you from? Hick o Ville?

    Nah, he's just a douche-bag

Same standard of ex-pat who gets on this forum to rejoice at the army shooting people for protesting over double standards, freedom, human rights, and equality no doubt.

Another fine export. Probably wears plaid knee-length shorts as well

  8. Do Elite have a branch in Bangkok with same good service.

In Bangkok try Dr. Jaruwan @ Pratunam Dental Clinic on Ratchatawee Rd just under the pedestrian crossover. R/C totally painless and about Bt5,000. Ceramic Crowns Bt4,500

Excellent work. standard pricing for Thai or foreigner.

    Tel: 02.245-5599

  9. Most people don't realize that roasting coffee beans at home is only slightly more difficult than cooking rice in a pot. In fact, it's so easy that most of you would probably wonder why you have been wasting money on expensive coffee from the stores.

Well, stupid me for investing my time and money in sourcing green beans of the highest quality, buying a proper roaster with temperature profiling, and learning how to roast properly over a number of months. All I needed was a wok and some local beans!

The method I found works best at home is to cook the beans in a wok. Turn on the flame. Dump your beans in the wok and continually turn the beans with a long wooden or metal spoon. Slowly they will change colors. Continue turning the beans until they are the color you like. If you reach a point where the beans are dark brown to black, you will probably notice a popping sound as well as some smoke. This is normal. When the beans are the right color, (either a light brown or black) turn off the fire. There is also a lot of chaff (bean skin) produced from this process. You can remove that after the beans have cooled. This process takes about 40 to 50 minutes.

And we dont even need a second crack. Great, what a time saving!

If about 4 hours have passed since you took your beans off the fire, then they are ready to grind and brew your coffee.

Keep all that lovely carbon dioxide in the beans, it adds complexity. B)

Of course you would still have to package and market your beans, but there is an interesting business opportunity here. As well as a way to get the coffee made to your specs. I hope this helps some people in Chiang Mai get the coffee they love at prices they enjoy.

I hope all the legitimate coffee producers of Chiangmai appreciate that their investment is worthless. If only this post was made years ago.

    Is there a wine equivalent?

I reckon all you need is a few grapes, some yeast and a bath tub at home. From a tonne of grapes costing 20,000 baht, you could make....

    Well done Richard0135.

Nice description of how to roast coffee at home. We used to do it this way for a restaurant I owned in another (coffee producing) country where the beans for commercial use were roasted in 44 gallon drums that were rotated manually over wood fires.

What we found worked best was to lower the heat once the beans start to change color and, based on the advice of a Brazilian coffee roaster who worked as a consultant to the Coffee industry in the country concerned, closely monitor the crease in the bean. The outside should be chocolate brown and the crease should stay a shade of white.

Locals tend to roast beans until they are totally black (burnt), whereas the fruit should be kept to a shade of brown.

Green beans will keep for several months minimum as long as they are dry. Roasted beans and ground roasted beans should be kept in the refrigerator in a sealed container to preserve their flavor.

As far as lingnoi1977's reply goes – it's absolute crap and a total waste of Forum members time reading such a spiteful, sarcastic and juvenile post. Though I have to agree with the self assessment -- "Well, stupid me...". I'm so glad you recognized your short comings in the opening to your reply.

    Back in your box chocolate.

Totally out of line when someone posts something here to help other members. I'm sure your response compensates for other physiological short comings.

  10. I totally agree.

They should have brought the TSA out from the US and groped everyone heading down to Bali Hai, had snipers on the rooftops and blackhawks overhead with massive search lights and teams of special forces dudes ready to repel down into the throng.

A fleet of ambulances should have been on standby on the elevated road and every bar girl and freelancer in Walking Street equipped with bandages, gas masks and transfusion kits.

Sounds like one or two TV members managed to get themselves off their sofa for their annual out-and-about sojourn and I can understand how the site of all those people having fun caused your hearts to accelerate to such a frantic level.

It's alright boys, it's all over. No back to your Homeland Security news feeds and crime reports in Pattaya Daily No News and Pattaya 4 One.

Exactly how any cops do you think it would take to control a million Thais and drunken foreigners if something went bang?

