"Authorities mull measures to check invasive alien species"

I always thought an alien species was something from outer-space!  How times change!  It seems I've been living with them all the time!  E.T. Must be around somewhere!

Typical Thailand, though; anything outside is alien.  No wonder most Thai school students don't know where Europe is!

The word alien has been used ever since I can remember to describe illegal foreigners

thailand loves to blame foreigners for everything and i guess many other countries around the world do as well. in some ways it is being patriotic believing that ones own people are perfect and foreigners are not, which of course is a little misguided. samui locals might be better off getting upset about the massing of trash that will soon get into their ground water.

Of course they are going to blame a foreigner. IT WAS A FOREIGNER

Well done, BUT why do these stories get so much publicity and are pasted allover the local press??? I know many people in many countries, that do fantastic good deeds and never would go public or even like to go public. Here every taxi driver, who does not drive off with a forgotten bag, gets celebrated like a hero. Weird.....MS>

Funny isn't it. Thais do something wrong and people are all over them on TV with such negative posts. Now comes along a happier story and some absolute morons still find a way to turn it around to sound like a publicity stunt. I say well fella and I hope you get laished with whatever you need. To the negativity freaks I hope you get all you DESERVE

You are so very WRONG, many are reported as death by misadventure, and in WA they are often reported as  a police incident, or if by train, rail incident, in oder to reduce copycat deaths.

I believe I am correct. I have lost a few friends to suicide (???) and every occurence was not reported as an incident etc but as suicide. The copycat bit I find is a bit of a stretch.

It will be interesting to check back here sfter the trial and find out how much time these bouncers will have to do.

Do bouncers in Australia actually leave the property of the bar/club they are supposed to protect and chase down someone 100 meters away simply because of an argument or being called a name?

No wonder they are doing time.

Some of the bouncers I have seen couldn't spell METRES let alone run 100 of them

Why all this kicking in the head of someone already down?

Try watching western documentaries of security guards pacifying drunk party goers. Most of the action is verbal or in extreme cases a quick restraint.

These guys should be charged with attempted murder.  One well placed kick and the victim is dead.

Like one poster here said. "Thais fight to destroy"

I think you need to watch the news more. There are a few bouncers in Australia doing time for assault or worse. it's not just here.

it is common in australia to refer to suicides as accidents. it must make the perpetrator's families feel better. australians have a strange relationship with death. no one ever DIES in oz, they pass away, get taken prematurely, loose a battle with cancer, go on their last journey and so on. it took me minutes to understand that oz wife #2's mother had died after she told me ' mum is gone'.

What a crock of rubbish. I have seen so much rot. Suicide is suicide, yes even in Australia. The only thing Australians have a strange relationships with is idiocy. You seem to have a very good grasp on that.

RIP to the young man and condolences to the family.

  8. It's the kit gets me, but then I suppose one wouldn't want to get mistaken for a poor person, would one. All this gear for cycling, yet Thais'll happily go out on a motorbike wearing a T-shirt, shorts, and flip-flops.

No, the cycling Thais are usually in full lycra kit. For them it's the posing that's important.

Same as Aussie cyclists. Don't just single out Thais

  9. whats new, married with kids and screwing a druggie on the side, not happy enough with a well to do hubby, nice house, well financed, needed a bit of side action to keep her occupied while he was away working, nothing new at all for some thai women, they simply cant keep their legs closed, marriage means nothing but then many thai men are the same

And guess it follows that Western women and Western men are the pillars of chastity and would never even contemplate such a thing.

didnt say they didnt but it certainly seems to happen a lot more here and is bandied about with abandon, even her family knew she was doing it. Its one thing to have an affair but thais seem to take it to the next level.

I imagine there is evidence to back the more in Thailand statement. Or just more farang figures pulled out of the air?

  10. I went there about 8 years and I also could not understand why there were foreigners working there. Actually the farang ( Yanks Or Canadians I think) were the ones that told us that the tigers were not drugged but merely satisfied after a big feed and all they wanted to do was sleep. Crap. I swore I would never go back there. To see such a majestic animal chained and drugged made one not feel so joyous. These monks could learn something from a trip to Dreamworld in Queensland Australia and see how those tigers are treated. The way a magnificent creature is supposed to be treated.

  11. You need to get over it. Never heard it used for a farang who wouldn't pick up the bill. But i know it will come in useful now

"Cheap Charlie" is often a derogatory term used to characterize a "farang" who doesn't dish out money freely to Thais and cater to their sob stories of family hardship. A farang who doesn't like picking up the tab for everyone all the time is referred to as "Cheap Charlie" by Thais. A farang who merely meets the agreed price for sex without additional tip is called "Cheap Charlie" by Thai girls. The Thai newspaper should be clear about this being a derogatory expression and why.

  12. Perhaps unwise to play in the water at 04:30 !

This type of incident can and does occur anywhere in the world.

It happens anywhere in the world? Really? Yes incidents do happen all over the world it is true but not incidents the same as this, they don't happen all over the world. You must come from a very strange country if this is the norm. I would refer to consider it an isolated incident that was fueled by other things e.g. drink, drugs etc

It happens in Australia. You must come from an absolutely fantastic country if this sort of thing NEVER occurs there

  13. Crap, in all the years I have lived here the only problems I have ever had involved farang. Sure not everywhere is safe just as not everywhere in Australia is not safe. Read the papers, check the net. Thailand is not the only country with "baddies".

A mighty big statement that most, not all Thais are racist, religious zealots. I haven't even met MOST Thais so you must certainly get around. I think it's time for you to give Thailand a break and go back the little safe haven that you call home.

    Ta Tah

No matter if you like it or not, sadly, Thailand is not a safe place in general, if you can walk down a street in a popular tourist area with out getting robbed or killed, as in the case of the Australian lady who was stabbed in the heart for her handbag, just to mention one of hundreds of similar cases, then its not a safe place, for tourists.

When I lived in Thailand, I witnessed a young girl and her friends get gunned down, because the girl refused to have per-arranged marriage, my neighbor was stabbed in the neck by a bar girl because he wouldn't buy her a drink.

The only people smiling, where the perps.

In my experience most Thais a racist, religious zealots who are only interested in your money, not all but most.

Its not a safe place to visit and no one will ever guarantee your safety when in Thailand, the only thing that is nice in Thailand is the weather and the natural scenery