And IMO the fireworks were cr@p. Five minutes and it was over - just like many of the drunken desperadoes who hang around Pattaya's bars thinking they still have the stamina and attractiveness to "treat" two girls at once to a night they'll forget as soon as the baht is spent.

Pattaya's fireworks should've stopped off at the pharmacy on the way to the display and picked up a few packs of Viagra

  11. Another PR spin story that the government told The Nation to publish.

"The government will push for the temporary release of some 104 red shirts"

"...the Department of Special Investigation will not oppose bail applications for those reds facing misdemeanour charges"

"... the judiciary will have the final say on whether to grant bail."

So the government is going to do what? Another PR puff piece that says nothing. The judiciary has always had the final say as to whether these people will be freed or not/ Oh but wait, does this mean that ridiculous bail levels might magically be dropped to more realistic levels?

That wouldn't mean there is interference from the executive branch of the government with the judicial branch would it? Wikileaks has already shown other interference so why should we be surprised at this.

All that this story says is that a lot of people facing minor charges have been detained in prison for more than six months with bail rates set at excessively high levels to prevent them from having the basic right of being presumed innocent until proven guilty. ABhi is going to ride along on his white charger and like the Lone Ranger pull it up on it's hind legs, throw a few platitudes in the air before galloping off again.

Meanwhile 767 days after hundreds of thousands of foreign tourists were left stranded and millions of baht in exports lost by the closure of five Thailand airports not a single PAD protester has been convicted or held in prison.

  12. Good grief, Thai News Alerts, are you serious......more like tedious news alerts. Some guy gets busted with a reefer....whooa ! Seems like you guys are making more of a hoohaa about this than the Thais are, and you'll probably be mumbling on about this long after the Thais have forgotten about it.......go find some real news.

Agree. Usual PDN/ Pattaya One? Thaivisa rubbish news. And Thaivisa charges to receive SMS alerts for crap like this?

  13. I used the HTC Hero when it first came out and found it a little slow. Then changed to HTC built Google Nexus One and found them great. I've been using two of them for the last five months (now selling one only because it's not needed).

The Hero was under speced by HTC with a slow processor and no flash. Samsung has repeated that with the Galaxy (no flash).

I looked at the Desire recently but it really is a down-speced Nexus One.

I still consider the Nexus One to be the best Android phone on the market at the moment. Voice quality is superb, OTA system updates, and fast.

After using Nokia for more than 20-years there's no way I would go back to Symbian OS and despite using a Mac since 1985 won't look at the iPhone

  14. Will throw in a free purr generator with each kitten.

For any other cat owners in Pattaya I've found since becoming the foster carer for these four that the night market near the Outlet Factory Center on Theprasit Rd. to be the best place for buying cat tray dirt. Bt80/5kg bag of Catty Cat and it actually does what it claims to: Clumps and deodorizers.

The guy who sells this has two stalls about half way along the back row of pet stalls with a walkway access to the motorbike paring area behind. Really helpful and friendly guy and at Bt80 a bag it's about half the price of what the supermarets sell the stuff for. He also has bags of unbranded dry cat and dog food.

  15. Thanks for the detailed reply which did not answer my question.

If you're not happy with the answer provided by NHJ get off your bum and go to Thai Customs and ask them yourself instead of asking on a public Forum. Then if it's wrong you can bitch and moan to them and not come back on the Forum and complain about what you were told here.

NHJs reply is one of the best and most concise posted on this Forum regarding importing. If the rates are so important go to the relevant department. Otherwise, don't sledge someone who posts a clear, concise and accurate (found through my experience also) reply.

  16. Neighborhood moggy brought me her cubs a month or so ago and now they're ready to find homes of their own.

Come complete with 1 head, 1 tail, 2 eyes and 4 feet (each)

2 Males - 1 tabby and 1 light grey (almost Persian looking)

2 females. 1 marmalade (ginger & black) and 1 ginger and grey

    Fun, playful, house-trained, affectionate, clean.

I'll pay 1/2 the cost of de-sexing for anyone who takes one or all and wants to have them de-sexed.

Special bonus: Take 1 or 2 for free and I'll throw the other 1 or 2 in for free!! :whistling:
